[Bug 52200] Re: Can't start programs after resume from suspend/hibernate
It just happened again (it only happens sometimes, so it's difficult to test)... I was able to - start console apps (less, man, python, ps, grep, ...) - open new gnome-console windows tabs I wasn't able to - start X apps (xterm) - start gnome apps (gedit, gnometris, ...) [Bug 52605] smb manual mounts (not in fstab) hang system
Public bug reported: Please see http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=212964. When smb share is mounted via command line: $ sudo mount -t smbfs -o username=my username/source machine workgroup //source machine IP address/share name /mnt/mount point remote share is accessable for a short period of time (minutes) then dissappears. That is, copies from remote share to target Linux stall, and $ls command yields Input/Output error. In some cases, system hard- locks requiring a power cycle. /var/log/messages and dmesg show nothing. If there is someplace else I can look, let me know. Source machine is a Windows 2003 R2 system. Target system was also Windows 2003 until yesterday when Kubuntu was installed. Systems had been up and running (and communicating over the network) for several months with no issues, so source system (Windows 2003) and network are known to be reliable. [Bug 51991] Re: Xorg process freezes, uses 100% of CPU. Can be killed by remote terminal.
I have a homebrew system with Sempron 2400+ 512 MB RAM 160 GB hard drive ECS KT600A motherboard I had difficulties with the nVidia MX400 AGP graphics card I was using, and upgraded to an MX4000 card. (This was with Breezy Badger.) I then started to have the bug reported here: display locks, x.org uses 99+% of the CPU, keyboard unresponsive, the mouse cursor still moves, but the system can be accessed via ssh and x.org killed. Using the nv driver corrected the problem, but gave lousy graphics performance. I switched to an ATI card, but couldn't get decent performance from it. I switched back to the MX400 card. I now run Dapper Drake. I recalled that I have an MX4000 PCI card that I could try... and installed it and switched to it. I got glx to work...and boom. After a bit of trying out the GL screensavers to check that they were working nicely, I went on to do some other stuff and bang... the screen froze, but the mouse could still move. This time it was slightly different: after about five minutes or so delay, x.org finally paid attention to ctrl-alt-bs and restarted. If you look on the nvidia Linux forum you will find that people have had this problem with the nvidia proprietary driver for YEARS. See http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=31858 and http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=73231 for more info. I have another system with an Athlon 2100, and a K7S5A motherboard. I used the MX4000 card that made the KT600A system freeze...and had no trouble whatsoever. That system now runs Dapper Drake just fine. (OK, compiz dies on it, but compiz is still highly experimental. If I go back to metacity, all is well.) -- Xorg process freezes, uses 100% of CPU. [Bug 48226] Re: Autohide bugs
I've seen the same problem on a panel with default size and with a panel of size 52. I've been trying a bit with the panel at the top. I've tried with the panel up and I haven't been able to reproduce the jumping panel bug. Maybe the bug is only with panel at the bottom or maybe it's because of the way I use it when it's at the bottom. In any case, the bug happens for me about once a day or so. The more vm activity there is, the more the bug happens, which is why I think it's related to timing issues. For example, say the panel has a hide timeout of 300 ms and is currently hidden. I touch it with the mouse pointer to make it show up, but quickly move my pointer away. It seems like the panel starts counting (hide timeout) at the moment I ask it to unhide. If it takes more than 300 ms for the panel to appear (machine swaps), it actually tries to hide itself before it has even unhidden itself from the first action. That leads to strange behaviour like what I describe in this bug report (and other oddities as well). -- Autohide bugs https://launchpad.net/bugs/48226 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 43531] Re: Kernel isn't very useful without a boot loader, but doesn't depend on one
Note that there is already a nobootloader installer component, so there is no need for complicated schemes involving asking the user strange questions, since the framework's already there in the installer in the event that neither grub nor lilo nor yaboot (etc.) is appropriate. nobootloader.postinst should apt-install this new no-boot-loader package. Closes: #376085 - de.po updated by Tobias Toedter - th.po updated by Theppitak Karoonboonyanan. * Remove debian/watch file from EXTRA_DIST in Makefile.am * Move to Standards-Version: 3.7.2. No changes required. * Remove iso_4217_historic.tab and iso_4217.tab as they are outdated and no longer distributed * Remove iso2tab.py and tab2h.pl as they are no longer used. * iso2pot.py: Derive the header of POT files from the file input * Use a more portable method of creating directories during the installation of data files. Thanks to Julio M. Merino Vidal for the patch. Closes: #375687 * Add debian/compat file for debhelper * Update of the debian/copyright information * debian/rules: - Remove dependency on autoconf and automake - Rewrite large parts of the build system to better conform to standard rules files * debian/control: - Change Build-Depends-Indep to Build-Depends, according to Policy 7.6. The reason is that we call the clean target. - Remove autoconf and automake from Build-Depends - Add XC-Package-Type: udeb to iso-3166-udeb to give debhelper a hint about the package * Remove the debian/ directory from the EXTRA_DIST variable in Makefile.am, as we're not building a native Debian package. The generated tarball does now no longer include the Debian specific parts. . [ Miroslav Kure ] * iso_639/cs.po updated * iso_4217/cs.po updated . [Bug 52625] kernel-package should compile a kernel with -fno-stack-protector in edgy
Public bug reported: gcc-4.1 in edgy has now -fstack-protector on by default. Today I tried to compile a kernel and failed. It looked like it couldn't find the stack protector functions / library. I had to add -fno-stack-protector to the other flags to compile the kernel succesfully. So either add -fno-stack-protector when building a kernel or gcc shouldn't use -fstack-protector on kernel builds (if it's possible) ** Affects: kernel-package (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- kernel-package should compile a kernel with -fno-stack-protector in edgy https://launchpad.net/bugs/52625 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 52570] Re: Can´t eject CDs via the dri ve button
It sounds like your eject key is not working properly, rather than it being KDE's fault. What type of computer is it?
