[Bug 50524] Re: Moving file into home folder (launcher) created from places doesn't work

2007-04-16 Thread -JojoMan-
I'm sorry but i still believe this should be default behavior. Most
users don't know when they create .desktop files or launchers and just
expect things to Just Work. I know perhaps this is a lot of work but
it should be the default action when the .desktop file launches a
folder. Either this or when copying home from the places menu should
active the nautilus gconf string to show home folder on desktop. The
best option is to make even launchers of folders copyable to.

[Bug 50524] Re: Moving file into home folder (launcher) created from places doesn't work

2007-04-16 Thread -JojoMan-
Even if it is a launcer of a folder a user expects that if he drags a
file into it, the most logical thing to do is move those files to the
place the .desktop file points to (the folder).

Sometimes users don't care if it's a symlink or launhcer or .desktop
file / etc. They just want to be able to drag files into their home
folder (even if it is a launcher etc).

[Bug 106930] Audacity crashes unexpectedly

2007-04-16 Thread David Gwilliam
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: audacity

Obviously all crashes are unexpected, but Audacity crashes occasionally
with no apparent cause; doing something it had done a moment ago, for
example, without any trouble.

I was editing a multitrack project (imported ogg track plus recordings
from the microphone). I generated a tone, undid it and generated it into
a new track, then undid all that and tried to generate it into the
imported ogg track again, and Audacity dumped. Everything (all ten
minutes of work) was unsaved. Blah.

[Bug 106427] Re: keyboard timing is broken

2007-04-16 Thread OuchOfDeath
I've encountered the same bug. However I've been running Ubuntu (Kubuntu
more specifically) since Dapper and have not had this problem. This bug
just came up around a week ago in Fiesty.

The thing is it happens completely randomly. I'll be doing something on
the computer and suddenly the bug appears, and then any key I press
takes forever to respond. I have to hold the key down for almost 2
seconds to get it to respond.

I also noticed that if I CLTR+ALT+F1 into a terminal then this bug stops
affecting me, but if I go back into the xserver session then the bug
reapears again.

[Bug 103133] Re: strace leaves process SIGSTOPped after detaching

2007-04-16 Thread Micah Cowan
wait() doesn't have meaning for separate threads; only for processes.
Additionally, it is not possible to run strace, except as a separate
(child) process. And, while proc does /represent/ an interface to the
child, it's still the parent that is doing the wait()ing, upon its child
(which is the strace process). It seems to me that the man page is
highly relevant; but I'm happy to wait for a second opinion.

As to reliably tracing oneself, you might try a method that would
involve killing the strace process (SIGTERM, probably), instead of
waiting for it to complete (which will cause strace to SIGSTOP the
parent).

[Bug 106932] installing linux-source-2.6.20 dumps the compressed version

2007-04-16 Thread shirishag75
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20

 Hi all,
I did an aptitude install linux-source-2.6.20 it dumps the
2.6.20-tar.bz2 . When instead it should be making a folder linux-soure- 2.6.20
(the extraction should be done by default or alternatively have both) . For
newbies this is a blocker as they do not have the expertise of doing something
like that. Also most of the guides give reference to just using the source file
not the added extraction step (if that is necessary or is the default
behavior while installing linux-source-2.6.20) thank you for your time.

Installed Feisty beta using the x86 alternate CD as the LiveCD crashes at

[Bug 37527] Re: Unable to install initramfs-tools in Dapper 64

2007-04-16 Thread oblemboy
I am having the same problem. Similar hardware to Roberto, _not_ AMD64
Athlon XP 2500+ on an Asus A7N8 nForce2 with 512 MB RAM
update-initramfs sits there doing nothing, making it impossible to complete an
upgrade with apt-get. Killing the post-install script which starts
update-initramfs results in
Errors were encountered while processing:
 volumeid
 udev
 grub
 initramfs-tools
 console-setup
 kubuntu-artwork-usplash
 kubuntu-desktop
update-initramfs seems to be started by the post-install scripts for a few of
these packages it mentions. Hmmm, I hope this thing reboots ok now... :-S

[Bug 106935] Vice Emulator only shows blank screen

2007-04-16 Thread Mgoerner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vice

When starting x64 or xpet the area where the screen should appear keeps black.
In x64, I can go right mouse click-VIC-II settings-Hardware scaling and then
see the good old Commodore 64 screen: apparently the normal rendering doesn't
work but the one through the XVideo extension does.
I get errors like:
XCreateImage failed. or Unknown resource type for `ChargenName'
The first error is apparently coming from the file
src/arch/unix/x11/xaw/uicolor.c but I am not good with X internals.

