I did the box approach for similar. Bought an AC-disconnect box from Home
Depot for $6, and took the AC-disconnect out, put the PoE injector in.

support team as well. We are tracking another issue w/ remote inform which
perhaps could be this same ER fix. Investigating to see if there is ER in
the stack.

Re: [Ubnt_users] Unifi controller system requirements at large scale

2017-05-09 Thread Brandon Gilles via Ubnt_users
Mainly it's UI responsiveness. We have single sites w/ ~300 APs and ~5k
users and this works fine. Depending on roaming behavior, the client
machine looking at the controller becomes the limit.

So if you are looking at the UI, using a nice computer it will still be
super-snappy w/ lots of users on a single site.

Smaller sites have much less impact - as statistics are only being shown
for the sites being currently looked at.

Re: [Ubnt_users] Unifi Mesh: Questions and Outdoor+ end of life?

2017-02-23 Thread Brandon Gilles via Ubnt_users
My pleasure. Will try to do announcement when we have new stuff on
demo.ubnt.com to check out.

Oh - speaking of which: For some of you doing RFP responses for major
organizations... the feedback we've gotten is that some have written into
them is requirement for 'lifetime warranty'.

We not have 'UniFi Elite' - where you can sign up for a yearly service,
which includes warranty (which extends to as long as you have the service),
improved RMA (including option for advance-shipment), and full cloud
solution.

Before this has been a block for some proposing to such RFPs, now should be
good. Elite is an option (all existing options still exist of course, and
actually support, warranty, and self-installed cloud - AWS, Digital Ocean,
etc.)) are all better as a result of this effort.

Cheers,
Brandon

Re: [Ubnt_users] Unifi Mesh: Questions and Outdoor+ end of life?

2017-02-23 Thread Brandon Gilles via Ubnt_users
My pleasure.

Yes, you can use group edit for this (and other things):

https://help.ubnt.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000170548-UniFi-Group-Configuration-for-Access-Points

So this way you can just select all the radios you want to do this to, and
change them all at once. Or if you want to do the whole site - just do the
single checkbox at the top, which will select all the radios in the site.

I hope this helps.

Cheers,
Brandon

P.S.: We're going to add tutorials to demo.ubnt.com to highlight
lesser-known features like this, and show how/when to use them.

Re: [Ubnt_users] Little UniFi Switches - US-8 and US-8-60W

2016-11-21 Thread Brandon Gilles via Ubnt_users
Only 802.3af. This was done for thermal, size, and cost: It's $109. For
802.3at and 24V, US-8-150W is an option.

Also can use the following for a 24V device off the US-8-60W:
INS-3AF-O-G $21
INS-3AF-I-G $20

Cheers,
Brandon

Re: [Ubnt_users] Little UniFi Switches - US-8 and US-8-60W

2016-11-21 Thread Brandon Gilles via Ubnt_users
Actually, no (sorry). The magnetics are only rated for powering the switch
itself, and then say a single PoE-out device. They'd get overloaded trying
to power multiple 24V devices.

It's limited by the current in the transformers.

Pics or it didn't happen:

Re: [Ubnt_users] Little UniFi Switches - US-8 and US-8-60W

2016-11-21 Thread Brandon Gilles via Ubnt_users
The US-8-60W will be in stock on the Beta store this week for
early-adopters. The US-8-60W has 4 non-PoE ports and 4 802.3af ports - no
24V PoE ports on this one (the whole UniFi line is moving to 802.3af/at).
The US-8-150W has 24V and 802.3at. We're also releasing gigabit 802.3af
adapters, both indoor and outdoor:
INS-3AF-O-G $21
INS-3AF-I-G $20

So if you want to power a 24V devices w/ the US-8-60W, you could do so w/
one of those. These will be available in volume in about 2 weeks.

The US-8 has PoE in and PoE out. So if you pass in 802.3at it will pass
out 802.3af. If you pass in 24V, 1A (and this is important, 24V, 1A) you
can pass through 24V, 0.5A. The switch itself needs 12W (24V, 0.5A) for
itself. If you pass in 24V, 0.5A, you can power the switch, with no PoE
out.

   - store.ubnt.com/beta, and need to be registered Beta tester to have
   access:
   -

https://help.ubnt.com/hc/en-us/articles/204908664-How-To-Signup-for-Beta-Access

Both the US-8-60W and US-8 should be available to purchase in volume in
late December (Merry Christmas!).

