Don't know why that would error as assigning a file name to a variable is
often used, however your error message in line 35 should end with D.KEY as

When running through an array with a for next loop the last item
processed isn't remembered so the program needs to traverse the entire
array for each record and will slow down as you get to records later in
the process.

Instead of this:

A11 = DCOUNT(IN.TAB,@AM)

FOR A1 = 1 TO A11
  IN.LINE = IN.TAB
  SWAP @VM WITH @AM IN IN.LINE
  CUST.NUM  = IN.LINE<1>
  CUST.DESC = IN.LINE<2>
NEXT A1

Try something like this instead:

LOOP
REMOVE IN.LINE FROM IN.TAB SETTING MARK
  SWAP @VM WITH @AM IN IN.LINE
  CUST.NUM  = IN.LINE<1>
  CUST.DESC = IN.LINE<2>
WHILE MARK DO
REPEAT

That will keep track of where you were in the array and pick up where
you left off.

Let me know how that works out for you.

Thanks,
Josh

READNEXT could be an option

SELECT IN.TAB
LOOP WHILE READNEXT IN.LINE DO
   CUST.NUM=IN.LINE<1,1>
   CUST.DESC=IN.LINE<1,2>
REPEAT

this should be lightning-fast regardless how big IN.TAB is.

an entry for Universe (not Unidata), but the connection methods are JDBC,
ODBC or JNDI.

We don't want to create an SQL-view of Unidata merely for ETL, we'd prefer

Has anyone worked with Pentaho? Any thoughts?

Does anyone have ETL tools in mind that natively talk to Unidata?

Depends on the emulator. What emulator and emulation are you using in
that
program?

Is it just me or does anyone else think this is confounding - the output of
the list users command in UniData contains tab characters, which is just
another obstacle the engineers give us to program around!

RE: [U2] Is there a UNIDATA equivalent of Universe Itype @RECORD

2008-06-02 Thread Marvin R. Fisher
According to the "Using Unidata.pdf", it looks to work just like Prime
Information and UniVerse.

While they don't talk a lot about using @record, they pass it to a subr in the
subr discussion -

Top of "ZIP" in "DICT CLIENTS", 7 lines, 50 characters.
*--: P
001: V
002: SUBR("PSTLCODE_FMT",@RECORD)
003:
004: Postal Code
005: 10R
006: S
Bottom.
*--:

But you'd have to think that if you can pass @record you should also be able to
reference @record<1> or anything you'd want to do with @record.

I don't have my UniData virtual machine available right now or I'd test it.

RE: [U2] Using ETL to extract data from UD to SQL

2008-05-13 Thread Marvin R. Fisher
Using Dynamic Change Update in MITS removes the need for the select and merge
method.

You just have to know which applications write to the source file and modify
them to write MITS.TODOS_app records for new source records, MITS.REDOS_app
records for changed source records and MITS.UNDOS_app records for deleted
source records.

Well, MITS does a SELECT against their copy, then against the source
copy and then merge the list. So - the larger it gets - well (Not
to mention I think MITS is a hunk of glorified crap)

I've had no issues using triggers. (My box is huge thou)

Subject: [U2] [off topic] 32 bit vs 64 bit + JRE

I don't know who else to ask, and uncle googl is not being that helpful...
so

(1) how do I find out if my server is 32bit SUSE or 64bit SUSE (googl says
you can tell at install, but that's a bit late..)

(2) I want to download the Java Runtime to install on SUSE 10 - it asks me
whether I want 32bit or 64 bit.

Why I need to know, is...

We are wanting to install Sysaid Help Desk on our server. (www.illient.com)
- well worth a look at coz its free and very good.

I have only ever installed [anything] on Windoze. Now I get to put this
thing on linux. Hoo boy.

Try this:

=CONCATENATE("","01234")

For any values with leading zeroes.

Subject: Re: [U2] Excel downloads

On this topic, I have a request for a solution.

In New Jersey, all the zip codes start with '0'. Add product codes like
012345 and order numbers like 000123 etc and you'll see the leading zeros.

When creating and exporting a CSV to eventually be used by Excel, those
columns lose their leading zeros as Excel thinks they are numeric.

I know that the users can and choose Custom etc.

I've converted the same CSV into a HTML boxed record and the zeros remain as
expected.

I've tried prepending the values with an astrophe (single quote) to no
avail.

The true data (as viewed in Notepad) is exactly as I sent it:
"07748","012345","000123"

So, any tricks in having Excel leave the zeros alone when clicking on the
CSV in WIndows Explorer. Meaning, that the person opening the CSV in excel
doesn't have to convert anything.

Thanks in advance

[U2] Exabyte 8MM under Universe PE

2007-10-04 Thread Marvin R. Fisher
Need some assistance with configuring the subject drive under Universe
PE.

I have added the device under UniAdmin, but am a bit clueless what to
place in the rewind and skip dos command prompts.

The examples in the help file do not work (c:\ibm\uv\bin\uvmt -dtape0
rew ).

The tape drive cannot be tested without the rewind entry.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Marv
