[Bug 108775] Re: Problems with screen resolution after installing proprietary nVIDIA drivers

2007-04-22 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
This is probably a dup of other nvidia resolution bugs like Bug #91292
. The nvidia binary drivers seem to be rather weak at correctly
detecting the correct monitor refresh ranges when compared to the open
source nv driver...

[Bug 93579] Re: [nvidia-glx-legacy] Screen Resolution is less than before

2007-04-22 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Since there are lots of bugs already about the nvidia binary drivers
defaulting to a low resolution when HorizSync/VertRefresh are not
present in xorg.conf (e.g. bug #91292 ) I shall speculatively file this
against the open source nv driver since that usually works correctly for
every one else.

Ok, that fixed the X module/kernel module mismatch problem (indeed, it
was exactly the same as the bug you quoted).

Now the NVidia binary can start, but only at 640x480, as before.
Manually editing and adding resolutions to xorg.conf doesn't work. Nor
does disabling EDID probing, that has no effect...

2007-04-22 Thread Lesmond74
I have this problem as well. I'm running Ubuntu Feisty AMD64 and have a
2 sound card setup. Card 0 is a HDA Digital X-Mystique 7.1 (based on the
C-Media CMI8768 MC8 chipset), and card 1 is an old SB Ensoniq Audio PCI,
which also uses a Sigmatel chipset like the OP's card above. The C-Media
card doesn't have anything to do with the error, only the SB card and
its 'invalid character' is mentioned. Attached is the full error
message, which is the same as the above, apart from the different
chipset (it's in German too, btw). The application still works despite
this error.

[Bug 108807] ndiswrapper driver not killed

2007-04-22 Thread Tan Siong Hua
Public bug reported:

I am using ndiswrapper in Feisty to install the driver for Engenius EUB-862
(Atheros ar5523 chipset) and I got it connected to a WPA network using Wicd.
However if I restart the adapter will not be available in XP and Feisty,
however if I disconnect and reconnect it again it will work in XP, but in
Feisty the system will freeze. If I shutdown the system before power it up
again all will be right. Looks like ndiswrapper did not terminate/release the
adapter properly when the system is restarted.
Although it works alright there is still a small glitch. The adapter will
not be available when the computer is restarted but if I shut it down before
starting again it works ok.
The adapter light will still blink but will not be detected by any OS (not
working either in Feisty or XP), but in XP I can disconnect it and reconnect
back and it works, but in Feisty if I disconnect it Feisty will freeze. How do
I disable it before disconnecting it?

btw, when I say the app 'works', I mean I can still adjust the sound

warning of waiting for network connection. I have to disable and
reenable my account before i can log in.

[Bug 108812] Possible memory leak? gome-panel is a memory hog

2007-04-22 Thread Spoilerhead
Public bug reported:

let gnome panel run for several hours and it gets bigger and bigger

11c0a8000900011732561150088130005 --screen 0

its currently at around 320 MB virtual and 292 MB physical

after a killall gnome-panel:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ps aux |grep gnome-panel

back at around 50MB virtual and 23 MB physical
so .. where does the difference of about 250MB come frome?

This just happens in feisty, never happened in edgy, dapper, breezy and

OK let's see if we can take a hybrid approach this problem. Could you attach
your current /etc/X11/xorg.conf , then could you back it up and attach the
xorg.conf generated by sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg here too. Copy the
old working configuration back and I'll see if I can synthesize a new config
for you to test with from the result...

[Bug 108811] 7.04 Unable to play rmvb files correctly

2007-04-22 Thread LMTDreamer
Public bug reported:

I upgrade 6.10 to 7.04 online. After upgrade, I can not play rmvb movie
files by totem-xine correctly. The movie is played, with no sound.

Have tried replacing totem-xine by totem-gstreamer and all suggested
packages installed as well.

Still, totem-gstreamer can not play rmvb files. It will ask to install
some package, but the package it indicated after search, gstreamer-
ffmpeg, already installed.

Using MPlayer (from menu list, the command is gmplayer) can not play the
file, too.

On the countrary, in terminal, type [player movie.rmvb] can play the
rmvb file.

It seems that since mplayer can play the file, all necessary codec
should be installed. mplayer and gmplayer seems to be the same, when I
[man mplayer] or [man gmplayer], the same thing showed in the terminal.

[Bug 108619] Re: Total crash of OS when starting Scorched 3D (again)

2007-04-22 Thread Nicolai
I had been playing Wormux earlier in that session, as well as Supertux,
but they had been closed for a while when I started Scorched 3d. I know
that I hadn't played any other games at least one of the two times where
the computer crashed in edgy. A friend had tried opening it while I was
getting some lunch between classes, so the only other program (apart
from Klipper, Kmix etc.) opened that session was Openoffice.

The computer became completely unresponsive, but the screen moved
between being a complete black, black with a stuck cursor and black with
a small, distorted white box close to the center of the screen.

[Bug 104521] Re: nautilus/bonobo problem after X server restart in feisty

2007-04-22 Thread Yuri Aoki.Hidan.Lucifiel
All right, I managed to resolve the issue by creating a new user(gave
the user full admin permissions) and by doing chown + chmod.

A big thanks goes to the fine folks at #ubuntuforums-beginners for
helping me pull through.

According to Shirish, a friend of mine, attaching my ./gnome and
./gnome2 directories might prove useful so here they are in .tar.bz2

[Bug 108817] libsundials-serial-dev is missing a crucial header file

2007-04-22 Thread John Pye
Public bug reported:

The package is missing the file /usr/include/nvector_serial.h. Without
this file, it's not possible to compile against this library.

