[Bug 105900] Re: Bold, Italics, and Bold Italics not in English on Fonts menu

2007-12-03 Thread Vlad Lungeanu
I confirm it in OO.o 2.3.0 under Kubuntu Gutsy.

I have downloaded the original OO.o RPMs, converted them to DEBs with
alien, and installed them (after uninstalling the Ubuntu version). The
problem is gone, so the Ubuntu packages are definitely the cause.

2007-12-03 Thread hk47
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: asterisk

References:
http://www.debian.org/security/2007/dsa-1417

Quoting DSA-1417-1:
Tilghman Lesher discovered that the logging engine of Asterisk, a free
software PBX and telephony toolkit performs insufficient sanitising of
call-related data, which may lead to SQL injection.

SQL injection vulnerability in the Call Detail Record Postgres logging engine
(cdr_pgsql) in Asterisk 1.4.x before 1.4.15, 1.2.x before 1.2.25, B.x before
B.2.3.4, and C.x before C.1.0-beta6 allows remote authenticated users to

[Bug 147800] Re: [Gutsy] : bluetooth printing was working but is not (at the beginning of september).

2007-12-03 Thread Martin Pitt
** Description changed:

  I'm using Gutsy, and it's up-to-date.

Once month ago, I was able to print to my bluetooth HP printer, after added
very easily this with new system-config-printer.
However, if the printer is OK, and the setup of system-config-printer too,
it's not working anymore.

  Logs from /var/log/cups/error_log :
  E [01/Oct/2007:21:22:26 +0200] [Job 27] Can't open Bluetooth connection
  E [01/Oct/2007:21:22:26 +0200] PID 21002 (/usr/lib/cups/backend/bluetooth)

  E [01/Oct/2007:21:22:34 +0200] PID 21001 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip)

  Logs from dmesg :

name=/dev/tty pid=21114 profile=/usr/sbin/cupsd

I can see that my bluetooth stick *doesn't blink* asit usually did while
sending a printing request.
But I can use the backend directly and see it blinking :
  $ /usr/lib/cups/backend/bluetooth
  network bluetooth://0005164004A2 Unknown deskjet 995c S/N MY1581C042AP
(Bluetooth)

I don't know how to print the job directly, using the backend. So I can't
tell you more.

  TEST CASE:
   - Make sure bluez-cups is installed and enable a Bluetooth adapter.
   - Create a bogus bluetooth printer:
 lpadmin -p test -E -v bluetooth://00408C5E5DA4/spp -m
lsb/usr/cups-pdf/PostscriptColor.ppd
   - try to print something:
-echo hello | lp -P test
+echo hello | lp -d test
   - dmesg will show that apparmor denied BT access:
 type=1503 operation=socket_create family=bluetooth
sock_type=seqpacket protocol=0 pid=15635 profile=/usr/sbin/cupsd
   - Delete the test printer again:
 lpadmin -x test

[Bug 173622] [7.10] Doesn't dim screen on nvidia chipsets

2007-12-03 Thread Sebastian Wehrmann
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Hi,

on my Sony Vaio SZ3/XWP and Dell Latitude D820 (both with nvidia
chipset) the gnome display brightness control does not work.

On the Vaio the problem represents as follow:

Gnome brightness control sets a value between 0 and 7 to
/sys/class/backlight/sony/brightness. This works for the intel chipset,
but not for the nvidia one. On the nvidia chipset, you have to call
/usr/bin/smartdimmer, which sets a value between 0 and 21 to adjust
brightness. This works, and Fn-F5/Fn-F6 does this correct.

Possibile solutions:

(1)
  - check if nvidia chipset is present and used
  - call /usr/bin/smartdimmer -s value instead of writing to
/sys/class/backlight/sony/brightness

(2)

  - use the acpi-script /etc/acpi/sonybright.sh, which has a hack to
smartdimmer and is already used by the Fn-keys

This is because Ubuntu was selecting an internal sound device for some

[Bug 65230] Re: startup messages continue on screen after first login prompt appears

This seems to affect the (still alpha) version of Hardy.
The fix you propose still works though.

