Next dilemma is how to get really time updates from Unidata into SQL. I
was thinking about adding a trigger to the Unidata file which execute a
SQL command to update the SQL database?

Very grateful for any advice on how anyone else has achieved really time

Has anyone experienced problems importing data from Unidata into SQL

Has anyone tried using Redback OLE DB?

Long shot but this happened to me once. The tar file must be untar'd from

Did you try "stopud -f"? That will force UD to stop even if it thinks users
still have Unidata sessions running.

If that doesn't work, sounds like you need to reboot the server.

Note that these suggestions are only recommended as a last resort, as you
run the risk of corrupting your data.

Good luck,

Trying to start udt from command line generates the following error:

Hello all.

I am running a UV command from a Unix prompt (HPUX) and am attempting to
capture the output in a file. For instance,

/u1/uv/bin/uv "MYCOMMAND" > /tmp/MYOUTPUT.txt

The output file contains what appears to be terminal control characters
in the beginning although my program merely PRINTs "TEST", for instance,

$ ls -la /tmp/MYOUTPUT.txt
-rw-rw-r--   1 ltcpdevsdsccs  12 Nov  3 13:31
/tmp/MYOUTPUT.txt
$ more /tmp/MYOUTPUT.txt
^[[?1l^[>TEST
MYOUTPUT.txt: END

Is there a way to disable this from happening? I tried deleting the
login paragraph but that did not stop the characters from appearing.

Thanks in advance for you help.

RE: [U2] [UV] ODBC connections [ad]

2006-11-01 Thread Angelo Collazo
Paul,

Here is a document on how to configure Easysoft for UniVerse. In fact, It
was first installed for UniVerse then UniData. "Accessing ODBC Databases
from IBM UniVerse/UniData"

http://www.easysoft.com/applications/ibm-universe-unidata/odbc.html

You Can do a search on their website.

Also, Here is a "Success story" on the U2UG website. See link and story
below:
Using the EasySoft ODBC-ODBC Bridge product, we are able to establish
two-way connectivity between our Universe and Oracle databases.
http://www.u2ug.org/index.php?module=pnForum&func=viewtopic&topic=127

Posted: 03.08.2004, 15:29
We have just successfully connected our Universe database with our Oracle
database using Easysoft's ODBC-ODBC Bridge.

To sum up what we have accomplished, so that we can add to your knowledge
base:

The requirement is to enable an ODBC connection between Universe and Oracle,
both of which run on Unix. Either database must be able to initiate a
transaction, i.e. Universe can connect to Oracle and Oracle can connect to
Universe.

We tried the Data Direct ODBC client for Unix to tie Universe to Oracle, but
it served only the Universe BCI call to Oracle. It did not satisfy the need
to connect to Universe from Oracle using Oracle's Heterogenous Gateway.

Since Universe does not have an ODBC client that runs on Unix, we have to
bounce the ODBC call from our Oracle database to an NT/2000 server in order
to access the Universe ODBC client.

EasySoft, in England, has a product they call an ODBC-ODBC Bridge. This is
composed of an OOB server, which in our case runs on an NT/2000 box, and an
OOB client, which can run from Windows, Unix or Linux. When an ODBC call is
issued from the database, the OOB client on the local server calls the OOB
server on the NT/2000 box, which then redirects the call to the ODBC client
running on the NT/2000 server, which then proceeds to connect to the target
database.

Using the EasySoft ODBC-ODBC Bridge product, we are able to establish
two-way connectivity between our Universe and Oracle databases.

Licensing for the Easysoft ODBC-ODBC Bridge is based on the server. You can
have as many clients as needed. They have a per server license plan, or you
can get a site license if you need to have 4 or more servers on the same
site. 8-)

Hope this helps.

Unfortunately Easysoft do not sell odbc drivers for Universe.
We have decided to use one of the Oracle databases on Windows as a

It seems to be the easiest way at this stage.

I think from reading the OP Paul needs a Linux ODBC client that can
speak to Universe on HPUX.

