[Bug 36990] Re: Sometimes get two speaker icons when playing tracks

2007-12-23 Thread Alex Mauer
Found this bug in Gutsy. How I duplicated: Select a track, hit play.
Skip back to the beginning, one track at a time. Skip ahead to the
originally selected track. Let it play all the way through, then skip
back tracks.

Unfortunately it only happened once, and I can't duplicate. Just wanted
to note that this bug is still around.

[Bug 105394] Re: Upstart needs some key pressed to show Enter Passphrase on boot / cryptsetup problem

2007-12-23 Thread Kjell Braden
This could indeed be the problem. Try changing /dev/random to /dev/urandom in
/etc/crypttab and check if that fixes the issue.
Note that the random numbers from /dev/urandom are not as random as those from
/dev/random and so it's not as secure.

The alpha2 release of Hardy seems to experience the same problem. It
crashes on startup while loading the hardware drivers. When it doesn't
crash it still gives the message: intel_rng: FWH not detected

I couldn't try the workaround because I can't install because there
seems to be a video driver problem. Tried sudo dpkg-reconfigure
xserver-xorg and choose the right video driver (i810), but no succes.

2007-12-23 Thread sheepeatingtaz
I too can confirm this bug and the workaround. On my machine, I had to
try to upgrade to the hardy version and downgrade, but a couple of
ubuntu-uk users who were having the same problem report that a
straightforward sudo apt-get install hal -reinstall did the trick for
them.

I assume it was a result of upgrading to gutsy in the Beta phase that
meant that a configuration was 'not quite right'

Out of interest I tried the downgrade of libhsqldb-java to the Gutsy

replies I got those with 32 bit architecture don't seem to have a
problem whereas those like myself with 64bit architecture do have it.
Not entirely scientific analysis but it may be worth looking at.

[Bug 178225] can't make a new keyboard shortcut on gnucash menu

2007-12-23 Thread JohnSchoffstall
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnucash

Running Gutsy. This was also present in Feisty.

Gnome should allow the user to create a new application-specific
keyboard shortcut by bringing up a menu, selecting the action, and
pressing a key or keys. For example, I should be able to assign the
'Control-B' key combination to perform 'Blank Transaction' by bringing
up the 'Actions' menu, selecting 'Blank Transaction', and pressing
Control-B. A 'Ctrl+B' should appear in the menu along side 'Blank
Transaction' to indicate the assignment.

However, this doesn't work. Nothing happens.

This does work in some, but not all, other applications. For example, it
works in the Bluefish editor. It does not, however, work in Gedit. It
*should* work in all Gnome applications, I believe.

Before I migrated to Ubuntu, I ran Debian, and it worked in Debian etch,
in all Gnome apps I tried it in, including GnuCash.

It's not a showstopper bug, but it's annoying. Keyboard shortcuts speed
things up. I'd like to assign more of them, and can't.

So that it is not necessary to hardcode the full path to every program

[Bug 59695] Re: High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime

2007-12-23 Thread Matthias Dietrich
Mathieu:

In fact 255 is not a legal value for APM. The ATA/ATAPI spec states clearly
that 255 is reserved. The APM parameter only accepts values up to 254, so
hdparm will never read out 255 as a value for APM. However hdparm accepts -B
255, and in such case, it will send a disable APM command to the harddisk. So
you may perfectly have APM=254 while APM is disabled. The APM setting is just
kept in the drive, but will have no effect, as APM is generally disabled.
Now hdparm is not completely right : the ATA/ATAPI spec also states that the
disable APM command may not be supported on all drives.

To sum up, there are mainly two sorts of harddrives:
- those accepting the disable APM command. For these drives, you may still
read out APM=254 (or whatever you set previously) after applying -B 255 (look
at hdparm's output, it will tell you that APM is disabled).
- those not accepting the disable APM command. These drives will most likely
use 254 as no APM setting.

You are right by saying that we did not really fix anything with this
workaround.

