[Bug 120342] If using XGL+Beryl, some java window cannot show its menu.

2007-06-14 Thread Xing Dongsheng
Public bug reported:

I am using 7.04 x86_64. I started XGL+Beryl in GNOME. If I start some
Java-based GUI window (Such as Matlab 2007a for Linux), then the Java-based GUI
window 's menu is shown as a blank area without any menu text. If I click mouse
on the position of menu (such as file), then the menu list could be shown and
every menu item is valid. Though the bug does not effect using Java-window too
much, but I still wish this bug can be fixed.

2. Pick any category such as Getting started.
3, Click on any Mirror 1 icon.
4. Wait for video to load and start playing in Mozilla Firefox.
5. Click on playback time slider near bottom of window.
6. Attempt to move the slider control the playback.
7. No movement happens.

Is it the same in any browser?

Tell me what browsers do you want me to test in Ubuntu?

[Bug 120343] [gutsy]gnome-session-properties crashes trying to enable beagle search tool

2007-06-14 Thread Thomas Wolfe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

Well, I just installed beagle (used to use tracker, but tracker was not finding
all my files [eg, wanted to find some files with the title Stone Temple Pilots
in the actual file name, searching for Stone found nothing, but searching for
Pilots found it, possible separate bug, idk]) and when i drop down from places
to search, it still brings up the old gnome-search (and yes, the beagle daemon
is running) so I checked out Sessions and sure enough beagle-search --icon (aka
beagle search tool) is not enabled. So I click the checkbox to enable it and
it crashes. beagle-search --icon works on it's own, just won't start with
gnome-session-properties.
so I followed this https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash
and I will attach the output.
First off, is that a bug with tracker (if so I will report it), second, is not
having the beagle search tool enabled in sessions the reason for the search
for files under places not bringing up the new beagle-search and instead the
old gnome-search?
Hope this helps. Cheers

[Bug 120248] Re: Need update to Gnome 2.18.2

2007-06-14 Thread Sebastien Bacher
It already happened that a new nautilus stable version was crashing and
that a new tarball had to be rolled, the GNOME guys have no procedure to
test regressions before uploading a new version, they just roll a new
tarball. There is also no strong freeze in effect after .0 so they can
made non trivial changes if they want and only few people are running
stable CVS to test. We do usually ship with .1 which means that most of
annoying bugs of .0 are fixed, .2 only contains a limited set of those
since most upstream have switched to the new unstable serie then

G'day Sebastien,
I'm pretty sure I did not do an accidental drag and drop but may have
hit a shortcut key if one exists. It is more likely to be a gliche which
ocurred prior to the power shutdown of my computer. Once both power and
the menu bar were restored, no further problem has recurred. Both appear
stable. Sorry to have bothered you.

[Bug 98751] Re: feisty beta fails to mount hard drives

2007-06-14 Thread Andrew Lowe
I had this problem with a newer USB thumb drive.
It came up as /dev/sdb1 but the older model comes up as /dev/sdb

My /etc/fstab had an entry for /dev/sdb1 with an invalid mount point (
/dev/sdb1 mount\040point ext3
nouser,noauto,atime,rw,nodev,noexec,nosuid 0 0)

Apon removing this entry everything works fine.
I have no idea how this entry came about to be in my fstab, however removing it
seems to fix the bug.

It also appears that the newer larger? usb thumb drives tend to appear
similar to a hard disk drive (with partitions and all) unlike the older
thumb drives.

I hope this is of some help to all involved, and please do not hesitate
to contact me for more information (I will subscribe to this bug report
too)

2. Click the Save Changes button. This will upload the xorg.conf file which
lives in the /etc/X11/ directory (you can navigate to that directory by using
Places - Computer then choosing file system. This will land you at / where you
should be able to see a directory called etc . With etc there's a directory
called X11 but all of this stuff in brackets is an aside).
3. In the text area box to the right of Attachment write
/var/log/Xorg.0.log
4. Click the Save Changes button.

