Fine by me Anthony.

Accidental banner adverts are ok too.

RE: [U2] PDF Efficiency

2005-10-28 Thread Tony Gravagno
The efficiency of the PDF has a lot to do with the tools used to generate
them, which you didn't mention here (htmldoc, ps2pdf, etc). Some
commandline tools for PDF include some form of compression argument. There
are tools available to optimize PDF in *nix, rather than going through the
export to PC and then through Acrobat. Yes, embedded fonts bloat PDF size,
can't say much else without knowing more about how they're being created.

Anyway, I ftp these files to my PC and bring up Acrobat
7.0 Professional and do a tools, print production, pdf
optimizer. This utility is able to cut down the size of
the file drastically. For example, a file of 909,425KB
 is shrunk to 2,714KB.

Now, for the question. Is there anything I can do to
improve the efficiency ? I have a feeling it has to do
with embedded fonts. If so, is there a way to place the
embedded fonts in the file only one time per file ? I
believe the lineart is in the file only one time.

I think the original message was sent to the incorrect address. Craig's
company writes a PDF generation program in U2 basic. I'm guessing it
should have been sent directly to them.

I rather enjoyed it. :) A little cross-pollination doesn't hurt.
