2006-12-01 Thread Randakar

Removed S13pcmciautils, and now it boots!

You were dead right on that one.

It also seems to me that the bug here is definitely in either that
i82365 PCMCIA bridge driver module, or in the code that attempts to find
PCMCIA devices.

My guess is the latter.
One of the things I noticed was that this system doesn't even *have* an i82365
pci device when I look at the lspci output. No surprise there when I apply
hindsight..

Here's what the S13pcmciautils script does (and note the kernel never
reaches the end of this script):

---
log_daemon_msg Loading PCMCIA bridge driver module $PCIC

if [ $CORE_OPTS ]; then
modprobe -Qb pcmcia_core $CORE_OPTS
fi

modprobe -Qb $PCIC $PCIC_OPTS

log_end_msg $?

[Bug 67487] Re: [edgy][regression][rv280] black screen and console freeze when X starts - drm lockup

2006-12-01 Thread Enochian_Borg
Ubuntu 6.10 Live Cd Works !!!
Problem seems to be the graphics device

It does not load properly with my ASUS with Intel Extreme Graphics
(Built On Motherboard) SVGA Output to Mitsubishi Diamond Plus 71 -
Screen goes BSOD but CTRL-ALT-F1through6 works Just F7 is BSOD

But Same Live CD-Rom Disk Loads Directly and works on this following
system.

E-machines T1120
Intel Celeron Processor 1.2 ghz
512 MB Ram

Important Notes: Emachines is using
3D AGP Graphics Intel Direct APG
Using a ProView 17 Monitor

I do not know why but my Emachines is a few years older and my ASUS is
P4P800 MX and has Pentium 4.

I don't believe this problem is related directly to the Radeon type
Cards nor is it limited to the Intel Graphics Cards.

I have ruled out the problem having any descrimination between AMD and
Intel Chipsets.

It is Xorg related and has to do directly with 85HZ that is the default
start (Main BSOD problem) as some monitors require a device driver to be
installed before they will accept these ranges (or they cannot accept
85HZ signals at all !!) If we can figure out how to change the default
HZ value at boot then we will have solved our problem !!

Luke, you are proposing to add a special case to the Services dialog for

about individual services. To justify such a change one would have to
explain why avahi daemon is special and can't just work the way
everything else does - and there is no so such explanation.

Big thx for the good and bad words. I agree that usability and style are

[Bug 59632] Re: Evolution throws error with imap/ssl

2006-12-01 Thread Daniel Werner
I have been noticing a similar problem since the upgrade from Dapper to
Edgy. Trying to contact my company's IMAP server always resulted in an
Unknown error, not even in SSL negotiations failed. Refreshing
folders etc. didn't work, not with TLS, not with SSL, not even with
plaintext passwords (ugh).

Not until I tried restarting Evolution after selecting SSL. Thank you,
Fredrik -- it seems I too got fooled. This is an undesirable behaviour,
by the way: Evolution should really apply the selected Security method
when checking for Supported [Auth] Types. Should I file a new bug for
this issue?

[Bug 73934] Re: Firefox cannot spell internet

2006-12-01 Thread davmor2
Okay sorry about the misunderstanding, at this point though I would like
to ask can an electronic dictionary store two words the same? As the
same issue arises in the dictionary used by OOo and gedit so this isn't
a firefox bug at all which was why I closed it. This may of been
incorrect and correct at the same time. I think this issue needs to
change to dictionary can not spell. But then I can't find an option in
firefox to see which dictionary it uses.

[Bug 67487] Re: [edgy][regression][rv280] black screen and console freeze when X starts - drm lockup

2006-12-01 Thread Enochian_Borg
I am running a final experiment to be sure. I will switch the monitors
and see if the asus will work with the Proview if so then I am sure that
it is the monitors hz value and nothing else. Also found that on
install to HD that partitioning function is not cooperating very well.
Cannot install to HD yet. But I will do more research.

I will post my findings shortly... I must reboot and connect the
monitor and run the experiment first.

[Bug 72281] Re: Unable to install with following bug...