If IBM only provide a windows based odbc client for Universe then he
might have a problem here. A solution may be to use the JDBC driver
provided by IBM as Janet suggested but use a odbc-jdbc bridge so the
Oracle client can use ODBC. A quick google shows one from easysoft and
one from Sun as part of the java stack.

Plan B is to talk directly to the Universe jdbc driver of course but if
you are going to be writing java code then consensus on the list is
usually to use uniobjects directly.

Hello Paul,

You are going to have to contact Oracle and see if they have a Linux
client for ODBC. Once you have this you should be able to configure the
access to your Universe server. The setup process will be like the
process you performed for your Oracle on Windows.

With ODBC being a Windows middleware you may find the Linux client does
not exist. You may have to use JDBC.

RE: [U2] Remote (qfile) restrictions - (UV)

2006-10-23 Thread Angelo Collazo
John,

One way of accomplishing this is to: (this varies base on what flavor you
are running (UniVerse IDEAL/PICK/REALITY/PRIME...)

This example is UniVerse/Pick flavor

1- Copy the SET-FILE VOC entry to SET-FILEB
2- Write a program that will prompt you for the account name and file name,
**BETTER YET,**DON'T prompt
SENT = TRIM(@SENTENCE)
ANAME = FIELD(SENT," ",2)
FNAME = FIELD(SENT," ",3)
IF ANAME = "" OR FNAME = "" THEN
PRINT "Usage: SET-FILE account_name file_name"
   STOP
END
*This way, if your PRODUCTION app's is using the SET-FILE then your new
program handles it.

3- PERFORM the SET-FILEB with account name and file name ONLY if it passes
your EDIT (restricted area) or create an ARRAY and
write to the VOC file.
4- DELETE VOC SET-FILE
5- AE or ED VOC SET-FILE
6- 001 PA
7- 002 YOUR PROGRAM NAME
or
  CATALOG your new program
8-

PS. TEST and DEBUG..hope it helps. 2 1/2 cents please...

Cheers,

Angelo

On UniVerse version 9.6.1.6  HP-UX

We can create "q-pointers" to any directory path on the system such that
writes to a q-pointed file will write to the specified directory.
Is there any way to restrict that mechanism to prevent "accidental"
access.

Our Production account is mirrored from the Production box onto the
backup (DEV) box as a (disaster recovery) account.
As such we need to be able to restore /activate it at short notice.
BUT
We do not want any inadvertent updates to that account via these
q-pointers.

Ideally I would like UniVerse to tell me that I cannot create a
q-pointer to a 'restricted' area. I don't think it will do that.
I do not want to change the unix permissions because that could
interfere with the DR copying processes and would probably need to be
undone if we need to switch over.

Any ideas would be welcome.

Cheers

   Angelo,

   From within SBServer, you can CALL TU.SESSION.CLOSE("") from an exit
   verb which will close the session without a dialog.

   Or a script:

   Script Name: logout_script

   Trigger String: script_started

   Assign this script to your logout script in the setup menu. This

   exit menu and so you probably need to use both methods to always
   suppress the close/save dialog box.

RE: [U2] PORT.STATUS bug?

2006-10-04 Thread Angelo Collazo
Scott,

We run AIX 5.3 and UniData 6.1.17-64 and we have the same problem with
phantoms.

What we did is create a baby sitter that stops and starts our phantoms every
three hours.

In our case is not related to PORT.STATUS, just phantoms hanging. In our
case PORT.STATUS is based of the /ud/include/udtconfignfig and the variable
is TMP=/flo164/tmp/

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Hi all,

HPUX 11
UV10.1.8

Has anyone had any problems with PORT.STATUS causing phantom jobs to hang?
We have background jobs that, every once in a while, will hang. When
looking at the output from PORT.STATUS the last command is always some
simple EXECUTE. For example, the batch job EXECUTES a SH -C "ls
./dir/whatever*" and, seemingly, fails to return.

I did see the following in the PH record
":nanosleep: Interrupted system call"

How does PORT.STATUS work internally anywho?

