Second Call for Papers CAEPIA'13

XV Conference of the Spanish Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAEPIA)

September 17-20, 2013

MADRID, SPAIN

http://caepia13.aepia.org/

PRESENTATION

The Conference of the Spanish Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAEPIA)
is a biennial forum open to worldwide researchers to present and discuss their
last scientific and technological advances in Artificial Intelligence. The 15th
edition, CAEPIA'13, will be held in Madrid, Spain, from the 17th to the 20th of
September, 2013, within the Spanish Congress on Informatics (CEDI 2013).

As in previous editions, the objectives are: to facilitate the dissemination of
new ideas and experiences, to strengthen the links among the different research
groups involved, to promote knowledge transfer between recent researchers and
consolidated groups, and to help spread new developments to society.

To achieve the proposed objectives, authors are requested to send original
unpublished works, which describe relevant research about topics related to
Artificial Intelligence from all points of view: formal, methodological,
technical or applied. Works can be submitted in Spanish or English in LNCS
format (Springer).

CAEPIA'13 will use a double blind-review process. The authors will remove their
names from the submitted papers and must take responsibility for the
originality of the work and send it in the proper format.

CAEPIA will also be open to pre-doctoral work, and there will be a special call
for this type of work through the Doctoral Consortium. This event is specially
designed for the interaction between PhD students and senior researchers.

Besides original and pre-doctoral papers, this edition of CAEPIA will include,
for the first time, a special session on outstanding papers (key works) already
published in journals or forums of renowned reputation.

Finally, various independent conferences will take place under the scope of
CAEPIA. Such conferences (ASMas, FINO, LFSCI, MAEB, SICO, TAMIDA) will keep
their own program committee and will distribute their respective CFPs.

TYPES OF CONTRIBUTIONS

- CAEPIA papers (Main track): Submitted technical papers must be no longer than
10 pages and must be formatted according to LNCS guidelines. The submitted
paper will represent original research, with solid, well-founded or
demonstrable results on any of the conference topics. Accepted papers will be
assigned a 15- or 20-minutes slot for oral presentation at the conference.

- Pre-doctoral papers: We encourage the submissions of preliminary works from
PhD students. These works will be presented in special sessions at the
conference. The objective is to foster a fruitful debate between the candidate
and the audience. The length of these papers should not exceed 4 pages and will
be orally presented during 15 minutes. The authors of accepted papers as
pre-doctoral work will enjoy special benefits to attend the conference.

- Already published outstanding papers (Key works): Recent works published in
journals or forums of renowned reputation, during the period 2011-2013. The aim
is to spread them among a wide audience from the AI community, giving the
members of the community a chance to be exposed to works with which they are
not familiarized and to foster interdisciplinarity. Papers must be submitted in
a one-page format, with a clear reference to the previous published paper.
Accepted contributions will be assigned a 15-minutes slot in a joint session of

[UAI] CFP (New Deadline): AIIM Special Issue on Intelligent Biomedical Data, Signal and Image Analysis

2013-02-15 Thread Harris Papadopoulos

CALL FOR PAPERS
* Manuscript submission deadline: May 10 *

Special Issue on Intelligent Biomedical Data, Signal and Image Analysis

Artificial Intelligence in Medicine
(http://www.aiimjournal.com/)

Aim:

A substantial body of work from researchers around the globe has been
devoted to the development of intelligent techniques that can analyze
biomedical data and extract useful medical knowledge. Applications
stemming from such research have had a considerable impact in
healthcare. However, still several open problems remain in analyzing
biomedical data which existing approaches cannot yet sufficiently tackle.

The aim of this special issue is to present novel techniques and
introduce new research directions in biomedical data analysis that can
help address the key open issues in the field.

Important dates:

Manuscript submission deadline: May 10, 2013
Notification of initial decisions: August 10, 2013
Revised submission deadline: October 20, 2013
Notification of final decisions: December 20, 2013
Final manuscripts: January 31, 2014

Rationale

Recently, a sharp increase in capacity for collecting medical data has
become possible with the availability of modern biomedical
instrumentation. However, these data should undergo appropriate analysis
in order to extract meaningful information that could be of use to
medical practitioners. Unfortunately, in most cases traditional data
analysis techniques are unable to handle the high dimensionality and
sheer volume of such data. This has led to the development of novel data
mining techniques that can identify patterns and generate useful medical
knowledge. Such techniques, originating from diverse fields such as
machine learning, statistics, and signal processing, have received
considerable attention during the last decade and are increasingly being
adopted in healthcare.

