[Bug 111576] Re: NO ACPI FAN CONTROL AMD ATHLON64
I'm a sucker for punishment so I looked around for a document that gave me every possible command line parameter that I could pass to the Kernel (Why is it that the 2.6.20 kernel is still saying to pass pci parameter over the command line when I read that those don't work any more with Kernel 2+ anyways) Anyway, I tried a whole bunch of commands... most of them to do with ACPI since that is where my problem is. I passed acpi_fake_ecdt on boot and I can confirm that there is an audible difference in my fan speed. Without being able to physically verify it I have to go by the sound it makes but I am VERY sure it is going faster now. There still is no control over the fan speed thermal sensors but a faster fan will keep my system a little bit cool, I hope. I have another laptop with an AMD processor in it that has the same problem, I will boot it with this parameter as well and see if I get a faster rate. Nothing seems broken either, sound, video, frequency stepping and WLan all still seem to work fine. Ubuntu does not include the broadcom driver for differing reasons. To get that card work, just sudo apt-get install bcm43xx-fwcutter The 2.6.21 kernel seems to have additional options for powermac thermal, or perhaps an updated driver? [Bug 49901] Re: Katapult slows down to a near crawl when amarok is open
I'd suggest that this feature could be useful and possibly speedy if it was searching for Albums rather than just singles. The number of characters before search has been moved back to 1 character in Feisty, so whom ever makes this call isn't interested that by default Katapult is rendered useless by this catalogue which is a pity as otherwise it is such a good tool. A nice way to make it semi-fixed (apart from turn off the catalogue) is to use Mysql (or Postgres - I get better responses from Mysql) and the speed is enhanced quite a lot even with a small collection like mine of 300 albums/5500 tracks. -- Katapult slows down to a near crawl when amarok is open https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/49901 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Team, which is a bug contact for katapult in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 39315] Keyboard random repeat and dropped key presses: possible solution
I have had the same problem in to two different setups and here is what solved the problem for me: 1) Ubuntu 6.10 in VM-Ware Player 2) Ubuntu 7.04 on AMD64 X2 on Mainboard Asus M2N-E Same behaviour on both, so I guess the hardware details are not so important. The Problem appeared from one day to the next without any change in the system. I tried Rebooting, on the AMD64 as that had helped in the VM-WarePlayer, but no success. But rebooting keeps several components of the PC unter power. You can see several LEDs still bright while Computer is switched off. So I shut down the computer and pulled the Plug for several seconds. All the LED were dark then (of cause :-). Reconnect to power and switch on and... the problem was gone. So maybe there is an issue in the keyboard driver not initializing enough registers at startup? If they contain a wrong value for some resaon, you cannot get it out be reloading the driver or rebooting the computer. [Bug 43324] Re: There is no 64 bit package available.
Having recently obtained access to a 64 bit virtual machine, I was able to attempt making a proper 64 bit package today. I combined elements of Chris Halse Rogers hack with an email I got from Ken Geis. I'll be uploading the 64 bit packages for Feisty to the winehq APT repository sometime tomorrow for proper testing. Hopefully they'll soon be able to make their way into backports. As for \sh's concerns about Wine being built as a 32 bit application, don't fret: the upstream plan is for Wine to ALWAYS support 32 bit applications. Once win64 is working properly, Wine will be built with both 64 bit and 32 bit library support. For this reason there's no need for a separate 32 bit Wine package, as such a package will ultimately just be a subset of the 64 bit one (when it actually can be made to work upstream).