It has (only just) occurred to me though that you probably don't have a
GUI (have you tried booting into recovery mode?) on the problem machine
and probably don't know how to move files off the problem computer to
another machine from which you can upload them. If this is the case I
suspect you don't actually want to be filing bug reports at this stage
and would be better served raising a support issue over on
https://answers.launchpad.net/ or using one of the other methods of
support described on http://www.ubuntu.com/support/communitysupport and
pointing them at this link so they can gauge your expertise.

[Bug 120214] Re: Faulty reporting of free space with Sony Ericsson z710

2007-06-14 Thread James Henstridge
Matthias: in the previous bug, you mentioned that your previous phone (a
Sony Ericsson K610) worked correctly with the existing code.

Do you still have access to this phone? If so, would you mind running a
similar set of obexftp commands on it and attaching the output? I want
to collect the output of a variety of phones as part of a test suite so
that I can make sure that the folder-listing and capability parsing code
doesn't regress.

[Bug 113070] Re: firefox download manager doesn't work when target is on vfat filesystem

2007-06-14 Thread Hilario J. Montoliu \(hjmf\)
Also, I noticed when downloading an attachment from my yahoo mail
account a strange anomaly when the file was a text file named hah
(no extension) -- yahoo said it was of type BIN. The file downloaded
correctly but when the file system was vfat, the file was named
hah.bin. When the download directory was on an ext3 filesystem, the
file was downloaded properly as hah. I don't know if it's related
 (probably not), but it's annoying.

The issue of adding a .bin suffix in *windows* partitions is been dealt
upstream at [1]. In there you can see a couple of workarounds that imply
changes in the fstab file (comment #23).

[Bug 120347] xorg hang after longer (12h) idle time

2007-06-14 Thread Rolf Offermanns
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I leave my machine running when I leave office in the evening. The
session is locked (KDE - KMenu - Lock Session).

When I get back the next day, I unlock the session and everything is
frozen. Mouse is moving, but I can't click on anything. Keyboard is non-
functional. The window dedorations are gone.

I can ssh to the machine (sometimes switching to console mode does work,
but most of the time it doesn't).

The Xorg process is running at 100% CPU. There is nothing in the system
log files that would indicate an error.

An strace to the Xorg process shows only one SIGALRM line.

Everything was fine sometime ago. I don't know exactly when it broke.

Does anyone has a clue what's going on?

Re: [Bug 118852] Re: please make a -dbgsym package for Feisty

2007-06-14 Thread Martin Pitt
Hi Tormod,

Tormod Volden [2007-06-13 16:10 -]:
What kind of infrastructure is that :)

The building is done by pkg-create-dbgsym; that package is installed
in the buildd chroots. The fetching and archive building is done by

  http://people.ubuntu.com/~pitti/bzr/ddeb-retriever/

(bzr tree; yes, I know, I should move it to LP some day).

I don't totally understand this, even if the sources were the same, it
was for sure rebuilt on Feisty, wasn't it? Aren't all packages rebuilt
in each release, in a pbuilder?

No, it wasn't. The pool/ structure was invented to avoid the
neccessity of artificial rebuilds between releases, and it would need
a new version number for that.

Couldn't you otherwise roll a no-change rebuild (but with corresponding
 -dbgsym) into feisty-updates?

Would be possible, if someone does an SRU for it (whether it still
builds and works with the feisty toolchain).

Looking in my installation, gconf-editor, set apps-gnome-power-

I added this field and then tried both values but neither makes any
obvious difference. Then again gconf-editor reports this new key as

[Bug 55913] Re: Firefox default Homepage should now reffer to 6.06.1

2007-06-14 Thread Matthew East
No, I don't think so. As a result of the passage of time, and given that
we're not going to be changing the version number in the About Ubuntu
document, and given that updating a package in Dapper is a non-trivial
exercise, I'm tempted to say that we should probably do nothing about
this bug now. Do others have strong views?

[Bug 65631] Re: skge driver broken: invalid call to spin_unlock causes system crash

2007-06-14 Thread Lauri Nurmi
I can confirm this bug still exists in Dapper kernel 2.6.15-28.

