What benefits would be got from whitelisting? I've developed a simple
app that all it does is send direct messages from one account to
another, after first setting the accounts to follow each other. It's a
web based app, not a desktop one. It does not use any searching etc,
in fact it only uses these functions:

https://api.twitter.com/oauth/request_token
https://api.twitter.com/oauth/access_token
https://api.twitter.com/1/friendships/create.xml
https://api.twitter.com/1/direct_messages/new.xml

Is whitelisting something I should worry about or not?

I requested whitelisting in REST API and I got the answer within a
week.

It was rejected though, so that's maybe why it was so quick!