Thanks,

Scott

[U2] SBClient Question - Apply Logout Script to SBCLIENT

2006-10-04 Thread Angelo Collazo
I was wondering if anyone has already done this and care to share the
results. I have been given the following task:

- Create script that will close out SBCLIENT session and
not prompt end-user to save changes to session

- * There is a slot in SBLCLIENT that allows custom scripts,
but we have not been able to provide the proper syntax
to get this to work

- - Problem on Terminal Server that keeps the session active
even though the end-user closed out the session from
Terminal Server

We have a file that has the customer number and invoice date indexed.

  When we execute at TCL "SELECT ORDERS WITH CUST.NO = '12345' AND WITH
INV.DATE = '12/14/05'" no items are selected.

  We are running Unidata 6.0.6.

  Is anyone aware of any issues ?

RE: [U2] Convert to date and Time

2006-08-29 Thread Angelo Collazo
Krish,

Why don't you just transfer the data to MS Excel already converted?
Example.
DT=OCONV(FIELD(DATE_Time_Qty,'*',1),'D4/')
TM1=FIELD(DATE_Time_Qty,'*',2)
TM=OCONV(FIELD(TM1,'.',1),'MT')

You can create a dict or eval item.

Hope it helps.

RE: [U2] Set udt priority on Unix (Solaris,Aix,HP)

2006-08-22 Thread Angelo Collazo
Here is how to INCREASE priority on AIX, Hope it helps. I know, it's kind of
backwards. Don't shoot the messenger.
AIX-RENICE;aix-nice
renice -n 5 -p 2076946  ;*by using a positive 5 = increase nice
;*priority number, which makes it slower(+ 5 =
;*slower)
renice -n -5 -p 2076946 ;*by using a negative 5 = decrease nice
;*priority number, which makes it faster(- 5 =
;*slower)

Cheers,

Angelo

I haven't done this, but I assume you can use nice for the particular udt
and change it's scheduling priority.

RE: [U2] Unidata/Oracle connection problem

2006-08-03 Thread Angelo Collazo
Sara,

Is your UniVerse a 32bit or 64bit dbms?

Cheers,

Angelo

We have been transferring data from UniVerse to Oracle and SQLServer for
many years now using the BCI. We also query those databases and bring data
to UniVerse also using BCI.

We use Openlink software  http://www.openlinksw.com/
   as the ODBC Manager which is linked into
UniVerse. Works very well. Our users expect real-time replication of data
as they create it in UniVerse and expect to be able to use in immediately in
Oracle. Normally this expectation is satisfied.

   Yes

   Actually we identified another problem. That being the fact that the

   drivers. If anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated.

Subject: [U2] OT: Email Attachment Universe Linux

Hey guys,

We have a program that distributes information via various methods. One
of which is to email the file as a PDF. So, one of our users was on AOL
and then switched to Cox. They read their email via the cox webmail
site on a browser. The problem is that the attachment is coming over as
part of the message now and not as an attachment. However, if they use
outlook as the email client, then the file is presented as an
attachment. So, webmail client is doing something different than
outlook. If I send an attachment to the person using outlook on my PC,
then the attachment comes thru as an attachment on the webmail client.

So, I think the problem is the way I am sending the email / attachment.
I am using the following;

uuencode MYFILE.PDF MYFILE.PDF | mail -s MYFILE.PDF -n
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

This is being done on a Linux machine and we are shelling out of
Universe to issue the command. Any suggestions on how to make it better
?

Thanks

Anthony

Rich,

One important issue to know is to determine if you need a 64 or 32 bit UNIX
driver. Also what is your .udlibs soft link look like? Hope this helps.

RE: [U2] Unidata 6 into SQL 2005

2006-06-21 Thread Angelo Collazo
Graham,

If you are running your U2 database under Windows, You can download the
CLIENT(s) and use the native U2 ODBC drivers. See this link:
http://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/download/search.jsp?go=y&rs=u2trials&S_
TACT=105AGX11&S_CMP=DNLD

If your are running under UNIX you to purchase one. Two I know of.

1- http://www.easysoft.com/
2- http://www.datadirect.com/index.ssp
3- Open source (http://www.mysql.com/) and search for ODBC. Two versions
UNIX(AIX/HP/Others) and Linux unixODBC)

May the force be with you.

