2007-10-01 Thread Bruno Garcia
I can confirm this issue in Gutsy Beta, brought up to date today.
If I try to connect mine laptop, the whole system hangs and the computer
needs a hardreboot.
he only functions with ethernet normal with wire.

lspci: 00:0d.0 Network controller: RaLink RT2561/RT61 rev B 802.11g

this happened in the 7.04, but it stopped to give error when the package
linux-386.deb installed.
But in the 7.10 this does not solve nothing.

[Bug 147524] [Gutsy] Windows no longer on Grub list

2007-10-01 Thread Aaron Whitehouse
Public bug reported:

I installed Gutsy Beta from the Desktop CD and it all worked perfectly.
I have Ubuntu and Windows on this machine and manually edited the grub
menu.lst to put Windows above the automatic Ubuntu section (so that it
booted by default).

Today, I downloaded all the updates since Gutsy Beta was released. When
I rebooted, Windows was missing from the list. Only the various Ubuntu
options were there.

I have manually added it back, but it is a pretty serious thing to
happen from downloading updates.

[Bug 103177] Re: boot-time race condition initializing md

2007-10-01 Thread Arthur
I've finally solved this in my case: After detecting the second disk,
udev triggers a mdadm --assemble --scan as it should. This failed to
pick up the new disk. Removing num-devices=, level= and uuid= settings
from /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf resolved this problem. My
/etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf now reads:

DEVICE /dev/hda1 /dev/hda2 /dev/sda2 /dev/sda3

ARRAY /dev/md0 devices=/dev/hda1,/dev/sda2
ARRAY /dev/md1 devices=/dev/hda2,/dev/sda3

A dpkg-reconfigure mdadm later the problem was gone. Together with the
evms removal this is probably worth it to be put into an upgrade guide.

[Bug 77675] Re: apache2-ssl-certificate has gone missing since feisty

2007-10-01 Thread Geoff Shuetrim
The workaround at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apache2/+bug/77675/comments/4
worked fine for me. I built the package, extracted the ssleay.cnf file
and placed it at /usr/share/apache2/ssleay.cnf and extracted the apache2
-ssl-certificate and put it at /usr/sbin/apache2-ssl-certificate. I
also manually created the /etc/apache2/ssl directory. That let me
generate the /etc/apache2/ssl/apache.pem file containing both the key
and the certificate. After properly configuring the apache server to
work with the certificate it seemed to run fine.

- Install a signal handler for cleaning up the automount disabling FDI, so

- Use storage.automount_enabled_hint instead of volume.ignore for the

2007-10-01 Thread Norbert Preining
Dear all!

On the Ubuntu side one user mentioned that the vlna is not present. And
this is true, it is only present for arch=win32.

Is there a reason for this? I cannot understand the documentation at
all, but the user told me that it should be necessary on all platforms
(see below).

Any comments?

Thanks a lot and all the best

cslatex -- LaTeX support for Czech/Slovak typesetting.
csplain -- Plain TeX support for Czech/Slovak typesetting.
  bin-cslatex -- LaTeX support for Czech/Slovak typesetting.
bin-csplain -- Plain TeX support for Czech/Slovak typesetting.
bin-vlna -- Binaries for the Vlna program.
  hyphen-czechslovak -- Czechslovak scripts

(taken from Synaptic's description of package)

This program is actually needed on every platform you intend to typeset
Czech documents on. Prepositions (and certain connectives) connected to
words (e.g. k Pavlovi) cannot be split - you cannot leave the
preposition k at the end of one line and continue the word to which it
connects (in this case Pavlovi) on the next line - this is against
 Czech typographical rules.

I think that given the description of the package, the program _should_
be present, so that's why I filed it as a bug. Especially considering
that after installation the manual page is present, but the program Vlna
 itself not.

 Best regards,

 Shkodran Gerguri

[Bug 35876] Re: 'Downloading package information' and 'building dependency tree' progress dialogs steal focus

2007-10-01 Thread Matthew Walton
Contrary to Sebastian's comment in February, Compiz also exhibits this
behaviour, so I don't think the entire blame can be placed on metacity.

Nothing else on my Gutsy system behaves like this, so it has to be
something update manager is doing differently - although I can't figure
out what that is. It's incredibly irritating though (and makes me wonder
- why pop up a window at all? Why not swap out the existing contents for
a progress display? That's another bug of course).

