Always include the *-c* flag, this will help you resume your download if you have ever closed/stopped it. Resuming a download is easy; goto the same folder, write the same command *wget -c http://downloadurl*, and you will see *wget* picks up right where it left off last time. Replace the http://downloadurl with the link you are actually trying to download. 2. *Gwget*: the gui version of wget. If you are not comfortable with the command line wget, use this. 3. *KGet*: if you have installed any software for the kde destop, this will not cost you much of a download through synaptic. But I use it all the time for its power and flexibility. It can definitely perform parallel downloads. What I like most is its ability to limit download speed. This is specially useful if you want to keep the download on, but alongside you need to browse a bit too. I have extensively used these three managers, so I can only recommend about them with surety.
