[Bug 108818] Join/leave messages make chatrooms with many members almost unreadable
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xchat-gnome When joinging a large Chat-Room (such as #ubuntu or #ubuntu-release- party) the discussion gets totally bogged down by the join leave messages. So if more than 1000 members are in a chatroom sometimes more than 7 of 10 messages are just join/leave which leaves much less room to the alreaddy fast moving ocnversation and makes it very difficult to follow it. Other irc-clients have a sort of conference mode for this, so that if a room contians more than N members, they stop showing the join/leave messages. I'd like that. :) Good numbers for N could be either 10, 30 or 60 members, though that could also be determined empirically, that is the number of members to a chatroom when the join / leave messages start to get more on the nerves than they are usefull. :) Martin ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 Date: Sun Apr 22 09:22:48 2007 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 7.04 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/xchat-gnome Package: xchat-gnome 1:0.16-0ubuntu3 PackageArchitecture: i386 ProcCmdline: xchat-gnome ProcCwd: /home/dwt ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=de_DE:de:en_GB:en PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: xchat-gnome Uname: Linux dwts-laptop 2.6.20-15-generic #2 SMP Sun Apr 15 07:36:31 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux ** Affects: xchat-gnome (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Join/leave messages make chatrooms with many members almost unreadable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108818 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 108191] Re: Cannot run 2.6.20-15 kernel nvidia driver on my AMD64 computer. 2.6.20-14 modules work well
It was an upgrade from Edgy but awhile ago when Feisty was just Beta1. I didn't use 3rd party tools. And I'm still able to run restricted nvidia driver under 2.6.20-14. cat /etc/default/linux-restricted-modules-common # This file is sourced from the linux-restricted-modules-common init # script and is used to disable the link-on-boot feature, one module # at a time. This can be useful if you want to use hand-compiled # versions of one or more modules, but keep linux-restricted-modules # installed on your system, or just to disable modules you don't use # and speed up your boot process by a second or two. # # Use a space-separated list of modules you wish to not have linked # on boot. The following example shows a (condensed) list of all # modules shipped in the linux-restricted-modules packages: # # DISABLED_MODULES=ath_hal fc fglrx ltm nv # # Note that disabling fc disables all fcdsl drivers, ltm disables # ltmodem and ltserial, and nv disables both the nvidia drivers. # You can also name each module individually, if you prefer a subset. [Bug 106434] Re: 2.6.20-15-generic breaks X when using NVIDIA-glx drivers
Doh, I've only just realised that you said you manually installed the nvidia drivers at some point in the past: Actually even vanilla Nvidia driver from nvidia installer does not load with -15. Manually running modprobe nvidia gives FATAL: could not run install command for module or such. I wish I'd spotted this sooner because as soon as you go the manual route any problems that arise may be beyond Ubuntu's control and you are better off reporting issues to NVIDIA via http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=14 . The fact that the lowlatency kernel works but the regular kernel doesn't suggests the manual binary driver install has overwritten/created a kernel module that interferes with the default Ubuntu provided kernel module. If the X server works with the binary driver after doing: rmmod nvidia modprobe nvidia_new Then that will confirm the problem and there might be a way to use the default Ubuntu modules again. -- 2.6.20-15-generic breaks X when using NVIDIA-glx drivers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106434 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 106864] Re: Feisty boot fail can't access tty IDE SATA problem
I have followed Ben's advice, using modprobe piix, and got Feisty installed on my parallels guest (in a mac mini). After rebooting to the installed system (again using modprobe piix) I put piix into the initramfs modules file and ran the update. On the next reboot I am still prompted by busybox and still have to do modprobe piix to boot. The entry is in the modules file so I suspect initramfs is not using the modules file at the point it prompts. This problem needs an urgent fix since it seems to affect quite a number of different systems. On the face of it the kernel was built with piix as a module, rather than built-in. -- Feisty boot fail can't access tty IDE SATA problem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106864 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
