[Bug 133094] alsa-base needs patches for thinkpad t61

2007-08-17 Thread Larry Garfield
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: alsa-base

A few patches went into ALSA CVS right after 1.0.14 was tagged that are
required to make alsa work on a Lenovo Thinkpad T/X61. They're already
in ALSA's head, apparently:

[Bug 132924] Re: German umlauts not displayed correctly in gutsy

2007-08-17 Thread Arne Goetje
Can you please post the following information of your installation:
 1. list of your font packages installed (dpkg -l | grep ttf-)

 2. ls /usr/share/fonts/truetype

 3. ls ~/.fonts/

I suppose there is a font installed in your system which has a wrong encoding.
Although currently I can only speculate.
To be able to find the culprit, I'll need the above mentioned information.

Thanks

[Bug 133098] two problems with UIM-HANGUL(2|3)

2007-08-17 Thread Christophe Raverdy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: scim-hangul

I mainly speak french, i'm just doing my best in english.

Hello

I only used synaptic to add the support of korean, my system is up to
date.

I can use SCIM with japanese, I have no problem.

Bonjour.

It should also be ok with korean (I can input hangeul, and I can see
the alphabet but...

I use Gnome, I have a french (azerty) keyboard, SCIM is configured to
consider my keyboard.

UIM-hangul3 does work fine but it does consider my keyboard is qwerty.
if you know korean, you know it can be not that simple to input characters
from a westerner keyboard, but there, it's really a pain for my fingers.

UIM-hangul2 works better (it considers my azerty keyboard) but it doesn't
know the diphtong issued from the combination of vowels eu et i
(on my keyboard it(s the keys m and l.

has this case been reported yet ? is it solved ? is there a way to
patch it by myself ?

if you have problems on modprobe uvcvideo with lsmod u need to control

[Bug 96715] Re: double swap space usage

2007-08-17 Thread LGB [Gábor Lénárt]
Tim: Thx for explanation, I see, but it's also a security problem. On a
multiuser system, someone can take a look on /proc/swaps and realizes
the situation. So, (s)he starts programs to consume enough memory kernel
to start to use the second swap partition which is actually the same
but it does not know about this. The result: local user can cripple the
whole system. I don't know it can be treated as security problem with
this example though ... However it's true that if someone maintain a
server with users on it, (s)he should know about the issue ... :)

[Bug 133100] pamusb-agent crashes in Gutsy with python import error.

2007-08-17 Thread craigmain
Public bug reported:

When starting pamusb-agent it crashes with this error:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ pamusb-agent
Traceback (most recent call last):
File /usr/bin/pamusb-agent, line 30, in module
import elementtree.ElementTree as et

The solution is to edit /usr/bin/pamusb-agent and change line 30 from:

import elementtree.ElementTree as et

to

import xml.etree.ElementTree as et

All works fine after that.

The problem seems to lie with the fact that ElementTree is now included
with python 2.5 and is imported somewhat differently. I guess on the
other hand you could run it using the python 2.4 interpreter which would
work without a problem

[Bug 133048] Report Needed

2007-08-17 Thread Hilario J. Montoliu \(hjmf\)
Thank you Hammadh for submitting this report.

Unfortunately the report you have submitted doesn't have debug symbols,
nor contains the coredump from the crash. So, could you please try to
obtain a backtrace by following the instructions on [1], or upload the
full crash report that probably was generated during the crash and that
should be located at /var/crash/ to [2].

Please indicate which extensions/plugins do you have enabled; and if
this crash is reproducible describe the steps that lead to it (it is
very important for us to have a test case for each crash).

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 133103] Jaba bug: getSystemLookAndFeelClassName() returns Metal, not GTK

2007-08-17 Thread David Nemeskey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sun-java6-jdk

When using the UIManager.getSystemLookAndFeelClassName() method, it
returns javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalLookAndFeel (the cross-platform
one), and not com.sun.java.swing.plaf.gtk.GTKLookAndFeel, as expected.
If the UIManager.setLookAndFeel() method is called with the latter, the
LF will be set to GTK, so it is definitely there; the system just fails
to recognize it as the default LF.

This error is reproducible with sun-java5-jdk as well, I have not tried
the -jre packages, or gcj. Both the jdk root/bin/java and
jdk_root/jre/bin/java works alike.