Cheers,
Brandon

[Ubnt_users] Little UniFi Switches - US-8 and US-8-60W

2016-11-20 Thread Brandon Gilles via Ubnt_users
Hey UniFi Users,

For those of you who hadn't seen yet, we're adding two smaller switches to
the UniFi lineup:

1. US-8. PoE powered with PoE pass through.
2. US-8-60W. 4x 802.3af PoE ports.

If you're interested in trying these out before they're officially out,
feel free to sign up for Beta and buy them from our Beta-only store at
store.ubnt.com/beta - starting later this week.

Cheers,

Re: [Ubnt_users] New UniFi Outdoor 11AC APs Coming Soon!

2016-11-16 Thread Brandon Gilles via Ubnt_users
Yes, each hop halves the throughput:

Here's an example:

   -

   20MHz channels
   -

   Android(Nexus 6P) connected on 5GHz
   -

   UAP-AC-M

Hardwired:

[ 5] 0.00-20.05 sec 272 MBytes 114 Mbits/sec sender

[ 5] 0.00-20.05 sec 271 MBytes 113 Mbits/sec
 receiver

First hop:

[ 5] 0.00-20.22 sec 122 MBytes 50.7 Mbits/sec sender

[ 5] 0.00-20.22 sec 122 MBytes 50.6 Mbits/sec
 receiver

Second hop:

[ 5] 0.00-20.24 sec 66.2 MBytes 27.4 Mbits/sec sender

[ 5] 0.00-20.24 sec 66.2 MBytes 27.4 Mbits/sec
 receiver

So when designing your network, can just plan on about that for service/etc.

Hardwire as needed to maintain service level planned.

Also keep in mind this is when station is connected on 5GHz. You can
always disable 5GHz service to stations, and use it for Mesh backhaul only,
so:

5GHz: dedicated uplink for mesh.
2.4GHz: station service.

This will increase performance.

Cheers,
Brandon

Re: [Ubnt_users] New UniFi Outdoor 11AC APs Coming Soon!

2016-11-16 Thread Brandon Gilles via Ubnt_users
Correct. Can plug and play as you desire. Can do all UAP-AC-M, or all
UAP-AC-M-PRO, or mix/match.

Can do single-hop uplink off of existing Gen2 devices (AC-LITE, AC-LR,
AC-PRO, AC-EDU, AC-IW) to AC-M and AC-M-PRO.

AC-M and AC-M-PRO are only ones that support multi-hop.

No multi-lane. However I'd be curious to see a bakeoff. Multi-lane was
more useful when all the 2.4GHz channels weren't all destroyed (as it
filters off-channel noise, not on-channel). ;-)

Re: [Ubnt_users] New UniFi Outdoor 11AC APs Coming Soon!

2016-11-15 Thread Brandon Gilles via Ubnt_users
It allows multiple uplink. So in locations where you want more coverage
than bandwidth (and don't have hardlines), you can daisy-chain.

[Ubnt_users] New UniFi Outdoor 11AC APs Coming Soon!

2016-11-15 Thread Brandon Gilles via Ubnt_users
Hey Ubiquiti Users,

Wanted to point out some new outdoor APs for UniFi:

   - UAP-AC-M: $99 | 11ac 2x2 dual-band concurrent | Connectorized
   - UAP-AC-M-PRO: $199 | 11ac 3x3 dual-band concurrent | Integrated Omni

We listened to our top 3 requests from the previous AC-Outdoor:
#1: Wireless uplink. Supported.
#2: Cost. $479 to $99 and $199 respectively.
#3: Connectorized. UAP-AC-M.

Check them out here:
https://unifi-mesh.ubnt.com/

These have limited initial shipments this month, and are shipping in volume
in December.

And Beta users can actually buy them now at store.ubnt.com/beta

Cheers,
UBNT-Brandon

Shawn,

Just got confirmation from Chuck that the AF24 is indeed monitorable from
AC2.

Latest release as of now:

Re: [Ubnt_users] Nvr hdmi output

2016-09-29 Thread Brandon Gilles via Ubnt_users
Yes. Recording is heavily optimized on that platform (and others).
Playback is not optimized to be run directly from the NVR - so it could
have stability/etc. consequences.

UBNT-Brandon here.

The key here is the number of active users and the expected throughput
needed per active user.

How many of those 1,500 folks do you think will actively be on the WiFi?

So it does constantly test if your internet is up. So if there are
intermittent cut-outs you'll get these emails.

There's a setting to disable them. Also - what version are you running?
