Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libnss-mdns If you try to do a ssh foo.local or target your browser at http://foo.local you will be greeted with a long delay before it finally goes. This is due to Ubuntu using the the module with both ipv6 and ipv4. This is frowned upon by upstream: http://0pointer.de/lennart/projects/nss-mdns/ Due to the fact that most mDNS responders only register local IPv4 addresses via mDNS, most people will want to use libnss_mdns4.so.2 exclusively. Using libnss_mdns.so.2 or libnss_mdns6.so.2 in such a situation causes long timeouts when resolving hosts since most modern Unix/Linux applications check for IPv6 addresses first, followed by a lookup for IPv4. Ubuntu should use mdns4 exclusivlely. IPv6 is awesome, but the mDNS responders out there generally do not support this and for now it just adds an annoying wait. /etc/nsswitch.conf should have -hosts: files dns mdns +hosts: files dns mdns Another suggestion by upstream is to have: hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns4 Which uses the minimal version which refuses to do anything not ending in .local -- this takes a burden off of dns servers. Can you give more details ? The WebHTTrack server headers are definitely ISO-8859-1 - actually they are even ASCII, subset of UTF-8. So I could change all charsets into UTF-8 without much troubles. Regarding the captured sites, the upstream charset is propagated into the META so that standalone .html files can work without much troubles. There have been some report of problems with UTF-8 inside links, but I could not yet confirm them. [Bug 54420] Change Encoding in Edit Album doesn't work
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kaudiocreator Can't seem to change the encoding (affecting the language used for the id3 tags when ripping) from within the Edit Album section. Always defaults to the first choice in the Encoding drop down regardless of selected choice (selection doesn't stick). This means that non-English songs titles will be ripped with Mojibake info in the id3 tags. Have tried manally entering song titles in Chinese, the displayed album listing is updated, but the encoding used isn't. Have also ran into the following situation on a default English desktop with Chinese language support installed: 1) Chinese language album information is picked up from freedb. 2) Non-English song titles show up as Mojibake text. English song titles ok. 3) Went into Edit Album, changes encoding to Simplified Chinese (gbk). Song titles are correctly displayed. 4) Exiting Edit Album section sees the CD Tracks (first) screen being updated with the correct song title information. 5) Go into Edit Album again, the non-English song titles are again in Mojibake. 6) Check the Change Encoding section. Encoding has being restored to the first selection. I'm certain that it's always the first choice, because have tried ripping the same cd on a system with Chinese Desktop, which doesn't default to the Arabic encoding like the English Desktop does. Everything else stays the same though, Mojibake song titles and all.