2006-12-01 Thread Colin Watson
Thanks for your report. The kernel apparently decided that it was unsafe
to write any more data to your hard disk, and marked it as read-only.
This particular error is normally due to a faulty hard disk, or
sometimes a problem with the kernel. It may help to check whether the
hard disk is old and in need of replacement, or to move the system to a
cooler environment. The installer in Ubuntu 6.10 displays a better error
message when this happens.

[Bug 73350] Re: Ubuntu 6.06 failed installation

2006-12-01 Thread Colin Watson
There's a kernel oops in there; this is not an installer bug. Chances
are that this is due to a faulty CD/DVD disk or drive. It may help to
clean the CD/DVD, to burn the CD/DVD at a lower speed, or to clean the
CD/DVD drive lens (cleaning kits are often available from electronics
suppliers). I'll reassign the bug to the kernel just in case, but it
should probably be rejected.

[Bug 73325] Re: i dont know what happend i cant install it freezes

2006-12-01 Thread Colin Watson
Installer freezes are generally either a kernel bug or due to a faulty
CD/DVD disk or drive. It may help to clean the CD/DVD, to burn the
CD/DVD at a lower speed, or to clean the CD/DVD drive lens (cleaning
kits are often available from electronics suppliers).

At any rate, I'm afraid nothing can be done with such a short bug
report.

[Bug 72895] Re: [feisty] [linux-image-2.6.19-6] BUG: soft lockup detected on CPU#0!

2006-12-01 Thread Randakar

I can now confirm that running '/etc/init.d/pcmciautils start' as root after
bootup hangs the kernel.

That script sources /etc/default/pcmciautils which lists what hardware
it thinks I have:

--
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# cat /etc/default/pcmciautils
# Defaults for PCMCIA (sourced by /etc/init.d/pcmcia)
PCMCIA=yes
PCIC=i82365
PCIC_OPTS=
CORE_OPTS=
CARDMGR_OPTS=
# If REFRAIN_FROM_IFUP is set to yes, cardmgr will not bring up
# network interfaces. They should be brought up by hotplug instead.
REFRAIN_FROM_IFUP=yes
-

Presumably removing the S13pcmciautils link is overkill, just setting
PCMCIA to 'no' would be enough to stop that module from loading.

I wonder why it is set to this in the first place, I surely don't have
any PCMCIA hardware ..

All that having been said though, I think it has been shown abundantly
now that loading the i82365 module causes the lockup.

[Bug 72521] Re: Kubuntu 6.06 Installer crashed on partitioning

2006-12-01 Thread Colin Watson
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 47194 ***

Thanks for your report, which is also bug 47194. The program used for
advanced partitioning, qtparted, appears to have crashed. The version of
the installer present in Kubuntu 6.06.1 deals with this more gracefully.
If you can reproduce the qtparted crash by running it directly from K
Menu - System, then please file a separate bug against qtparted.

[Bug 71592] Re: Installer Crashed

2006-12-01 Thread Colin Watson
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 47848 ***

Thanks for your report. Due to some reliability problems with GRUB and
XFS, you need to use a non-XFS root filesystem or create a non-XFS /boot
filesystem. The fact that the partitioner doesn't warn you about this
up-front is also bug 47848, and is fixed in 6.06.1.

[Bug 69831] Re: get libpthread assertion on multicore CPU

2006-12-01 Thread viraj
I too saw the similar error in Sun Fire T2000 with ubuntu 6.10, mysqld

mysqld: pthread_mutex_lock.c:108: __pthread_mutex_lock: Assertion
`mutex-__data.__owner == 0' failed.

and also with pthread_mutex_lock used programs in,
pthread_mutex_lock.c:80: __pthread_mutex_lock: Assertion `mutex-__data.__owner
== 0' failed.

##WORKAROUND

These errors are not seen with ubuntu6.06 release (I downgraded the libc
with ubuntu 6.06 libc package-libc6-sparcv9v_2.3.6-0ubuntu20_sparc.deb
and able to run mysql and other multithreaded programs without this
error)