[Bug 125835] Re: cannot play audio on .3gp movies

2007-12-03 Thread rothchild
I've been trying to work around this bug / issue I understand it's a
licensing issue with the AMR codec there's more info here:
http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:Yc48HTudC_cJ:www.penguin.cz/~utx/amr+penguin.czhl=enct=clnkcd=2gl=ukclient=firefox-a
but unfortunately the actual penguin.cz site (and the build script for
the amr code seems to be down :-( )

There's also a thread here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=178455 and a fairly useful walk
through here: http://www.thisismobility.com/blog/?p=156 although I've
been getting stuck on how to bring the AMR codec and FFMPEG together in
compilation.

Some people have said that I should just install realplayer and be done
with it but the point is really that I don't want my machine littered
with different media players and have to know that I need different ones
for different files I just want one that just works ;-)

I can't find it again now but there is a SOC project on AMR and there's
also a guide here with a link to the AMR codec from the phenomenally
awfull 3gp website here: http://webcvs.freedesktop.org/gstreamer/gst-
plugins-bad/ext/amrwb/README?view=markuprevision=1.1

Hope this gives someone with the appropriate wisdom the tools to make
this happen by default in ubuntu (or perhaps a simple to use medibuntu
package?)

Cheers
Child

 Any other idea?

I've attached my acpi-support file, maybe there are some other
differences that may be relevant?

Otherwise, I'm not sure. I myself still experience the occasional lockup
at resume. It happens more often after suspend, and less after
hibernate, but I have not been able to find a definite pattern there...

As an aside, network often fails to come up properly at resume as well
(with 'sudo killall NetworkManager sudo Networkmanager' as an easy
but inappropriate workaround...). I don't suppose this is related, but
mention it just in case (please do redirect nm related stuff to the
appropriate bug/thread!).

[Bug 173629] Apple Mac Mini doesn't boot without monitor

2007-12-03 Thread akhil
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.15

If I turn off the monitor, linux doesn't boot until I turn it on again.
The machine is very hot, with the fan at top speed, so it should be in a
busy wait. I've waited up to 5 minutes without any result.

The kernel boots adding this option to the boot line:
video=radeonfb:ignore_edid

But then, when I turn on the monitor it can work only at 640x480. I've
to reboot the machine to get it working at higher resolutions.

The solution is for radeon chips but I have a Intel 950 GMA chip which
will have some other setting or might not support this option. Have
someone solved this problem?

try to execute ifconfig eth0 up (I've also tried with eth1 and eth2,
because this server has 3 NICs) the result is no such device

Does ifconfig -a give you anything apart from the loopback interface?

[Bug 134680] Re: Sleep and Hibernate issues in Gutsy on Thinkpad x41

2007-12-03 Thread Blitz
As a workaround to this (at least on my X41) was using the hibnerate
scripts.

Changing the line in /etc/hibernate/hibernate.conf to first try
ram.conf, than tell gnome-power-manager to use hibernate and it works.
But i hope suspend-to-ram will work using the normal acpi soon again!

[Bug 173636] Gnome Help stops responding until Firefox closes

2007-12-03 Thread yecril71pl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

When I press upon community documentation link in the main Gnome help screen,

[Bug 133118] Re: very corrupt X after suspend/resume

2007-12-03 Thread January
I am just adding this comment for the reference.

I had the same problem with Thinkpad X40. I have filed another bug
report (#164456), because I failed to find this thread first.

 Downloading the package from http://www2.eng.cam.ac.uk/~pcjc2/ubuntu/
solved the problem. My thinkpad is now waking up as it supposed.

Hello,

Yes it is reproducible by another user, and no it behaves similarly at least
reiserfs filesystem. So there is some sort of bug that is not filesystem
dependable.

[Bug 160445] Re: Tali 'straight' algorythm error

2007-12-03 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Comment from upstream:

This is not a bug. A large straight is 5 consecutive numbers, either 12345 or
23456. A small straight is 4 consecutive numbers, where the fifth can be
anything. So 33456 is a valid small straight (4 in a row, 3456), as is, for
example, 12346. The glossary describes them this way:
Large Straight

   Five dice with consecutive numbers. e.g. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
   The score is 40 points.

Small Straight

Four dice with consecutive numbers. The fifth die can be
   any number. e.g. 2, 3, 4, 5, 5.
This category is only used in the regular game.
   The score is 30 points.
