In a local news app I used to use they would put stories about the royals
in the entertainment tab. That’s how I think of them now.

Re: [TV orNotTV] Statement: UK's TalkTV, GB News limited from using other feeds of coronation

2023-05-06 Thread PGage
I am at an age when I find myself awake a couple of times during the night.
On my way back from my first trip to the bathroom I remembered the
coronation and turned on the TV and caught the most official bits live
before drifting off to sleep.

We have not had a coronation if a British monarch in my lifetime, and they
used key elements that date back more than 1000 years, (when I woke up
later I saw the impressive “Three Cheers” by an aggregation of British
military said to the largest anywhere in more than 70 years) so, yes, this
is a newsworthy event. But it does not have to be a propaganda event, which
is what most of it feels like. I won’t say there are no positive
contributions of the British monarchy, but it is also an embodiment of
ideas like elitism, imperialism and colonialism which are inconsistent with
the values and moral commitments of many in the modern world. I would like
to se at least half the time spent covering the perpetuation of this
institution reflecting that.

Re: [TV orNotTV] Statement: UK's TalkTV, GB News limited from using other feeds of coronation

2023-05-05 Thread Mark Jeffries
Yeah, but Murdoch owns TalkTV (it's mostly a simulcast of his TalkRadio)
and GBNews, a part-owner of which is John Malone, which Olbermann keeps
telling us is paste-eater Chris Licht's ventriloquist through his
controlling interest of WBD, is trying to be (within the impartiality
guidelines of Ofcom) the Fox News of the UK. So I say F 'em up the A, even
if the monarchy is an outdated institution that needs to go.

Re: [TV orNotTV] Statement: UK's TalkTV, GB News limited from using other feeds of coronation

2023-05-05 Thread Kevin M.
I’m curious, do Sky or BBC or ITV televise the coronations or inaugurations
of other countries? Because I don’t see a lot (or any) newsworthiness for
Americans who denounced the crown back in the 1770s. I’m sure it’ll be
pretty and fancy and full of pomp (autocorrect kept changing that to pimp)
and circumstance, but that qualifies it to be on Bravo or maybe BBCA, but
not all the cable news channels and some of the networks. Luckily it starts
before I’m awake.

2023-05-05 Thread Adam Bowie
More recent accounts suggest that an agreement has been reached.

The BBC leads on this operation with Sky and ITV contributing, and from
what I can tell it's a multi-million production including the UK's largest
ever 4K outside broadcast. The fees that were being asked were in the six
figure region, according to reports. I guess the question is whether rival
broadcasters should be offered footage for free or not.

I suspect, but don't know for certain, that many international broadcasters
will be getting feeds via prior arrangements either with UK broadcasters
(e.g. CBS and ITV, NBC and Sky) or via agencies that have purchased rights
for their clients.
