[Bug 174599] Re: (GUTSY) Typing sudo in run applications dialog box freezes system
** Description changed: typing sudo in the alt-f2 run applications dialog box and then the program name or command freezes the system, and shuts off any sound/music as well if any are playing and where at least/most the keyboard only works to allow a ctrl+alt+backspace if not and one has dontzap in the xorg conf then the only way out is via the powerbutton on the computer. Gksudo seems to be unaffected by this and does NOT cause a freeze up of the system. This occurs if by defualt and left unchecked run in terminal is unchecked and one just presses the enter key on the - keyboard. I did NOT check this bug is a security vulnerbility because I - thought maybe a local DOS attack or remote if one is allowed to login - and run the run applications dialog box or it may allow code injection, - but all I know is what is stated in the sentences above about it - freezing the system. + keyboard. [Bug 128803] Re: [Gutsy] very slow gnome startup
thats one way to do itmaybe devs will realize how annoying this can be. this bug needs instructions on how to approach self-diagnosing the problem. many people have removed all applets with no results. sweetsinse seemed to do an extremely thorough job and suggested it may be a problem with the compiz script used by ubuntu. has this been explored by any developers knowledgable in this area? looking at bootchart doesn't mean anything to me, if i go through the trouble of patching and installing it to analyze login will someone take a look? first though, how do i do that? I for one use both compiz and deskbar as i have since edgy, and i've still noticed a good 15-30sec jump in login time since moving from feisty. removing them doesnt seem to change much, but when you're talking about 45sec login vs 60sec its still waaa too lng. -- [Gutsy] very slow gnome startup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/128803 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 68792] Re: amule crashes when trying to download kad nodes
I really hope I don't come off as rude here, but I get frustrated and tweak out... ummWhy is this not fixed/backported/reverted? It worked on my last installation, and the one before(etc. to half way through feisty) but...not now. Why did this package get 'updated' when it just breaks an installation? is this a sporadic problem, with no current known cause? Again, the current version out there fixes this problem, but for some reason there's not even a patch? I'd like to help somehow, but I don't even know where to start, and I'm not much help when I'm this frustrated. I have 30+gb worth of unfinished downloads just taking up space. To sum up, it used to work, now it doesn't, there's a fix, it's not available through apt, I want to help, I don't know how, and doubt I'd do that well at it. This bug was nominated for Gutsy but does currently not qualify for a 7.10 stable release update (SRU) and the nomination is therefore declined. According the the SRU policy, the fix should already be deployed and tested in the current development version before an update to the stable releases will be considered. With 7.10 now released, that policy applies to this bug. See: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates . The bug is not being closed as work will continue on fixing it for the next release, Hardy Heron (8.04). I have the same problem with MediaForte PV951 card (video is ok, but no sound) on 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon. [Bug 165052] Re: [r8169] mac addres lost
I don't know if it is a problem with xen or with the network interface driver. The big question is, should the original MAC address to be restored on startup of the machine or not? Whats happening here is that xen is moving the physical interface eth0 to peth0. The dom0 will use a virtual interface eth0 which get the original MAC address of the network card. peth0 which is the physical card is only in bridging mode and has the virtual MAC address FE:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF. After the restart peth0 has still FE:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF which is wrong because it will be loaded as eth0 first. Then it starts from the beginning, eth0 with the wrong MAC will be copied to peth0 and the wrong MAC will be transported to the virtual device eth0. There are two ways how that problem can be solved. 1. with xend stop the script network-bridge should be started with parameter stop, at this point the original mac address we be set to the physical device again. 2. on every startup or load of the module r8169 the mac address has to be set to the interface card. Perhaps anybody can give more hints to following points: 1. Is there a command to restore the original MAC address of a r8169 interface card? 2. Should the original MAC address not be set back on system startup by the interface itself? -- [r8169] mac addres lost https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/165052 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 174669] gutsy server installer doesn't detect partitions
Public bug reported: This bug is similar to bugs 144230 and 108562. I assume a more recent release constitutes a new bug... That said, it's pretty straight forward: the partition manager starts, it thinks I have a SATA hard drive, which I don't, I have IDE, and then only sees a blank (no partitions) disk. I tried Server 6.06 and found that it also did not detect any partitions. I have 3 1/2. They are a pre-existing install of Gutsy server (which I intend to over-write), an install of PCLOS 2007, a shared home directory between them, and a logical partition for swap. From what I've read this problem has been a recurring one in Ubuntu releases and may have to do with inconsistent partition tables or some such. I have read of a possible work around but this is obviously not ideal. Installation is NOT where you want to start getting hiccups. Also, would the SATA / IDE thing be a separate bug?