I note that the problem has been fixed in the new Feisty package.

It would be really great if the new SUNDIALS 2.3.0 could be packaged --
there have been many API changes that make backporting to this old
version a bit tedious.

Cheers

[Bug 108818] Join/leave messages make chatrooms with many members almost unreadable

2007-04-22 Thread Martin Häcker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xchat-gnome

When joinging a large Chat-Room (such as #ubuntu or #ubuntu-release-
party) the discussion gets totally bogged down by the join leave
messages.

So if more than 1000 members are in a chatroom sometimes more than 7 of
10 messages are just join/leave which leaves much less room to the
alreaddy fast moving ocnversation and makes it very difficult to follow
it.

Other irc-clients have a sort of conference mode for this, so that if a
room contians more than N members, they stop showing the join/leave
messages. I'd like that. :)

Good numbers for N could be either 10, 30 or 60 members, though that
could also be determined empirically, that is the number of members to a
chatroom when the join / leave messages start to get more on the nerves
than they are usefull.

[Bug 108191] Re: Cannot run 2.6.20-15 kernel nvidia driver on my AMD64 computer. 2.6.20-14 modules work well

2007-04-22 Thread SergeyS
It was an upgrade from Edgy but awhile ago when Feisty was just Beta1. I didn't
use 3rd party tools.
And I'm still able to run restricted nvidia driver under 2.6.20-14.

cat /etc/default/linux-restricted-modules-common
# This file is sourced from the linux-restricted-modules-common init
# script and is used to disable the link-on-boot feature, one module
# at a time. This can be useful if you want to use hand-compiled
# versions of one or more modules, but keep linux-restricted-modules
# installed on your system, or just to disable modules you don't use
# and speed up your boot process by a second or two.
#
# Use a space-separated list of modules you wish to not have linked
# on boot. The following example shows a (condensed) list of all
# modules shipped in the linux-restricted-modules packages:
#
# DISABLED_MODULES=ath_hal fc fglrx ltm nv
#
# Note that disabling fc disables all fcdsl drivers, ltm disables
# ltmodem and ltserial, and nv disables both the nvidia drivers.
# You can also name each module individually, if you prefer a subset.

[Bug 106434] Re: 2.6.20-15-generic breaks X when using NVIDIA-glx drivers

2007-04-22 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Doh, I've only just realised that you said you manually installed the nvidia
drivers at some point in the past:
Actually even vanilla Nvidia driver from nvidia installer does not load with
-15. Manually running modprobe nvidia gives FATAL: could not run install
command for module or such. I wish I'd spotted this sooner because as soon as
you go the manual route any problems that arise may be beyond Ubuntu's control
and you are better off reporting issues to NVIDIA via
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=14 .

The fact that the lowlatency kernel works but the regular kernel doesn't
suggests the manual binary driver install has overwritten/created a kernel
module that interferes with the default Ubuntu provided kernel module. If the X
server works with the binary driver after doing:
rmmod nvidia
modprobe nvidia_new
Then that will confirm the problem and there might be a way to use the default
Ubuntu modules again.

[Bug 108823] vim doesn't recognize UUID labels in fstab

2007-04-22 Thread Mathias Hasselmann
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vim

Vim supports syntax highlighting for /etc/fstab, but displays UUID
mounted devices as error:

UUID=d3f9559a-0056-4942-ab3c-475883712f19   /
ext3 defaults,errors=remount-ro 0 1

The device part of this line is shown with white text on red background.
To work arround this, I have a fstab.vim file in my ~/.vim/after/syntax/
folder. The file has this content:

syn keyword fsDeviceKeyword contained UUID nextgroup=fsDeviceUUID
syn match fsDeviceUUID contained /=[^ \t]\+/hs=s+1 contains=fsOperator
hi def link fsDeviceUUID String

Those entries should be merged into
/usr/share/vim/vim70/syntax/fstab.vim:

[Bug 81170] Re: [feisty] etodo conduit times out when syncing with a palm device

2007-04-22 Thread richaoj
Broken with a TX as well. Does anyone have a workaround? perhaps
loading the old Etodo conduit which worked fine for me for a long time
in dapper and edgy?

[Bug 108825] Feisty not proper shutdown

2007-04-22 Thread Aramil
Public bug reported:

I have a desktop computer P4 1,5 Ghz, 512RAM and 2 IDE HDDs.

I recently installed Feisty Fawn and since then when I shut down,
instead of hearing each HDD turn off properly and after this the whole
computer, now everything shuts down at once like a hard power off.I can
even hear my HDs spinning down, which is probably not normal.

I have used Ubuntu 5.10, 6.06, 6.10, Arch Linux and Windows on this
computer and never encountered such a problem.

[Bug 106864] Re: Feisty boot fail can't access tty IDE SATA problem

2007-04-22 Thread Peter T Hayward
I have followed Ben's advice, using modprobe piix, and got Feisty installed on
my parallels guest (in a mac mini). After rebooting to the installed system
(again using modprobe piix) I put piix into the initramfs modules file and ran
the update. On the next reboot I am still prompted by busybox and still have to
do modprobe piix to boot. The entry is in the modules file so I suspect
initramfs is not using the modules file at the point it prompts.
This problem needs an urgent fix since it seems to affect quite a number of
different systems.
On the face of it the kernel was built with piix as a module, rather than
built-in.
