BRLTTY problems

2008-03-08 Thread Christian
Hi all,
Just wanted to try alpha6 of Ubuntu just to see if my hardware is working now.
It didn't work that good with the 7.10 release.
Isn't BRLTTY included on the alternate CD?
I tried running
install brltty=ts,ttyS0 but nothing happens.
Many thanks,
Christian

Hi,
I type that as soon as the cd boots up.

Should be

 I tried running

How do you type that?

orca not recognising my sound card?

2008-03-08 Thread J. T. Laurie
Hello all,
I am attempting to run ubuntu 6.10 from the live cd. upon starting up normally,
my sound card works fine, but when I attempt to use orca, no joy.
There are no error messages and enable speech is checked.
I have a real tech high definition audio card. that is all that shows up in
windows device manager. I do not know how to force ubuntu to realise I have a
sound card and let orca start speaking. Volume was at maximum, so that wasn't
the issue.
Any help is appreciated.
Cordially,
Taylor

For a start, I suggest you try out Ubuntu 7.10, as it is much newer than 6.10,
and has much better accessibility.

There are no error messages and enable speech is checked.

Try disabling GNOME sound events from gnome-sound-properties, and see if you
can get speech with GNOME sound events turned off. Let me know if you are
unsure as to how to do this.

Sounds like your card is supported, but something is getting the way of Orca
speaking. Hope the above helps.

Hi, In windows I see the update option in the help menu of firefox.
I recently looked for this in the linux version, and didn't find it. Is the
update option in a different place, or is it missing. I thought I did find it
there a few weeks ago, but it definitely isn't there now.

If you are using firefox from the Ubuntu repositories, it has been removed for
the simple reason that you use the repositories to get updates, and using
firefox's update function without using the repository would break things.

Yes, they are.