[Bug 133105] Sound does not work in feisty 7.04 on a new T61P (snd_hda_intel)

2007-08-17 Thread Michael R. Head
Public bug reported:

Just got a brand new T61P. It has very new hardware and doesn't work
perfectly with feisty. If someone actually succeeds in installing feisty
on one of these laptops (hard because of bug 106864 or bug 129817),
they'll be greeted by a host of non-functioning hardware (naturally due
to the hardware being more recent than feisty). This report is about the
sound hardware (Device: 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller).

The titular driver is found and loaded, gnome-volume-control and
mixer_applet2 both find the mixers, the keyboard volume controls appear
to function (they cause the volume slider to pop up and move up and
down). Both Totem and aplay think they're playing the ubuntu Sax.ogg
file, but no sound comes out, even when all the levels are maxed out.

[Bug 133109] wrong nvidia-glx driver loads (1.0-9755 vs. 1.0-9631) when nvidia-glx is installed and enabled

2007-08-17 Thread Michael R. Head
Public bug reported:

Just got a brand new Thinkpad T61P today, and because it's so new, the
drivers with feisty have been having some trouble on it (as is
expected). This bug is about the video hardware, which is nvidia-based.

The laptop graphics hardware is indeed nvidia-based. lspci says this:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation Unknown device 040c (rev
a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA])
Subsystem: Lenovo Unknown device 20d9

Region 3: Memory at d400 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=32M]
Region 5: I/O ports at 2000 [size=128]
Capabilities: access denied

The installer (and sudo dpkg-reconfigure xorg-xserver) detects this
hardware and attempts to use the nv driver, which doesn't work. I
figured I could install the nvidia-glx package to get X up with the
nvidia driver. Unfortunately, this fails. Somehow, the nvidia_new
module is getting loaded, even when modprobe nvidia is manually
called.

Also, if I install the nvidia-glx-new package, starting X hangs the computer,
requiring a full power off (holding the power button).

And for anyone with this laptop trying to get X up, the vesa driver
works very well enough for most 2D work. I'm using it at 1920x1200. Xv
and 3D are of course off limits, but most desktop apps function just
fine.

[Bug 133106] Swedish characters displays as %o

2007-08-17 Thread Sailor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

I'm using Ubuntu Feisty (7.04) and openoffice.org 2.2.0-1ubuntu4.
When I'm opening a oo document written in Swedish, sometimes the Swedish
characters å/Å (a/A with a ring above) and ä/Ä (a/A with 2 dots above) are
replaced with a odd special character %o (but in one character). If I copy the
character e.g. to this input window in firefox it will be displayed correct.
But in OO it's wrong both on screen and as printed out as well as exported to
pdf. If I export the file to MS-word and open it in ms-word (running on
crossover in the same machine) it displays all characters correct. If I change
the font e.g. to italic it displays correct but when I change the font back
again it displays wrong again.
So far I've found this problem with the fonts Verdana (regular) and Times New
Roman (regular). I dont have this problem with any other application than OO.

A maybe odd thing is that the third Swedish character ö/Ö (o with 2 dots
above) always displays correct.

Quite a painful bug indeed. Because this behaviour is something that can
generally expected from a browser (and also works fine in every other
browser I tried in Ubuntu). It gives Firefox a bad mark in Ubuntu. I
know that bugs shouldn't be filled with notes such as these, but I feel
this could hurt Firefox unfairly when compared to the other browsers
Ubuntu offers, because for users it may not be clear from first sight
it's a really a mistake and not actually intended.

Looking at the bug title ... this bug is not about
middlemouse.contentLoadURL, but about clipboard problems. Please find
the right bug next time.

[Bug 133037] Re: rss feed empty in firefox and other mozilla-based apps

2007-08-17 Thread Rafał Próchniak
Well, I actually use epiphany, and as of this bug report it didn't work there.
It does today...
I encountered it first in Liferea, where this feed still doesn't work.

There's also an atom feed there, showing the same strange
epiphany/firefox behavior.

[Bug 132456] Re: User account 'remembers' admin password

2007-08-17 Thread viking777
OK I see what you mean.
Like I said, I have removed kdesudu and my functionality has returned to normal
and so far I haven't noticed anything untoward from not having the package
installed.