Redback and .Net work perfectly together. I've used it in a variety of
applications using both C# and VB.Net. Full power of .Net is available
as
Redback simply makes U2 available. You can build a Data Access Layer
where
U2 looks like any other database to .Net.

If you are from the .Net/SQL world, you can access your Universe data
via
ADO same as other databases. If you are not an ADO guru, Redback
provides
its' own more U2 friendly commands to also access the Universe data and
programs.

You have total freedom in deciding how much or how little of your
business
logic to be in U2 or .Net.

Unlike like some of the other offerings, Redback is not a 'do something
on
the web for the U2 programmer' type of application. It is a true
enabler
to allow you to use U2 with the web and do whatever you can do in your
web
technology of choice.

Mike.

RE: [U2] ODBC question

2006-06-12 Thread Angelo Collazo
After researching the data extraction from an SQL database via UniData/BCI
running on AIX I have realized that a third party ODBC driver is needed for
UNIX to behave like a client. An install document called "How to set up the
Easysoft ODBC-ODBC Bridge with UniData was sent to me by one of our fellow

searching):

1- Easysoft USD 1399.00 for a single license
2- OpenAccessSoftware   USD  $995.00for a single cpu

Question:
a- Anyone using another lower cost vendor's ODBC driver and can share
the
cost? And if so, are you happy with it.

Good question. Yes we have licenses for both Unidata and ODBC, however, our

just about everything else). I haven't tried using ODBC since then. It could
be that the ODBC license wasn't re-installed correctly.

The ODBC screen pops up with most of the parameters filled in, except my

All,

Is there a simple way of getting the size of a file opened sequentially

equivalent to using the Status statement on UniVerse?

Must be OS neutral - no shelling out to "ls" or "DIR" I'm afraid.

Hello fellow groupies,

After downloading the document called "Accessing SQL Data through BCI", the
example is from U2 under Windows. It talks about U2 under UNIX but it
requires additional steps on how setup up ODBC because it is not native to
UNIX. I have found a .pdf file on the IBM website called Basic SQL client
Interface Guide for UniVerse. This one shows how from UNIX and UniVerse but
I need UNIX and Unidata.

My Enviroment on UniData versus UniVerse.

1- I 'm trying to follow the UNIX/UniVerse part of it and I will translate
all uv(uvhome vs udhome, uvlibs vs udlibs, ext...) I wanted to now the
following:
a- Needs UniRpc and I have UniRpc running in AIX/UniData.
root:/:# psgrep rpc

Search for "rpc"...
 UID PIDPPID   CSTIMETTY  TIME CMD
  daemon   98438   86376   0   Apr 22  -  0:00 /usr/sbin/rpc.statd
root 1622126   1   0   Jun 04  -  0:01
/ud/unishared/unirpc/unirpcd
root  102792   86376   0   Apr 22  -  0:00 /usr/sbin/rpc.lockd

b- Needs to run relink.uvlibs and I I have relink.udlibs? It shows that it
requires for UniVerse to be re-started?

Question:
1- Not sure if I should execute the relink.udlibs If UniRpc is already
running?, See My Enviroment #1.

c- Needs a file called UVodbc.config configured but I do NOT have a file
called UDodbc.config?

Question:
2- 2- I found ALL of this files under $UDTHOME:
root:/:# find ./ -name '*odbc*' -print|more
./ud/bin/lib.d/uddlls/libodbc.a
./ud/bin/lib.d/uddlls/odbc.so
./ud/bin/lib/uddlls/libodbc.a
./ud/bin/lib/uddlls/odbc.so
./ud/lib/uddlls/libodbc.a
./ud/lib/uddlls/odbc.so

./.odbc.ini ?? INVALID IP Address, could have been
by predecessor trying
to setup UniData ODBC at one point?
root:/:# cat ./.odbc.ini
[MySQL-test]
Description = MySQL test database
Trace   = Off
TraceFile   = stderr
Driver  = MySQL
SERVER  = 192.168.1.26
USER= pharvey
PASSWORD=
PORT= 3306
DATABASE= test

[PostgreSQL]
Description = PostgreSQL driver for Linux & Win32
Driver  = /usr/local/lib/libodbcpsql.so
Setup   = /usr/local/lib/libodbcpsqlS.s
3- Talks about using UniAdmin or the UV account for data source creation but
the UniAdmin for the ud/sys for UniData does not have this feature?
Question:
4- What is the equivalent setup of the data source for UniData?