[Bug 106863] Re: Upgrade tool crashed

2007-04-16 Thread Gavrie Philipson
The problem is that the code tries to convert a string that's already
Unicode to Unicode.

Proposed fix:
Change the function utf8 in DistUpgradeViewKDE.py to something like this:

def utf8(str):
  if isinstance(str, unicode):
return str
  return unicode(str, 'UTF-8')

[Bug 106937] depmod isn't run when built with m-a

2007-04-16 Thread David MacKinnon
Public bug reported:

When the pwc-modules deb is built from pwc-source using module-
assistant, _KVERS_ is not substituted in the postinst. It's just left as

 if [ `uname -r` = _KVERS_ ] ; then
depmod -a
fi

Which of course is never true. Does this test actually achieve much? (ie
is it harmful to run depmod on the current kernel?) Or can something in
rules make sure _KVERS_ is substituted properly?

This happens when building on edgy and dapper.

[Bug 106932] Re: installing linux-source-2.6.20 dumps the compressed version

2007-04-16 Thread David Symons
This is standard behaviour for linux-source packages and hence is not a
bug.

Installing the kernel source is not really a newbie activity and
knowing how to uncompress the file isn't a bad aptitude test before any
kernel modification/compilation is attempted.

it appears that Nikon drivers are missing from libgphoto2.2 but perhaps
I am wrong.

[Bug 106755] Re: Latest updates for Edgy broke my sound (HDA Intel)

2007-04-16 Thread Jun-Dai
It appears that the problem may have been in part due to the fact that I
had manually installed the 1.0.13 Alsa drivers from source. When I
installed the 1.0.14 drivers from source, the problem went away, which
corresponds to the solution that other people in the forums are
reporting as having worked.

[Bug 106028] Re: Kvm not installable in feisty

2007-04-16 Thread LosD
I'm not sure if it really is bitching, the point is that the major deep
freeze is closing, and if it wasn't fixed, then one of the goals for
Feisty would be gone.

On the other hand, I'm pretty sure that the reason for it not being
changed to a show stopper, was that the ones to decide on release
blockers probably are working normal hours, and it wasn't confirmed
until friday evening...

[Bug 63090] Re: do not eject all USB/Firewire devices

2007-04-16 Thread Alex Murray
@Sander50: What workaround??

@pitti: In general I think it *doesn't* work fine to eject all usb
devices - especially external USB hard drives - flash drives seem to
work okay - except they can't be remounted afterwards and need to be
physically removed and reinserted first - but I have an external hard
drive which at the moment can't even be ejected - and the same is
occurring for anumber of other users - see bug #99498 - which is a
pretty bad regression as they can only me unmounted / ejected from the
command-line

So I agree - in general we should only eject those devices which NEED
ejection - ipods and the like - but those which can be happily unmounted
- usb flash and hard drives to name a few - should NOT require eject...

[Bug 103781] Re: [Feisty] Network Manager can't associate WEP even right passphrase is given

2007-04-16 Thread professordes
I am also unable to associated with a WEP passphrase secured network (with
updates from circa 13/04) with the network manager.
The machine is an IBM X21 with using the bcm43xx driver on a Belkin pcmcia
card. This applies both in the automatic and managed modes. There is no problem
with WPA networks.

The machine will associate to the network ap but fails to pick up an ip
address. It then repeatedly recycles through disconnecting and asking
for the passphrase.

2007-04-16 Thread Anders Kaseorg

[Bug 92091] Re: Unsafe device removal warning pops-up after resuming from suspend

2007-04-16 Thread Huygens
Just wanted to let you know that the bug is still present with Kernel
2.6.20-15

As I mentioned earlier, if I'm booting with kernel 2.6.20-9 I do not
have the problem.

I just wanted to let you know that I did not have the issue for more
than a week (at least, can't remember exactly) now. Though, I did not
use it as much as before.

[Bug 15398] Re: toshiba satellite 4600 runs at half cpu speed

2007-04-16 Thread John Steele Scott
I'm pretty sure that after I updated this laptop to Breezy and then
Dapper there was no problem. The machine is no longer in use; Dapper was
the last OS I tried on it.

** Changed in: laptop-detect (Ubuntu)
Status: Needs Info = Fix Released
