RE: How to SQLize the a UniData table!

2004-04-21 Thread Bright, Frank
Fawaz,

Have you installed VSG on your PC? It is used for make Unidata files into SQL tables
and views. Also, it helps if you have Unidata 6.0 installed. Once you have an SQL
table, you can install the ODBC drivers under windows, assuming you are using windows,
and create a DSN to retrieve tables with Access, Excel and others.

HTH!

Subject: How to SQLize the a UniData table!

Hi All,

We are trying to use UniSQL to retrieve data from a
UniData file. Since this is our first attempt, need to
know how to create Dictionary items which will work
with UniSql statement. I also need to know whether
this should be done for all the dictionary items in
the file or only the one we are planning to use with
UniSQL. Are there any changes to be made to the
UniData configfile? Should we have UniObject to use
UniSQL?

Cheers

Fawaz

RE: Unidata 6.0 upgrade from 5.7

2004-04-14 Thread Bright, Frank
Jim,

What are you plans? Do you plan to do an upgrade or concurrent install? We do
concurrent installs and switch the pointers in our accounts to point to the new
install. In the past we have had global routines that needed to be pointed to and
test with the new account. Now we do local so that we do not have to update the
pointers, just test a few of our routines.

If you have the space to do a concurrent then try that. The old account will be there
if you need something or need to go back.

HTH

We are a Unix shop using Unidata 5.7. We are being asked to upgrade to 6.0 in our LIVE
system without much advanced preparation. If there is anybody who can point to
anything that we should be concerned or aware of, your input is highly desired. We are
scheduled to do this on 4/24 so don't have much opportunity to react. Thanks in
advance!

Thanks Colin,

I found it that we had a '[' in our password and this caused the failure in the system.

In VSG did you make sure the user your are connecting as has the required
SQL privileges to access the files. Do they also have the required OS
permissions to access the files?

I've done this with a Win 2000 Dell PC with MS Access 2000 (and Excel 2000 -
with which I had more trouble) accessing UD 6.02, 6.07, 6.0.12 on Win 2000
servers. Our Aix box is in the middle of an upgrade to 6.0 something and I
haven't had a chance to test with it.

Connection to account failure!

2004-04-08 Thread Bright, Frank
Good Afternoon All!

I am setting up an ODBC query and I get the error "Connection to 'whatever account'
failure" after the listing of ODBC files to choose from. I am testing this out with
MS Access 2000 on Win 2000 Dell PC. The same problem occurs on other PCs running Win
XP. We are using Unidata 6.03 on an IBM P630 Box with AIX 5.2.02.

Has anyone else encountered this problem and was able to solve it?

Thanks in advance!

Core Dumps running ODBC connection from Access and Excel 2000

2004-02-04 Thread Bright, Frank
Hi All,

Maybe someone can help us out. We are running an IBM P630 with AIX 5.2.2. We have
Unidata 6.0.3 installed running ODBC. I loaded the ODBC 3.0 drivers on a Win2k
station (Pentium 4). We are having problems connecting to the ODBC files. We run
them and we will connect. We get the box that ask which SQL file do you want to
import. We select one and then get an error saying ODBC connection to 'such and such
file' failed.

The process ran once or twice properly where I got the data to the PC. But after that
it continues to fail. One thing I noticed is that a CORE dump occurred. The routine
that caused the dump is udsrvd. I am not sure if this has to do with anything but it
dumps at the time the ODBC is working.

I appreciate any help or input anyone could give.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Frank!

RE: Unidata 6.0 on AIX 5.2

2004-01-26 Thread Bright, Frank

We
upgraded both... to AIX 5.2 and Unidata 6.0.  We did the operating system
first.  We left it for about a month and then did the upgrade to the
database.  There were no major problems.  Only one dealing with how
the database install rewrites our database init files.