TIA and Cheers fellow groupies.

Do you mean ODBC from UniData (BCI) or into UniData (UniODBC?)

For BCI, check the (new) knowledge base at:
www.mvopen.org/kb/

There is an article on there "Accessing SQL Data through BCI".
This takes you through the steps and there is demo data/programs available.

For ODBC, I have a similar article - but I can't post it yet! (I'm still
waiting for the official publication before I'm allowed to do that). But if
you email me offlist I can send you a copy.

2006-06-02 Thread Angelo Collazo
Bingo Brian, It's "ODBC from UniData (BCI)" and this document "Accessing SQL
Data through BCI" looks' like it has what I need. Once I get a working
sample program I will post it just so it will get documented in the list so
it can be searched, Or maybe my search criteria "UniData ODBC sample" in the
U2UG" in http://www.u2ug.org/ and then cliked on "Search the Site and Forum"
http://www.u2ug.org/index.php?name=Search  was not enough?

Tom,

Not straight into Excel no - but I wrote a java prog that takes the
XML (although generated by udbasic, not a query in this case) and uses
the apache poi library to generate the spreadsheet.

The java prog uses apache digester to parse the XML then generates the
spreadsheet and either writes it to a permanent file location or uses
the javamail api to mail it as an attachment. Users love this, run
the prog and a short time later the spreadsheet is in their inbox.
For end of month processing etc. I write it to a samba mounted area
rather than emailing it so all the accountants can see it.

The poi stuff isn't hard, most of the work is making it look pretty
(colours, underlines, alignment etc). Poi itself is very efficient.
To generate a spreadsheet with 5000 cells might take several seconds
to parse the XML but a second or less to turn it into a spreadsheet.

Sounds complex but if you have a vague idea how javamail and apache
digester works (google for tutorials) the whole thing only took a few
days and works very well and if you don't its a good excuse to play
with them.

All the java libs (poi, digester and mail) are cross platform, I
developed on my XP desktop and deployed on RHEL2.1.

HTH

I'm having a problem with creating an extraction file in Unidata 6.0.9
on HPUX 11.11i. It's not writting to the correct attribute as defined by
the dictionary item named in "field".

Simple XML Doc(test.xml):

Node1
Node2
Node3

-
Extraction Record (text.ext)

-
Test Program
*$BASICTYPE "U"
SUBROUTINE B.TEST.XML
OPEN '','TEST.FILE' TO F.TF ELSE RETURN
*
XML.FNAME = "_XML_/test.xml"
EXT.FNAME = "_XML_/TEST.EXT"
*
STATUS = PREPAREXML(XML.FNAME,F_XML)
IF NOT(STATUS) THEN
  STATUS = OPENXMLDATA(F_XML,EXT.FNAME,D_XML)
  IF NOT(STATUS) THEN
MOREDATA = 1
LOOP WHILE (MOREDATA=1) DO
  STATUS = READXMLDATA(D_XML,THIS.REC)
  IF NOT(STATUS) THEN
WRITE THIS.REC ON F.TF,'DON.XML'
MOREDATA = 0
  END ELSE
  MOREDATA = 0
  STOP 'XML ERROR'
END
  END
REPEAT
*
STATUS = CLOSEXMLDATA(D_XML)
STATUS = RELEASEXML(F_XML)

  END ELSE
   PRINT 'OPENXML ERROR'
  END
END ELSE
  PRINT 'PREPARE ERROR'
END
-

Results of Test record (DON.XML) written to TEST.FILE:
<1> node1
<2> node3
-
Unidata appears to just be writing the data out sequentially rather than
using the attribute number in the dictionary item.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
