[Bug 64119] add/remove ati binary package
Public bug reported: Installing the xorg ati binary package from add/remove in edgy slows down the system and producces system crashes when running X games. For example: I installed Ubuntu Edgy made updates and all was fine even with fglrx. I then fixed my monitor settings by modifying the xorg.conf with the corect settings for my monitor (Ivory max res 1280x1024 unknow in any os :P) for beeing able to modify my refresh rate up to 85Hz. Then I thought of installing the add/remove ati binary package, witch I did, but I then started having problems :(. The X started moving sllightly slower. I thought perhaps my system configuration but the big surprise camed when I've started to get system crashes on oppening games (that didn't happend before - to be exact total system freez). I've unistalled the package and all is back to normal again. A friend told me that it's the same with the nvidia binary. [Bug 64128] ati/radeon driver has issues with resolution of external displays
Public bug reported: I have a Dell Latitude D600. It has a Radeon Mobility 9000 M9 (R250 Lf) graphics card, and an internal 1400x1050 display. I recently picked up a Chimei CMV 221A LCD monitor, capable of doing 1680x1050. The closed-source fglrx driver picks this up and does the right thing - offering both 1680x1050 and 1400x1050 resolutions. The open-source radeon/ati driver, however, loses it's tiny little mind. It refuses to accept that 1680x1050 might be a valid resolution, telling me that (WW) RADEON(0): Mode 1680x1050 is out of range. (WW) RADEON(0): Valid modes must be between 320x200-1400x1050 If I plug in the external monitor after X has booted, it sends 1280x1024 out to the LCD. Worse yet, if I start X with the monitor plugged in, it sets both the internal LCD and external display to 1280x1024. And the bottom of the screen isn't visible! Argh! The fglrx driver, on the other hand, works fine. But the previous version of the closed-source driver had a boned version of libGL, and the latest version has dropped support for this graphics card. Sigh. I will attach two xorg.confs and two Xorg.logs to this report, for the radeon driver and the fglrx driver. I can also generate one for the radeon driver booting with the external monitor plugged in, if it's useful. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-driver-ati (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- ati/radeon driver has issues with resolution of external displays https://launchpad.net/bugs/64128 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 48473] Re: Some drivers do not work with wpasupplicant, and therefore NM.
Bug 42504 and 46136 are the same bug. (but not marked as duplicate for historical / versioning reasons) Since you keep making casual reads as opposed to understand the problem, let me describe it here in detail to resolve your curiousity: In dapper, the version of ndiswrapper is only partially compatible with wpasupplicant. Therefore, only _some_ ndiswrapper setups work well with the ndiswrapper-specific wpasupplicant work-around that is actually selected by NM. The remaining setups continue breaking. Therefore, using ndiswrapper with NM (and wpasupplicant) in dapper is a inconsistent situation and a lot of people solved the issue by either rolling back, or reverting the workaround. In edgy, the version of ndiswrapper is much newer. It is fully compatible with wpasupplicant running in its normal mode of using wireless extensions. However, the dapper workaround patch to NM that calls wpasupplicant with the alternate driver is still in the package. Therefore, out of the box, NM (not wpasupplicant) is broken on edgy with ndiswrapper. wpasupplicant works fine, but NM is instructing it to run in a historical method. Perhaps that helps explains the issue? This bug is, of course, totally different than the ones occurring in this bug. In this situation, the drivers themselves simply do not work with wpasupplicant in wireless extensions mode at all. My plain is to start a hardware database on the wiki for working NetworkManager configurations once the ndiswrapper patch removal is approved by main sponsors. (Thereby being able to close out several bugs.) -- Some drivers do not work with wpasupplicant, and therefore NM. https://launchpad.net/bugs/48473 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
