[Bug 120342] If using XGL+Beryl, some java window cannot show its menu.
Public bug reported: I am using 7.04 x86_64. I started XGL+Beryl in GNOME. If I start some Java-based GUI window (Such as Matlab 2007a for Linux), then the Java-based GUI window 's menu is shown as a blank area without any menu text. [Bug 120343] [gutsy]gnome-session-properties crashes trying to enable beagle search tool
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-session Well, I just installed beagle (used to use tracker, but tracker was not finding all my files [eg, wanted to find some files with the title Stone Temple Pilots in the actual file name, searching for Stone found nothing, but searching for Pilots found it, possible separate bug, idk]) and when i drop down from places to search, it still brings up the old gnome-search (and yes, the beagle daemon is running) so I checked out Sessions and sure enough beagle-search --icon (aka beagle search tool) is not enabled. So I click the checkbox to enable it and it crashes. beagle-search --icon works on it's own, just won't start with gnome-session-properties. so I followed this https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and I will attach the output. First off, is that a bug with tracker (if so I will report it), second, is not having the beagle search tool enabled in sessions the reason for the search for files under places not bringing up the new beagle-search and instead the old gnome-search? [Bug 120248] Re: Need update to Gnome 2.18.2
It already happened that a new nautilus stable version was crashing and that a new tarball had to be rolled, the GNOME guys have no procedure to test regressions before uploading a new version, they just roll a new tarball. There is also no strong freeze in effect after .0 so they can made non trivial changes if they want and only few people are running stable CVS to test. In the text area box to the right of Attachment write /etc/X11/xorg.conf 2. Click the Save Changes button. This will upload the xorg.conf file which lives in the /etc/X11/ directory (you can navigate to that directory by using Places - Computer then choosing file system. This will land you at / where you should be able to see a directory called etc . With etc there's a directory called X11 but all of this stuff in brackets is an aside). 3. In the text area box to the right of Attachment write /var/log/Xorg.0.log 4. Click the Save Changes button. It has (only just) occurred to me though that you probably don't have a GUI (have you tried booting into recovery mode?) on the problem machine and probably don't know how to move files off the problem computer to another machine from which you can upload them. [Bug 113070] Re: firefox download manager doesn't work when target is on vfat filesystem
Also, I noticed when downloading an attachment from my yahoo mail account a strange anomaly when the file was a text file named hah (no extension) -- yahoo said it was of type BIN. The file downloaded correctly but when the file system was vfat, the file was named hah.bin. When the download directory was on an ext3 filesystem, the file was downloaded properly as hah. I don't know if it's related (probably not), but it's annoying. The issue of adding a .bin suffix in *windows* partitions is been dealt upstream at [1]. In there you can see a couple of workarounds that imply changes in the fstab file (comment #23). Re: [Bug 118852] Re: please make a -dbgsym package for Feisty
Hi Tormod, Tormod Volden [2007-06-13 16:10 -]: What kind of infrastructure is that :) The building is done by pkg-create-dbgsym; that package is installed in the buildd chroots. The fetching and archive building is done by http://people.ubuntu.com/~pitti/bzr/ddeb-retriever/ (bzr tree; yes, I know, I should move it to LP some day). I don't totally understand this, even if the sources were the same, it was for sure rebuilt on Feisty, wasn't it? Aren't all packages rebuilt in each release, in a pbuilder? No, it wasn't. The pool/ structure was invented to avoid the neccessity of artificial rebuilds between releases, and it would need a new version number for that. Couldn't you otherwise roll a no-change rebuild (but with corresponding -dbgsym) into feisty-updates? Would be possible, if someone does an SRU for it (whether it still builds and works with the feisty toolchain). I can confirm this bug still exists in Dapper kernel 2.6.15-28. We have three almost identical computers at the office, each having an Asus P4P800-SE motherboard and running Dapper. All three computers are connected to a gigabit switch. All three have had stability issues with networking especially after the switch was upgraded from 100Mbps to 1000Mbps. The computers tend to crash whenever something network- intensive is being done, such as downloading an .iso image from another computer on the LAN. On at least one computer, running a distcc build causes a crash within ten seconds _every time_. [Bug 108643] Re: nautilus, media containing multiple partitions cannot be unmounted (USB connected)
1. hal from backports changed the way nautilus disconnect external mass-storage devices. In fact, it uses umount instead of eject in nautilus right-click menu. This is the main reason why now it works! So, eject packet is the problem. You can test it, just open a terminal and try to disconnect an external usb hd with eject command (eject /media/etc...), even if you have hal from backports installed. During the reinstallation of the system I've changed something since the last install: Since the harddrive was now resized, I went into Gparted and removed the linux filesystems and partitions so that there was only my NTFS partion and one empty partion. When the partitioner started during the installation from the live CD I simply choose to use the available free space to install in. [Bug 67568] Re: error when opening Rosegarden program: System timer resolution is too low
This cannot be fixed in the program itself, as it is not really a bug. While timer resolution (which is provided by kernel) has virtually no impact on your usual tasks (browsing the web, reading your email, even playing mp3s, where the notes are just prerecorded, not generated on the fly), for serious midi/audio applications, you need a high enough resolution that can guaranty that recorded/played back notes are exactly on queue, not a little bit later. For example, if 3 notes are supposed to be played at (arbitrary unit) 0.058, 0.059, and 0.06... If your timer resolution is 0.01, then all these 3 notes will be played together at 0.06. So your arpeggio gets turned into a flat chord on playback! To play this arpeggio properly, you would need a higher resolution timer (0.001 or less). So, what the program is saying when you get this error message is: Sorry but your current kernel does not provide a fast enough timer for proper operations. And there is nothing the program itself can do about it, you just need a different kernel. -- error when opening Rosegarden program: System timer resolution is too low https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/67568 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
