U2ers, I went to http://listserver.u2ug.org/cgi-bin/users but not sure it is the website which has all or most of the email submitted to this list? [U2] [UV] AIX UNIVERSE Printing
We are running AIX 5.3 and Universe 10.1.14. I'm having a problem sharing a network printer between AIX/Universe and Windows. A particular user wants to be able to print from Windows as well as from Universe. QUESTIONS: 1.) Does the Universe spooler operate somewhat like the following from UniVerse System Administration--Spooler: The queue connects, send a print job, and then disconnects to allows the printer to be shared by multiple clients. When one isn't printing, the others are able to connect. 2) Do you have to have print queues on the AIX side if you only print from Universe (JRT Spooler)? I'm willing to discuss this off-line in order not to burden the list with a specific question regarding AIX Uuniverse. I've included excerpts from the driver files for one of our printers setup the way you may want to test, if sending an ESC-E doesn't work (after your explanation of the situation, I won't be surprised if it doesn't). Hopefully my descriptions of each section below will make sense. Also, I would bet you will get some great help from the list. It's setup as a generic text printer. We send PCL codes to get fancy printing, etc. Good luck... Oh, one last thought. Try just pressing the ONLINE button on the Kyocera printer and see if that makes it work. If it does, I'm not sure how to work around it, but at least it may give you a clue. [U2] Trying to upgrading from Uv 9.6.2.5 to Uv 10.1.14
U2er's, We are currently running Universe 9.6.2.5 on an IBM F50 running AIX 4.3.3. I'm trying to upgrade from Universe 9.6.2.5 to Universe 10.1.14 from a CD. I don't believe UV 9.6 had a definition for the CD drive or else it has been deleted. While trying to install from the command 'uv.load', I receive the following dialog: Shutting down uniVerse DeadLock Daemon shutdown uniVerse has been brought down. Downloading from /cdrom to /uv Now loading uniVerse from the install media... A file or directory in the path name does not exist. ./uv.load[1255]: /cdrom/: 0403-016 Cannot find or open the file. Unable to read installation media. Contact your IBM support representative. Does anyone have a DEVICE definiton for the cd rom drive (/dev/cd0)? Or does anyone know of a alternative method for upgrading? ie copying the files from the cd to an area on the machine and installing from there. Perhaps a fix for the 'uv.load' script? [U2] OT: Unix Version of PR1MOS EDitor
We are running UniVerse release 9.6.2.5 under IBM AIX 4.3.3 on an IBM F50. Since there are still some us around who used PR1ME computers and PR1ME Information, I'll direct this question mainly to them. Does anyone know of any software for Unix which is compatible with the old PR1MOS Editor? I have a version of some software written by Greg Field who was with Computervision and then with Sun Computer in Australia. He wrote a program which was 99% compatible with the PR1ME EDitor. I've lost track of Greg and have been unable to contact him. If anyone knows Greg's whereabouts any information would be greatly appreciated. Re: [U2] Is there a method to suppress printing the Banner page after the fact?
I'm sorry but the print-ready files on our system do not have any data pertaining to the BANNER anywhere in the file. The info regarding the banner must be somewhere else. [U2] AIX and Universe and Network Printers
I'm running AIX 4.3.3 on an RS6000 - model F50, and running UniVerse release 9.6.2.5. We have a couple of printers which connect directly into the F50 (both serial and parallel) and are easy to describe to Universe. We have NO AIX/Unix Print Queues for these printers. I also have a Printronix P5220S printer which I would like to place on the network for the RS6000. The printer has an ethernet port and has been configured to the proper network settings (ie it has an IP address). Currently the printer works very well via the parallel port. My problem is configuring the printer to work with Universe via network setup. I'm not sure whether to configure a Print Queue on the AIX/Unix side or not. I've heard you have to configure a Print Queue on the AIX/Unix side. QUESTIONS: Do you have to have a Print Queue configured in AIX/Unix in order to define/configure the printer in Universe? If a print queue has to be defined in AIX/Unix, how do you configure the network printer to Universe? If a print queue does NOT have to be defined in AIX/Unix, how do you configure the network printer to Universe? If anyone using AIX and Universe and have setup network printer(s) like the Printronix, I would like to hear what the proper procedure for configuring the printer(s) so Universe knows about them, especially if you have to use a driver or script on the Universe side.