We have three almost identical computers at the office, each having an
Asus P4P800-SE motherboard and running Dapper. All three computers are
connected to a gigabit switch. All three have had stability issues with
networking especially after the switch was upgraded from 100Mbps to
1000Mbps. The computers tend to crash whenever something network-
intensive is being done, such as downloading an .iso image from another
computer on the LAN. On at least one computer, running a distcc build
causes a crash within ten seconds _every time_.

The patch above seems to fix all the stability issues.

[Bug 120352] Usability concern in Ubuntu install wizard

2007-06-14 Thread reinthal
Public bug reported:

Steps:
1) Try installing Ubuntu 7.04 from Live CD
2) In the middle of it click [Cancel] to try and stop the installation
3) An alert pops up asking if you really want to stop the installation. The
options are [Cancel] (again) or [Quit].

So do you click [Cancel] to cancel the installation, or [Quit] to cancel it?
Or do you click [Quit] to quit the installation, or [Cancel] to quit cancelling
it?

Confused? So was I!

I suggest this be changed to something simple like: Do you really want to exit
the installation of Ubuntu?
[Yes] or [No]

[Bug 108643] Re: nautilus, media containing multiple partitions cannot be unmounted (USB connected)

2007-06-14 Thread Sergio Zanchetta
1. hal from backports changed the way nautilus disconnect external mass-storage
devices.
In fact, it uses umount instead of eject in nautilus right-click menu.

This is the main reason why now it works!

So, eject packet is the problem.
You can test it, just open a terminal and try to disconnect an external usb hd
with eject command (eject /media/etc...), even if you have hal from backports
installed.
It gives you an error.

[Bug 119292] Re: [Gutsy] Tribe-1 won't boot after installing from the Live CD

2007-06-14 Thread tbresson
During the reinstallation of the system I've changed something since the last
install:
Since the harddrive was now resized, I went into Gparted and removed the linux
filesystems and partitions so that there was only my NTFS partion and one empty
partion.
When the partitioner started during the installation from the live CD I simply
choose to use the available free space to install in.

After reinstalling it first goes into checkdisk mode and checks the disk, then
this error ccours:
/dev/sda2 has gone 49710 days without being checked. Check forced.
/dev/sda2 * REBOOT LINUX *
/dev/sda2 100678/3646496 files (0.1% non-configuous), 634818/7289493 blocks
fsck died with exit status 3

The file system check corrected errors on the root partition
but requsted that the system be restarted
This system will be restarteted in 5 secons

After a new reboot the system simply starts up.
I didn't get any of the errors I reported before. So I guess the errors occured
because of the resizing of the partition ... ?

[Bug 67568] Re: error when opening Rosegarden program: System timer resolution is too low

2007-06-14 Thread Yves-Eric Martin
This cannot be fixed in the program itself, as it is not really a bug.

While timer resolution (which is provided by kernel) has virtually no
impact on your usual tasks (browsing the web, reading your email, even
playing mp3s, where the notes are just prerecorded, not generated on the
fly), for serious midi/audio applications, you need a high enough
resolution that can guaranty that recorded/played back notes are exactly
on queue, not a little bit later. For example, if 3 notes are supposed
to be played at (arbitrary unit) 0.058, 0.059, and 0.06... If your timer
resolution is 0.01, then all these 3 notes will be played together at
0.06. So your arpeggio gets turned into a flat chord on playback! To
play this arpeggio properly, you would need a higher resolution timer
(0.001 or less).

So, what the program is saying when you get this error message is:
Sorry but your current kernel does not provide a fast enough timer for
proper operations. And there is nothing the program itself can do about
it, you just need a different kernel.

 espeak (1.26-1ubuntu1) gutsy; urgency=low
 .
   * Merge with Debian; remaining changes:
 - Build-depend on dpatch.
 - Add conflict/replaces with earlier versions.

[Bug 120354] Re: _cache-open() failed, please report.

2007-06-14 Thread Caspar Clemens Mierau
Thank you. Have you ever edited this file manually? As you see the first
line starting with a # breaks, so the word newer is written on the
second line though it should still be on the first line. Maybe you have
changed/added sources with a text editor?