I used 2.5.0.4 in Feisty installed via Automatix and it worked good.
After migrating to Gusty I've 2.5.0.0 which dumps its core every time

[Bug 147531] Work Spaces can't be arranged in 2 rows using brightside

2007-10-01 Thread Rob
Public bug reported:

I am used to Brightside which allows me to flip/switch among 4 screens
*instantly*(the reason I like it the most) as I move mouse cursor to the
edge, either to the sides or top and bottom. Since 7.10 is upgraded
Brightside can't arrange the workspaces in 2 rows or more, and only be
able to flip sides to sides with work spaces arranged in 1 row. Unloaded
Brightside then the 2 row workspace arrangement works fine, less the
switching capability.

Maybe Beryl or Compiz will do the work but they seems to hang up the
whole GUI or crashed some of my running application from time to time.

Re: [Bug 147493] Re: Ardour, Jack, Password Nightmares.

2007-10-01 Thread rhY
I am CLEARLY not a programmer, and this is CLEARLY not a helpful
response. If you want Ubuntu to be Linux for humans, than I suggest
talking to me like a human and not giving me the same blanket response
and deleting all my bug requests. I filed one GIANT bug report, and one
of the people in charge told me to submit them separately. So I did.
It took time out of my already busy schedule, and most of my suggestions
are very good. I didn't write anything offensive. But now I'm going
to. You're a jerk. Go be a jerk somewhere else. You're not helping
this project, unless you want people to think it is put together by a
bunch of jerks.

All of my bug reports are legitimate, and at LEAST should have been put
in the wish list category. I'm submitting official complaints about you
every where I can.

rhY
You would have a far better chance of getting stuff fixed if you helped
by contributing patches, and doing testing for the various projects.
This bug, in itself, is offensive and useless. Ubuntu, and it's programs
are done by volunteers for the most part - they are not required to do
your bidding, unless they wish to. If you write your bugs such that you
think they are, you will be ignored.

Closing, due to offensiveness, and uselessness (and the fact that it's
pointless to track meta-bugs like this, this way)

[Bug 147422] Re: gutsy install stops after formatting partitions

2007-10-01 Thread Ed Smits
I have had exactly the same problem whether using the AMD64 or i386 Live
install of the Gutsy beta. The problem seems to be with the partitioning
tool itself - if before you try to install you use gParted to manually
set up the partitions it also crashes after applying the change and then
doing a rescan. The changes are OK, they show up correctly, and running
checks on them shows them to be clean. Unfortunately since the Live
install insists on formatting / and /boot I was still unable to install
Gutsy - during the install I pointed it to the partitions already
created, it then hung at 5% as described above. If necessary I have
saved my log files from the installs if needed, and also allowed the bug
reporting thing to report the crash.

[Bug 140761] Re: Ubuntu 7.10 Alpha Gust OS does not recognize a lun with non zero target id on Vmware ESX Server

2007-10-01 Thread Soren Hansen
I've tracked this down.

It seems to be a bug in VMWare's LSILogic emulation. It wrongfully says
MaxDevices is 0.

To fix it, apply the patch from http://lkml.org/lkml/2007/3/23/345 and
remove the mpt_channel_mapping stuff from /etc/modprobe.d/options.

[Bug 134712] Re: gparted didn't exit cleanly, no automount anymore

2007-10-01 Thread Martin Pitt
hal (0.5.9.1-6ubuntu1) gutsy; urgency=low

  * Merge recent fixes from Debian. Revert the libsmbios-dev build dep
addition for Gutsy, since it is in universe.
  * debian/hal.init: Remove stray gparted-disable-automount.fdi on startup.
(LP: #134712)

hal (0.5.9.1-6) unstable; urgency=low

  * debian/hal.init:
+ Don't start hal if sysfs is not mounted on /sys or a chrooted session
  is detected.

