I've been using lucid with Orca 2.30.2 for several months now and it
works quite fine.

Hi,
I need your advice because I have no knowledge about.
We will donate a computer to a smaal organization running a house for
visually impaired children and orphans. They do'nt have access to the
internet.
So the computer, of course with the help of Orca, can be a great help
for education etc. and also to play some games.
I installed Maverick and Orca 3.1.1 but can somebody confirm if this
is the better choice than Lucid LTS?
I think the computer will be used untill the hardware dies without
updating in the meanwhile.

Thanks in advance.

Re: BRLTTY does not start automatically since upgrade of my system

2011-01-31 Thread Marion Peterreins

Hi all,

Since my last mail i've tried several things to get my braille display
starting automatically again.

First i thought that brltty might not start automatically. So i added it
to my /etc/rc.local

After rebooting i issued the command
ps -A | grep -i .*brltty
to see if it is running. To my suprise it was even running twice :-)
So i removed it from the rc.local again.

IN the next step i tried removing and reinstalling the package. When i
started aptitude remove brltty it complained about brltty-x11 is broken.
After confirming it removed the packages (brltty and brltty-x11). Now i
installed brltty and brltty-x11 again.

But unfortunatelly without any success..

Currently i have installed brltty 4.1. Would it make sense to install a
newer version of it? And how could i get it?
I'd prefer to use no testing repositories or something like this bc i
use my ubuntu on a daily basis ...

Any help / new ideas would be appreciated!

Best wishes Marion

Hi all,

Is there an Ocr-software that can be used on Ubuntu and that is
orca-friendly so to speak?

Best wishes Marion!

dictionary

2010-09-22 Thread Marion Peterreins

Hi all

I've been using ubuntu 10.4 with Orca 2.30.2 for several weeks now.
I tried to use the standard dictionary of gnome and the following
problem occured:
I can only use the monolingual english dictionary but don't know how to
add other dictionaries like English German for instance.

Where do I find the list of dictionaries and how can I choose them?

Thanks in advance.
Best wishes, Marion!
