[Bug 87459] Re: GL Desktop crashes on enabling

2007-03-12 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
gnome-compiz-manager (the package that provides GL Desktop) isn't an
Ubuntu package.

Secondly, the backtrace suggests that you've got the compiz-extra
plugins installed. If these are built against the wrong version of
compiz, they will crash compiz on startup. With the latest compiz and
compiz-extra packages from Universe (1:0.3.6-1ubuntu7 and 0.3.6.0-1 at
the moment) do you see the same crash?

[Bug 91114] Re: sshd and root access policy inconsistency

2007-03-12 Thread Anders S . Nordbø
Yes, that's true. There's no way anyone can log in as root while the
settings are set this way. It is however slightly confusing and
misleading to have PermitRootLogin set to yes by default. That's my
point.

[Bug 25931] Re: Failed to initalize HAL.

2007-03-12 Thread Martin Pitt
deuce, if 'dbus start' fails that way, then it is already running. The
easiest workaround is to just wait for some seconds at the login screen
before logging in. The correct way is to rename /etc/rc2.d/S20dbus to
/etc/rc2.d/S12dbus (this was recently done in Feisty).

If it does not even log in, please get .xsession-errors from your home
directory and attach it here (you can log in on a text console after
pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1).

[Bug 91564] UVF: glom 1.3.11 - 1.3.12

2007-03-12 Thread Daniel Holbach
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: glom

Please consider the following update:

glom (1.3.12-0ubuntu1) feisty; urgency=low

  * New upstream release:
- Users and Groups UI works with later versions of Postgres. (at least 8.2,
  and maybe = 8.0 had this problem)
- Disabled experimental Avahi support because it was unstable and not yet
  doing anything useful.
  * debian/control:
- dropped Build-Depends on libavahi-glib-dev.

[Bug 82286] Re: [apport] destar.py crashed with TypeError in file_input()

2007-03-12 Thread Albin Tonnerre
Given this part of the stacktrace:
File /var/lib/python-support/python2.5/quixote/ptl_compile.py, line 58, in
file_input
io_imp = ast.From(IO_MODULE, [(IO_CLASS, None)])
it seems that the bug is rather in python-quixote1, as this call does not
respect the compiler.ast.From.__init__() fonction prototype, which is def
__init__(self, modname, names, level (the missing one), lineno=None)
Cheers

2007-03-12 Thread Nicolas_Raoul
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: nautilus

  On an up-to-date Feisty
  Always reproducible, here are the steps:

  1) Open nautilus,
  2) Type ctrl-z,
  3) nautilus closes immediately.

  gdb says Program exited normally.
  Valgrind (as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valgrind) says nothing.
  When running it from a terminal, echo $? says 0.
  So I can't give much logs, I hope you guys can reproduce it at home.
-
- In case this is a feature, I think it is not a good idea, CTRL-Z is
- usually to cancel file operations, just like in Gedit, Konqueror or
- earlier Nautilus.
-
- ---
- Here are some other steps that I have been thinking are the source of the
problem, but after all it seems to be unrelated, keeping it just in case, but
it is probably useless:
- 1) Open nautilus,
- 2) Select a file with your mouse,
- 3) Type ctrl-c to copy it,
- 4) Type ctrl-v to paste it,
- 5) Type ctrl-z to cancel,
- 6) nautilus closes immediately.

[Bug 91469] Re: NO info showing on CHANGES tab in update manager

2007-03-12 Thread Sebastian Heinlein
You don't need to reinstall your machine because of every small error.

In the meantime you could install apt-listchanges. Run dpkg-reconfigure
apt-listchanges afterwards and choose to show changelog entires before
installing the packages.

Cheers,

Sebastian

[Bug 91004] Re: nmap wrongly reports host is blocking ping probes

2007-03-12 Thread Christof Krüger
Did you start nmap as unpriviledged user? Nmap does not use ICMP echo
requests when run as unpriviledged user, instead it sends a SYN packet
to port 80 of the target.

If you want to be sure to use icmp ping types, use the -PE, -PP and -PM
options of nmap and be sure to have the right priviledges.

[Bug 89338] Re: [Feisty] Creative Zen MicroPhoto detected as a camera

2007-03-12 Thread Marcus Meissner
gphoto2 can download and upload files to this device,
both images and music.

While it is not a camera, it is a MTP based player, and
it is fully supported by libgphoto2/gphoto2.

(perhaps it should not get detected as camera, but otherwise it is
fine.)

[Bug 89723] Re: PDA with memory card doesn't mount automatically

2007-03-12 Thread Martin Pitt
hal does not know anything about this drive:

  volume.label = ''  (string)
  volume.uuid = ''  (string)
  volume.fsversion = ''  (string)
  volume.fsusage = ''  (string)
  volume.fstype = ''  (string)
  storage.model = ''  (string)

Can you actually mount it manually? I. e. does

  sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt

work and give you the files in /mnt? (unmount it with 'sudo umount
/mnt').

If it fails, what is the output? What does 'sudo blkid' say?

[Bug 91515] Layouts

2007-03-12 Thread Nicolas_Raoul
It is always reproduceable, even after reboot.
Sebastian, from your questions I guess that it does not happen on your side ?
So it must be some special configuration on my side.

I didn't change any shortcut key bindings.
I have SCIM to occasionaly type Japanese characters.
On Friday my friend come over and she added a Japanese keybord layout, which I
unchecked a bit after. So now my layout look like:

Generic 105-key (Intl) PC
France (checked)
Japan (unchecked)
Separate group for each window (checked)

I have to go to work, this evening I will reset my keyboard layouts and
let you know.

[Bug 23267] Re: Default Hebrew fonts in Firefox are unreadable, ugly

2007-03-12 Thread Rich Wales
I've noticed some problems with the placement of vowel points when
Hebrew text is displayed in Firefox. For example, in the Wikipedia
article Keturah, the dot that indicates the u vowel is showing up to
the right of the letter vav (vertical line), whereas it ought to be
positioned to the left of the vav. (See attached screen shot.)

[Bug 23267] Re: Default Hebrew fonts in Firefox are unreadable, ugly

2007-03-12 Thread Rich Wales
Here's another example -- again from Wikipedia (article Mezuzah), but
using a different font. The vowel points are positioned completely
wrong -- appearing after (i.e., to the left of) the letters, whereas
most vowel points should appear under or over the letters. (See
attached screen shot.)

If you aren't familiar with Hebrew writing, you might want to look at
the Wikipedia article Niqqud for an explanation of how vowels are
indicated in certain texts.