hal (0.5.9.1-5) unstable; urgency=low

  [ Sjoerd Simons ]
  * debian/patches/75-hal-serial-null.patch: Fix crash when linux.device_file
of a serial device isn't known (Closes: #439919, #440468)

hal (0.5.9.1-4) unstable; urgency=low

  * debian/rules
- Do not explicitely enable the dell-backlight support as libsmbios-dev is
only available on amd64/i386. The ./configure script will automatically
enable the feature for platforms where libsmbios-dev is installed.
  (Closes: #438459)

hal (0.5.9.1-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * Check for inotify support in the init script and fail gracefully with a
proper error message. (Closes: #426049, #434615)
  * Check if dbus is running in the init script and fail gracefully with a
proper error message. (Closes: #426420, #427332)
  * debian/hal-device-manager.desktop
- Remove invalid category Application from the Categories field.

hal (0.5.9.1-2) unstable; urgency=low

  [ Sjoerd Simons ]
  * debian/control
+ Add libsmbios-dev build-depend on amd64 and i386 to build the dell
  backlight addon (Closes: #429871)
  * debian/patches/70-libhal-changeset-memleak.patch
+ Added. Fixes a memleak when freeing hal changesets. (Closes: #429823)

  [ Michael Biebl ]
  * debian/hal.preinst
- Do not parse /var/lib/dpkg/status directly but use dpkg-query instead.

[Bug 105881] Re: acer_acpi [Needs packaging]

2007-10-01 Thread Panayiotis Karabassis
Olivier, hi!
I am more of a beginner than you. I didn't even try to use pbuilder, instead I
relied on the script given in
[http://www.debian.org/doc/maint-guide/ch-dreq.en.html#s-control] to find the
dependencies.
With pbuilder I get the same error as you, however if I add the correct
dependencies to the control file (I messed them up in the original release) I
get instead:

Unable to locate package linux-headers-2.6.20-16-generic

Maybe pbuilder is using wrong apt repos? I'll try to read more on pbuilder
tomorrow.
If you are still interesting in trying my package you can get it (+ sources)
at the repo above. I made a build on my desktop and although it installs and
uninstalls successfully modprobe gives No such device (naturally). Do back-up
your /etc/modules though :-)

[Bug 107441] Re: [feisty]slowness of the system with Ubuntu 2.6.20-15.27-generic

2007-10-01 Thread Torrance
I have the same problem, and it's apparently an issue with Ubuntu's
interaction with the hard drive. It's not the hard drive itself, and my
Debian system on the same computer runs smoothly, so it must be a
kernel/driver issue.

This is quote a serious issue for me, as though the system works, it is
not usable for extended periods of time due to the sheer sluggishness of
it.

[Bug 94605] Re: when DVD is in drive on boot, two icons for the DVD appear on the desktop in gnome

2007-10-01 Thread Yuri Glushkov
I have the same problem. When the disk is removed and another inserted, new
icon shows up, but the previous one stays (but when opened, leads to the new
disk). The second icon disappears after reboot without disk in the drive.
My configuration:
Laptop MSI EX600
DVD drive LG GSA-T20N
Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn

Confirming this on gutsy. Also easily reproducable with compiz --replace
(use kwin --replace to get your window decorations back).

[Bug 134446] Re: Compiz causing Hard Locks on certain systems

2007-10-01 Thread Thomas Raffler
I experienced many Hard Locks on my Samsung X20 Notebook (ATI X600 Mobility).
If the radeon driver is used together with compiz-effects (Live-CD
configuration), the system freezes completely after some minutes.

Disabling the effects is sufficient for stable use and installation (!)
of the Live-CD.

[Bug 132947] Re: mail-notification lost its ssl/tls ability

2007-10-01 Thread domak
$ apt-cache policy mail-notification
mail-notification:
  Installed: 4.1.dfsg.1-2ubuntu1
  Candidate: 4.1.dfsg.1-2ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 4.1.dfsg.1-2ubuntu1 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com gutsy/universe Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

$ objdump -p /usr/bin/mail-notification | grep NEEDED | grep -E '(ssl|tls)'
= nothing found

I checked my yahoo account configuration on mail-notification.
In the connection tab, the authentication mecanism was Autodetect but no
radio button for connection type was selected. I selected standard (the only
option, the others are greyed) and the status message from my yahoo account
change to Authentication failed in place of the message saying that
mail-notification need to be compiling with the SSL/TLS option.

By the way, I have several account and the only one who works perfectly
is the gmail one. The yahoo account never worked with feisty and my IMAP
account from laposte.net give me an Unreconized command like in feisty
(it has worked - and still worked with thunderbird - but I think the
provider changes something that's not compatible with the IMAP support
of mail-notification).

Thanks
