[Bug 106431] openoffice draw not enabled in menu
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org-draw Just wondering why openoffice-draw, though installed by default, is not found in the office menu, nor enabled? It is found in the graphics menu, but only if you use alacarte to enable it. Why would you disable the desktop application entry by default? I didn't even knew it existed, till i tried to install, and apt told me it was installed. I suppose having it in the graphics menu isn't irrational either, but it should at least be enabled by default. ** Affects: openoffice.org (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- openoffice draw not enabled in menu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106431 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 53923] Re: tifm: Texas Instruments Card reader not working
OK guys lets be clear If you have a TIFM reader that doesn't work with .7 tifm modules( standard 2.6.20) then unless you have A. compiled .8 following the instructions above or B. Switched over to the SDHCI module using the setpci command see above. Then as you don't have a working driver for your card the fact that auto mount is now fixed is of no use to you as you have nothing to mount. A quick check is run dmesg from a command prompt and see if your getting io errors when card inserted if you are you need to do a or b above. What would be nice is anyone using the setpci have to report if auto mount is now working, it should be as the fix was in the mmc core stuff. as far as I can see the only bug outstanding is that the stock tifm modules are broken and should be replaced with the tifm developer fixed version, Whether this should be done by the feisty developers I'm not sure as really its an upstream bug (fixed in 2.6.21). [Bug 3731] Re: Xorg can't load another resolution
It sounds like the problem here is that dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg is failing to generate correct information for the monitor section of the config file. In each user's case, the h/v frequencies were either missing or set incorrectly. Xorg had difficulty determining a proper mode to use, and fell back to 640x480. 3zero2, I suspect your issue is completely unrelated, since you are able to achieve 1024x768 unlike the original bug reporter. Many others have reported that Ubuntu's Xorg settings max out at 1024x768, so I think your issue is simply a duplicate of that one. Thanks for offering to collect more info, but I think this one is already sufficiently well reported. Public bug reported: All the disk utilities I have running under Edgy (Gnome) misread the free and used space on one partition in particular (a couple others are incorrect, too, but not by nearly as much). I haven't had any luck getting an answer on UbuntuForum.org. Here is the thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=372324 The main problem is: the partition (FAT32) is about 36 GB and I have over 21 GB of files on this partition. However, all the provided disk utilities plus an installed version of GParted show the used space as about 850MB and the free space as 35.3GB. The only exception is the property sheet in Nautilus which shows the used space correctly (21.1GB) but still shows the free space as 35.3 GB. I ran GParted from the Ubuntu LiveCD and it read the partition information correctly. Windows98 reads the partition correctly. I have no problems at this time reading or writing to this partition. I am concerned that problems could arise and would like to fix this. Screenshots and results of various commands are posted in the above link. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Disk utilities report incorrect used and free space https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106439 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 16887] Re: [i810] won't do lower modes on default laptop sync ranges
While this does seem to be the opposite of the more typically reported issue of higher resolutions not being available, the underlying cause might be the same. I suspect the issue is that the monitor's h/v frequences are not getting set up correctly in the xorg.conf file, and Xorg figures out some arbitrary resolution that happens to work, but other expected resolutions can't be seen. If this is true, then this bug is a dupe of 3731. The workaround is to a) manually update your xorg.conf and specify the horizontal and vertical sync freqs, and b) make sure the desired/supported resultions for your card are listed in the Mode lines. The proper solution to this bug will require additional research... -- [i810] won't do lower modes on default laptop sync ranges https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/16887 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 95880] Re: X.org randomly picks 800x600 on a monitor capable of doing 1024x768
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 3731 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/3731 Thanks for the bug report! While the symptoms are a little different, this appears to be a dupe of 3731. The root issue is that Ubuntu failed to detect the hsync and vrefresh freqs for your monitor, and since they weren't listed in the xorg conf file, Xorg made some incorrect assumptions about them. With this incomplete information, Xorg sometimes decides to use 1024x768, and other times 800x600. Notice in your xorg.conf file that the h/v rates aren't listed. A workaround would be to use the rates shown in your xresprobe tests (or look them up in your monitor's documentation) and add them to the monitor section of your xorg.conf file. A true solution would be to fix whatever misdetected your monitor in the first place; since that's the goal for bug 3731, I'm marking this a dupe of that one. Please let me know if you have more info or think I'm on the wrong track here. :-) ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 3731 Xorg resolution falling back to 640x480 when h/v freqs incorrect -- X.org randomly picks 800x600 on a monitor capable of doing 1024x768 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/95880 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 106442] PS/2 mouse keyboard not working
Public bug reported: Firstly, know that I am completely new to Linux. I am trying to install Ubuntu on a new desktop. I downloaded the Live CD (6.10) burned it. Booted with it, then I get the boot menu (install, safe mode, test mem etc). I then continue with the first option booting live to install. After Ubuntu loads (to where I can see the Install icon) there is no response from either the keyboard or the mouse (bith PS/2). The only thing I can do is press the power button, but keyboard and mouse still doesn't work, so I can't even shut down properly. Reset is then the only option. [Bug 85488] Re: Canon Lide25 (plustek backend) scanner does not scan via gui
Workaround to enable GUI tools: I can use the command line workaround mentioned earlier, but it isn't acceptable for the rest of my family. I have written a short shell script that prods the scanner every second and stops after around 15-20 minutes. This enables the standard GUI scanner utitlities (Kooka and so on) to work. Apologies for the quality of the solution, as I am far from a skilled technical type, however I don't think anyone is likely to sort this problem out so close to release. 1. Find the device using lsusb: for me: Bus 001 Device 004: ID 04a9:220d Canon, Inc. CanoScan N670U/N676U/LiDE 20 so my scanner is on bus 001, device 004 - these numbers are used in the wake-up script as follows: #!/bin/sh echo prodding scanner begins ... for i in `seq 1 1000`; do cat /dev/bus/usb/001/004 /dev/null sleep 1 done echo scanner is now having a nice rest... save the above as scantouch.sh. Activate the script by typing sh scantouch.sh - while the script is running (around 17 minutes max), the GUI scanner utilities can be used. Thanks to this horrible hack, my wife is able to get on with her work, and my ears no longer ring!