I made some investigations on my brand new laptop, which had Windows
Vista preinstalled. Using the win32 port of hdparm I compared the data
returned by the identify ATAPI command, which is more or less what
hdparm -I returns. I just did this in raw format to avoid hdparm's
interpretations messing around. The harddisk settings (APM, and so on)
are the same under Vista and Ubuntu, but under Vista, there is no
clicking. So either Windows sends additional commands to the drive, or
Linux does it, but I don't think it is just a matter of default
settings. At least the APM settings are the same (APM active, value =
128).

There is an ATAPI command which could produce the same effects (idle
immediate with unload). I wonder whether this is used in the kernel, or
whether the harddisk's firmware could interpret a simple idle command
as idle immediate with unload under certains circumstances.

Matthias

It looks like Hardy Alpha 2 finally solves this problem for me. To my
great pity, I have no time for proper testing (unless I install Hardy as
my working system, which I'm yet afraid of doing), but my usual ways to
reproduce the problem don't work in Hardy, that's for sure.

I'm not sure whether it's a good idea to close this bug yet, as Hardy
isn't released, but when it is, I hope we can finally get this bug down.

[Bug 178231] Kopete no longer lets you change webcam port

2007-12-23 Thread gr1dlocked
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kopete

In previous releases you were able to change the default webcam port from
6891.

When I made the changes in Gutsy they appear to save but when receiving
webcam, kopete always ends up using port 6891.

kopete v 0.12.7

matter if the default webcam port is changed, kopete still forces 6891.

[Bug 178234] Re: GTK themes doesn't work.

2007-12-23 Thread Maxim Levitsky
I confirm this.

I tried to change theme in gtk-qt config page in system-settings, doesn't work.
I even installed gnome-control-center, and tried to change theme there.
Funny though the applet that changes the theme, does change its appearance,
but other applications' look doesn't change.

Same behavior happens with normal and non-root applications.

I am running kubuntu hardy on the system, and it was updated from
feisty.

I tried to add a new user, and log in as this user, and I got same
results.

[Bug 20921] Re: Polish fonts missing some characters

2007-12-23 Thread LimCore
I confirm

some fonts, including Bitstream have trouble with some polish characters like
ó (it should be o with `)

others have trouble with ż (z with a dot on top).

There are like 12 glyphs to do, how they could not get it right?!

Plus, I seen this problem on Debian for like a year and I see it even
today

[Bug 178242] KDM doesn't work in XDMCP mode

2007-12-23 Thread Maxim Levitsky
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdm

KDM crashes, if I connect to it via XDMCP (I use Xephyr)

It shows the login screen,, then I enter username/password, and then it gets
back to
password prompt.

Looking at dmesg, shows (I use 2.6.24-rc6 vanilla kernel, and have no trouble
with it)
Although it seems that apport doesn't work:

[ 4900.558350] kdm[8773]: segfault at eip b7d04fb3 esp bf931d9c
error 4

Trying to gdb the relevant kdm proccess (I used htop to figure it out)
shows this:

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
0xb7d04fb3 in strlen () from /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6
(gdb) bt
#0 0xb7d04fb3 in strlen () from /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6
#1 0xb7e21106 in ?? () from /usr/lib/libdbus-1.so.3
#2 0x in ?? ()
(gdb)

Steps to reproduce:

1) Enable XDMCP by editing

/etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc:
[Xdmcp]
Enable=true

And in
/etc/kde3/kdm/Xaccess, uncomment:
* #any host can get a login window
* CHOOSER BROADCAST #any indirect host can get a chooser

2) Try to connect to the host via XDMCP
Like Xnest -broadcast :1

System running latest hardy.

[Bug 9887] Re: Setterm with ACPI and APM doesn't blank laptop screen correctly.

2007-12-23 Thread Hornett83
Can we re-open this please?

I have a Gutsy server, new clean install which never switches the screen
off when at the terminal. It is blanked, but the backlight is never
switched off - wasting power and decreasing the life of the backlight.
