Re: Users can't login to UV after upgrade from NT4 to 2003 SBS

2004-04-19 Thread Bruce Nichol
Goo'day,

IIRC, isn't there a problem with telnet on Micro$oft SBS that gets in the
way of what UniVerse expects of telnet?

Can't give you a deinitive fix, other than we were informed yonks ago
*not* to use SBS with UniVerse

 At 02:30 20/04/04, you wrote:

Having a strange problem at a client site.

There sysadmins upgraded the server running Universe from NT4 to Windows
2003 Small Business Server.
Everything seemed OK, until regular domain users tried to login to universe.
It seems to accept username/password but then telnet session terminates
immediately afterward.
Only two users can log in. Both of these users where members of the
administrators group.
All other users where members of Domain Users and a special group called
UVUsers which we setup and granted the right to 'logon locally'. We checked
to ensure the group UVUsers had right to logon locally - it did. We then
removed and recreated the group UVUsers and gave it rights to logon locally
- that still didn't work.
Now here is the really bizarre thing. EVEN if we add any of the regular
users to the administrators group - THEY STILL CAN'T LOGIN TO UNIVERSE.
Only those two users that happened to be members of the administrators group
when the server was upgraded are able to login.
I'm stumped.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
joe

 Back in the days of yore, we calculated similar jobs at an overall rate
 of 2/5ths VM (Pick in those days) involvement to
 normal (then-)mainstream COBOL 4GL development. (I use the quotes
 advisedly!   g).
Which'd put MV Basic at at about 35 LOC/FP.

Interestingly that's not far off the score I arrived at by gut feel.

Re: [UD] OPENSEQ, WEOFSEQ, CLOSESEQ

2004-04-13 Thread Bruce Nichol
Goo'day,

Check the archives.

IIRC, somebody (Ray Wurlod??? ) published a *complete* set of code for
OPENSEQ/READSEQ/WEOFSEQ, etc, full of THEN ELSE's about 12 to 18 months ago
that goes a long way to getting the damn thing working correctly.

At 03:14 14/04/04, you wrote:

Except for one possible inconsistency with the instructions regarding
OPENSEQ, the documentation seems very straight-forward. However, I'm
still missing something.
My intention is to:
1) create a record (if it doesn't already exist) in a DIR-type
file;
2) clear said record if data exists;
3) write new data to the record; and
4) close the file.
The problem is that only an empty record is created if the WEOFSEQ
command is executed. However, if the WEOFSEQ command is not executed,
the record will not first be cleared. In other words, each time someone
runs the program, the new info is appended to whatever exists.
Here's my code:

X.DIR   = X.HOME.WALDIES
X.FILE  = SRW_TEST_SEQ.txt
X.DELIM = |

* MAIN *

GOSUB OPEN.SEQFILE
FOR I = 0 TO 9
  OUTPUT.DATA =
  FOR J = 0 TO 9
BEGIN CASE
  CASE J # 9
OUTPUT.DATA := I:-:J:X.DELIM
  CASE 1
OUTPUT.DATA := I:-:J
END CASE
  NEXT J
  GOSUB WRITE.TO.SEQFILE
NEXT I
CLOSESEQ FV.SEQ

*~-~*~-~*~-~*~-~*~-~*~-~*~-~*~-~*~-~*~-~*~-~*~-~*~-~*~-~*

* ---
OPEN.SEQFILE:
* ---
PCPERFORM 'touch ':@PATH:'/':X.DIR:'/':X.FILE
OPENSEQ X.DIR,X.FILE TO FV.SEQ ELSE
  CRT File :X.FILE: in :X.DIR: didn't open!
END
WEOFSEQ FV.SEQ

RETURN

* ---
WRITE.TO.SEQFILE:
* ---
WRITESEQ OUTPUT.DATA APPEND TO FV.SEQ ELSE
  CRT Can't append :OUTPUT.DATA: to :X.FILE: in :X.DIR:!
END
RETURN

Goo'day,

Are you sure the IF E = 401 bit works in UV?

AFAIK, in UV, E = 0 if there are no items SELECTed, at least in Pick flavo*u*r.

The 401 bit is vanilla Pick, which I remember we had to change on
conversion to UV back in 9.3???.

Dunno about UD, though
