[Bug 43961] Fixed in Feisty?

2007-01-12 Thread Morgan Collett
Firstly, none of the workarounds listed above worked for me on my Sony
Vaio S460. Dapper could not power off or reboot, Edgy can reboot but not
power off.

However I've just tried Herd 1 Desktop CD and it did power off after a
LiveCD session.

Can anyone confirm this, preferably with an installation and not just
booting the Desktop CD?

Feisty of course has kernel 2.6.19 at the moment, and Herd 1 i386 runs
on linux-image-2.6.19-7-generic version 2.6.19-7.10.

[Bug 62316] Re: Provide GUI access to crash reports from root programs

2007-01-12 Thread Martin Pitt
This has been discussed on u-devel@, and the consensus was:

 * Change apport-checkreports to check for the existence of system
crash reports if the user is in 'admin', and have apport-gtk gksu
itself if there is a system crash report it cannot read. This would
be the safe option, but requires some ugly hardcoding of group
names and semantics into apport. However, this hardcoding could
eventually be moved into the update-notifier apport code (when
we'll finally get event-notifier, this will be much cleaner).

Re: [Bug 77438] Re: networking script does not wait for udev to settle

2007-01-12 Thread Matthias Urlichs
Hi,

Scott James Remnant:
   * Update patches:
 - 40-udevtrigger-filters.patch: dropped, the spirit of this patch is
merged upstream and we don't need most of it anymore.

Ah. OK.

In addition, now we're going for a completely event-driven boot, we
don't need to call settle either -- we won't be calling it in either the
 initramfs or main boot sequence.

IMHO you should have conflicted with the old initramfs utils.

Right now my boot is broken even after installing the new version
(can't find /dev/root). I'll investigate.

NB: debugging an initramfs is kindof difficult if one doesn't have a PS2
keyboard handy. It would be nice for USB keyboards to work during bootup ...

[Bug 64790] Re: tremulous-serve uses Full CPU

2007-01-12 Thread ParadigmX
I can confirm the same behavior on my Edgy install.

Tremulous-server is running in the background on each boot and system
monitor shows 100% CPU usage. When I run top, the tremulous-server
process comes up at 92% CPU usage every other second. I do not need to
run a dedicated tremulous server anyway, so I removed it. The game runs
fine.

[Bug 78910] Names of Edgy sounds are wrong

2007-01-12 Thread Elias Aarnio
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-sounds

The names of the different sounds do not describe the true nature of the
sounds correctly:

The problem gets worse when the names are translated into different
languages in localization process.

* Boing sounds like a high marimba note to me - more a click than a boing
* Siren sounds more like a faulty electrical starter of a car (hope no-one
has sirens like that)
* Clinck sounds like a bongo or djembe drum to me
* Beep sounds exactly like Clink

[Bug 74768] Re: No suspend in Acer Aspire 5601AWLMi on Herd 1

2007-01-12 Thread Erik Hill
Bug fix has no effect (does not change the wrong behavior of) the most
recent and updated version of linux-image on feisty (2.6.20-5). Suspend
still does the following:

Suspend,
Upon restore, light the harddrive busy light for 20-25 seconds, and then,
Do nothing. No backlight, no response of any kind.

This is identical behavior as to every previous version of linux-image
back to when I first used it on this computer (first release of Dapper).

[Bug 74190] Re: [feisty] [apt] command line apt-get/aptitude breaks update-manager

2007-01-12 Thread sardion
Problem persists.

I do not think it is the same as the other since there is no
segfaulting, just this empty extended_states file.

If no one can reproduce then I suspect it is an artifact of upgrading.
I did make the mistake(?) of upgrading to feisty but leaving edgy-
security in my sources. Everything is now up to date feisty but still
this problem.

I will attempt a clean install if no one else has this issue.

[Bug 66004] Re: .bash_profile is not sources when X session starts

2007-01-12 Thread Colin Watson
Since the default /bin/sh is dash nowadays, note that our Xsession
cannot safely source .bash_profile. Since .bash_profile sources .bashrc,
you can put everything there instead, and that will be sourced by
terminals started within X.

.pam_environment is also useful for simple unconditional setting of
environment variables that will be used in all login sessions.

[Bug 78810] Re: Ubuntu Feisty (Herd 2) -- x86 Desktop CD BAD install failure

2007-01-12 Thread moma
I have now installed Feisty by editing Edgy's /etc/apt/sources.list
where I replaced edgy with feisty and run sudo apt-get upgrade.

The old Ubiquity in /usr/lib/ubiquity was not upgraded so I did:
sudo apt-get remove ubiquity
sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubiquity

I have also taken backup copy og the old /usr/lib/ubiquity/ and
/usr/bin/ubiquity files. The old (Edgy's) Ubiquity runs 100% correctly.

Anyway,
I can now repeatedly recreate both error1) and 2) by running
sudo /usr/bin/ubiquity

I will debug the files in /usr/lib/ubiquity to find out what's wrong.
