[Bug 115726] sane and scanimage crash in Feisty but not in 6.06
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libsane scanimage (root or user) gives segmentation fault (core dumped) After I click Acquire Scan in Xsane it closes. Xsane says my Scanner is Hauppage WinTV! When I change the configuration file (?) to Epson V750 and save it it doesn't stay but comes back as Hauppage. I am using a firewire interface card and cord. This setup worked in 6.06 but after I upgraded to 7.04 it didn't work anymore. [Bug 115730] at-spi-registerd process is blocking GNOME Panel Selections
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: at-spi After login, I was able to select GNOME menu items from the menu panel, but their corresponding applications wouldn't come up. I wanted to restart, but each time I'd click on System | Quit in the GNOME menu, nothing would happen. Also, another unusual symptom that was occurring during this time was that the (I don't know what you call it -- that box that you see when the music starts playing after you login) box wouldn't go away. It was stuck at the middle of the screen. Finally, I looked at the system monitor and noticed a process called at-spi-registerd. I thought it was a suspicious name, so I killed it. Believe it or not, everything started working again. As a matter of fact, all those failed menu selections began to be activated all at once. The quit screen opened 5 times or more (the number of times I attempted to restart the machine). It seems like at-spi-registerd was blocking a queue (of menu selections that I'd made in the GNOME menu) from being processed. GNOME was queuing up all those menu selections, but not performing them immediately. Killing at-spi-registerd released the blockage. I hope someone understands why this happened and how to fix it. http://www.lonniebest.com/News/ ** Affects: at-spi (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- at-spi-registerd process is blocking GNOME Panel Selections https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/115730 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 106129] Re: WPA2 Personal wireless networks don't work without manual configuration
Confirming the original report - I think. It took me quite some time to figure out how to get WPA working. What I find is that both knetworkmanager (and nm-applet) show my WPA access point as WEP at first, as does iwlist wlan0 scan. If I select that network both tools will prompt me for a WEP password. However, if I explicitly start wpa_supplicant (which is not initially running) and ask it to do a scan on wlan0, it finds that my access point is WPA, and from that point on both knetworkmanager and nm-applet show the correct encryption type. My present workaround is to select Connect to Other Wireless Network from the knetworkmanager menu, and spell out all the details of the connection explicitly - but that contradicts users' expectations that they should be able to pick a network, type their password, and be connected. It sounds like future versions of NetworkManager use wpa_supplicant directly for scanning, so moving forward on the version might be a good solution. -- WPA2 Personal wireless networks don't work without manual configuration https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106129 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 83229] Re: could not close window with ctrl-W until I clicked on the background
I note this behavior on some pages that have flash content. It's as if the flash applet has the focus and the parent tab (window) doesn't see the CTRL+W keypress. In addition CTRL+W doesn't work if the page has not yet loaded. For example I have a bookmark folder that has a number of sites listed, I open all of them in tabs (only about 6 pages) then read them and close them as I go with CTRL+W. If i get to a tab that is having a problem due to the server not responding, CTRL+W does nothing. I have to press ESC to stop that tab from attempting to load, then press CTRL+W to close it. I was going to report this as a separate bug, but it seems related to this one. -- could not close window with ctrl-W until I clicked on the background https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/83229 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: When I suspend (s3/sleep) and then wake up, my wireless is no longer working. Its on (lit) but does not work, possibly a DHCP problem. 02:05.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter (rev 04) I've tried unloading and reloading the ipw2100 module and this turns the LED for the wireless on and off, but doesn't help. [Bug 106776] Distros in which it should work
Hi! I'm actually also a bit fed up with regressions in Ubuntu, I don't know if it's any worse than other distros, because I've mosly used just Ubuntu/Kubuntu, but I fear that the tight release schedule might let a lot of bugs slip through. I think the scanner could work in Debian Etch. Or then ju just throw in Feisty or Dapper and you'll be fine for sure. (But at least in Edgy you'll need to hold down the mousebutton for about 5sec when clicking aquire preview or scan.) I can actually also confirm that it worked under KDE in OpenSUSE 10.2 (probably works in GNOME too), but the default scanning tool in OpenSUSE/KDE was a bit too simple for my taste, and gave me a rather bluish picture. cheers, Simon On Sunday 20 May 2007 11:01:31 der_vegi wrote: I've got the same scanner using it under Feisty i386. scanimage -L gives me a Segmentation fault (core dumped). [Bug 115102] Re: [edgy - feisty] no more display with nvidia drivers, can't switch to console
Rominet: Interesting... You are running a 386 kernel on what must be be i586 or later hardware (which CPU/motherboard do you have?). You may find you get a speed boost (or maybe just new problems) if you install linux-image-generic which should be a better match for your hardware (you will also need to install linux-restricted-modules-generic ). Is there any change? -- [edgy - feisty] no more display with nvidia drivers, can't switch to console https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/115102 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 107391] Re: scim-anthy does not work and make any application which uses it hang
Ming Hua wrote: Hi David, I need a clarification about the situation -- does XIM mode work for you? To test, modify you .xsession (as you seem to be using .xsession) to add: XMODIFIERS=@im=SCIM GTK_IM_MODULE=xim export XMODIFIERS export GTK_IM_MODULE scim -d And then restart X. Now in GTK apps such as gedit, you should see X Input Method selected in the right-click menu. Now if scim still doesn't work, we can continue to investigate the socket issue. I did that, except that I set the env variables in a terminal (I removed my .xsession file first, of course), and it does what it is supposed to do (that is if I choose the input system, xim is set as a default). Note that I still somtimes problems with software (they launch but hang; it hangs at a different system call, though, according to strace for the launched application). Anyway, when I want to use japanese input (anthy system), it still fails when I try to convert the kana to kanji. I have to confess though I am a bit confused: what does it mean to set XMODIFIERS to SCIM, but GTK_IM_MODULE to xim ? What is the connection between scim and xim ? (I thought scim was a better xim, eg they provide the same functionality). As for the debug package, sorry scim still doesn't provide a debug symbol package yet. I'd like to give you a package to test with debug symbol included (maybe also a new upstream version), but let's clarify some things first. I tried to install it by myself from sources, but there seems to be a bug in they autoconf/automake scripts which prevents me from installing it in my $HOME (I do not have root access to this machine).