Prominent examples include the application of data mining techniques for
analyzing data generated by high-throughput 'omic' technologies with the
purpose of identifying candidate biomarkers, and the extraction of
meaningful features form analyzing data obtained by medical imaging
technologies (e.g. MRI, CT).

Despite this encouraging progress there are still many challenging
issues that have not yet been adequately addressed. Examples include the
high-dimensionality of data with an inordinate number of features
compared to the limited number of cases, datasets suffering from strong
class imbalance, violation of the i.i.d. assumption (which is adopted by
most techniques), limited availability of labeled data, and several more.

Topics

The topics of this special issue include, but are not limited to:

* Biomedical data mining
* Combination of structured and unstructured data
* Intelligent data analysis in bio- and clinical medicine
* Intelligent analysis and fusion of genomic and proteomic data
* Intelligent medical image analysis
* Intelligent medical signal processing
* Disease progression prediction
* Data and knowledge representation / aquisition
* Intelligent Mining of Biomedical Streaming Data

Paper submission and review:

We invite authors to submit original research articles, as well as
comprehensive reviews, which contribute towards the aim of the special
issue. Submitted articles should report on significant previously
unpublished work.

Revised and substantially extended workshop and conference papers in the
field will also be considered. In these cases the journal paper
submission should contain at least 30% of new, previously unpublished
material. Authors should indicate in the cover letter whether the
submission is based on, or extends substantially, a previously published
conference or workshop paper, in which case a description of what is new
must also be included.

Manuscripts must follow the AIIM guidelines. The submission format and
other relevant details can be found at the journal submission site
http://ees.elsevier.com/aiim/. *All manuscripts should indicate in the
comments page of the submission process that they are being submitted
for the Special Issue on Intelligent Biomedical Data, Signal and Image
Analysis.*

Each submission will be peer-reviewed by at least three reviewers. Guest
editors will screen the submissions for eligibility and quality. All
papers accepted to the special issue are subject to final approval by
the Editor-in-Chief of the AIIM journal. It is planned that the articles
will appear in one of the issues of the Artificial Intelligence in
Medicine Journal, edited and published by Elsevier, in 2014. AIIM
typically has 9 issues per year.

[UAI] ComCom SI on Opportunistic Networking: Deadline Extended to Feb 26, 2013

2013-02-15 Thread Valerio Arnaboldi
*** Our Sincere Apologies if you receive multiple copies of this message ***

= PAPER SUBMISSION DEADLINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO =
   FEBRUARY 26, 2013 (11:59pm PST)

CALL FOR PAPERS
Elsevier - Computer Communications Journal
Special Issue on Opportunistic Networking
Submission Deadline (extended): February 26, 2013

The widespread availability of mobile portable devices enriched with a variety
of sensing capabilities, coupled with the impelling need of communication
anytime and anywhere, has rapidly raised the interest towards new approaches to
communications between users. Opportunistic networks are an instance of the
delay tolerant paradigm applied to networks made up of users' portable devices
(such as smartphones and tablets). As such, they are able to cope with
challenged network conditions that are often present in real life, such as high
node mobility, variable connectivity, and disconnections, which would impair
communications in traditional Mobile Ad Hoc Networks. In this scenario, user
mobility becomes one of the main drivers to enable message delivery. In fact,
according to the store-carry-and-forward paradigm, user devices store messages
and carry them around while they move in the network, exchanging them upon
encounter with other nodes, and eventually delivering them to the
ir destination or to interested users. This new communication paradigm enables
legacy applications in challenged scenarios, as well as it paves the way to
innovative solutions. While opportunistic networks initially received attention
to support communication where an infrastructure is not available (for disaster
recovery or in rural areas), nowadays a number of applications can be envisaged
ranging from content sharing, through mobile social networking, to
participatory and urban sensing. All these applications rely on data forwarding
amongst devices. As a consequence, two aspects become relevant, that is, the
need for mechanisms guaranteeing trusted and secure communications while
preserving users' privacy (in the absence of infrastructure and sometimes even
end-to-end connectivity), and incentive mechanisms able to boost the
participation in the network.

This Special Issue of Computer Communications seeks contributions pushing the
state of the art in Opportunistic Networking. Topics of interest include (but
are not limited to) the following:

- Mobility measurements and models, mobility trace analysis
- Measurements, models, and analysis for user behaviors on mobile devices
- Unicast and multicast routing
- Transport, congestion control, and reliability issues
- Content dissemination, content caching, service composition, opportunistic
computing
- Trust, security privacy in opportunistic forwarding, incentive mechanisms,
reputation systems, and key management
- Application support and middleware for opportunistic networks
- New applications and services relying on opportunistic networking
- Systems and experience for real-world deployments
