Wpa works great as well, unfortunately any wpa password longer than 20 characters crashes Ubuntu and locks up the box, oops, nevermind, just checked this forum thread: http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=28063#28063 it seems the password length issue has been resolved for wpa with the rt73 driver from serialmonkey, basically here is how to install: wget http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/rt73-cvs-daily.tar.gz tar zxvf rt73-cvs-daily.tar.gz cd rt73* cd M* make sudo make install sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist append this to the end of the file: # rt73 blacklisted drivers blacklist rt2500usb blacklist rt73usb blacklist rt2x00usb blacklist rt2x00lib blacklist ipv6 now sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart and we shall be connected if /etc/network/interfaces file is configured correctly, here is an example of mine: # WORKING STATIC AES/WPA CONFIG #auto wlan0 #iface wlan0 inet static #address 192.168.1.66 #netmask 255.255.255.0 #gateway 192.168.1.254 #pre-up ifconfig wlan0 up #pre-up iwconfig wlan0 essid 2WIRE #pre-up iwconfig wlan0 mode managed #pre-up iwpriv wlan0 set Channel=9 #pre-up iwpriv wlan0 set AuthMode=WPAPSK #pre-up iwpriv wlan0 set EncrypType=AES #pre-up iwpriv wlan0 set WPAPSK=yourwpapasswd #pre-up iwpriv wlan0 set TxRate=0 # WORKING DYNAMIC AES/WPA CONFIG auto wlan0 iface wlan0 inet dhcp pre-up ifconfig wlan0 up pre-up iwconfig wlan0 essid 2WIRE pre-up iwconfig wlan0 mode managed pre-up iwpriv wlan0 set Channel=10 pre-up iwpriv wlan0 set AuthMode=WPAPSK pre-up iwpriv wlan0 set EncrypType=TKIP pre-up iwpriv wlan0 set WPAPSK=yourwpapasswd pre-up iwpriv wlan0 set TxRate=0 mtu 1500 There we go rt73 working perfectly, now, lets watch and see if the Ubuntu developers can add this wonderful driver to Gutsy and Heron... Re: [Bug 181458] Re: HP laserjet 10XX need new firmware
I used the script from the links, but what the script does is actually similar the same as what is done in bug 96454 (it downloads the firmware for the printers: 1000 1005 1018 1020). But does this mean that if I had attached the printer in hardy it would have worked out-of-box, or would I still have to run hp-setup from the terminal? On 09/01/2008, Till Kamppeter [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: The Ubuntu Linux distribution does not ship firmware files for HP laser printers. The firmware is downloaded from the internet by tools coming with the driver packages (getweb in the foo2zjs package from edgy on and hp-setup in HPLIP from hardy on). So this is not a bug of the Ubuntu ditribution bit a bug of the web sites of the driver suppliers. Therefore I will close this bug report. If you are using Gutsy or older you have most probably used getweb of the foo2zjs package to obtain the firmware (and I assume that HP always provides the newest firmware files for auto download). Before I inform the author of foo2zjs to update his downloadable firmware files, I have one question to you: If you have used getweb to download your firmware file, did you convert the file with arm2hpdl as described in bug 181458: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/foo2zjs/+bug/96454/comments/30 ** Changed in: foo2zjs (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- HP laserjet 10XX need new firmware https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/181458 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. -- HP laserjet 10XX need new firmware https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/181458 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I am not sure in which component the bug is, therefore I have added all these components. I have also subscribed the HPLIP developers at HP so that they investigate the problem. The support of the kernel/udev/libusb folks is also needed. Everything was working fine before applying the general updates from yesterday and the kernel update from the day before yesterday. As these updates do not include HPLIP there is more probability that the bug is outside HPLIP. [Bug 181716] Fills .xsession-errors with Warning: more than one line! spew
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox I discovered a large number of these error messages in my .xsession-errors. Hunting through Google hits for this error message was initially inconclusive, but I think I finally found the culprit. http://www.google.com/codesearch?q=%22Warning%3A+more+than+one+line%21%22hl=enbtnG=Search+Code I have the Popup ALT Attribute extension and previously, that has been preventing these messages (I think) but now that I upgraded to Gutsy, they are back. At a minimum, it would be useful if these messages could indicate which application they come from; but if they are important, perhaps .xsession-errors is not the right place for them, and if they are unimportant, maybe they should simply be suppressed. (Personally, I would favor the latter, or perhaps they could end up in Firefox's error console.) If they have to be printed, standard error would seem marginally more correct than standard output. If the application name cannot reliably be discovered, then surely at least the process ID could be added to the message. [Bug 181720] [postgresql] multiple vulnerabilities
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: postgresql References: MDVSA-2008:004 (http://www.mandriva.com/en/security/advisories?name=MDVSA-2008:004) Quoting: Index Functions Privilege Escalation (CVE-2007-6600): as a unique feature, PostgreSQL allows users to create indexes on the results of user-defined functions, known as expression indexes. This provided two vulnerabilities to privilege escalation: (1) index functions were executed as the superuser and not the table owner during VACUUM and ANALYZE, and (2) that SET ROLE and SET SESSION AUTHORIZATION were permitted within index functions. Regular Expression Denial-of-Service (CVE-2007-4772, CVE-2007-6067, CVE-2007-4769): three separate issues in the regular expression libraries used by PostgreSQL allowed malicious users to initiate a denial-of-service by passing certain regular expressions in SQL queries. First, users could create infinite loops using some specific regular expressions. Second, certain complex regular expressions could consume excessive amounts of memory. Third, out-of-range backref numbers could be used to crash the backend. DBLink Privilege Escalation (CVE-2007-6601): DBLink functions combined with local trust or ident authentication could be used by a malicious user to gain superuser privileges. This issue has been fixed, and does not affect users who have not installed DBLink (an optional module), or who are using password authentication for local access. This same problem was addressed in the previous release cycle (see CVE-2007-3278), but that patch failed to close all forms of the loophole. [Bug 181258] Re: problem about diskless booting
Thanks for answering. I did not built initrams because this step was not in the howto. The client is exactly the same machine as the server, I am only making a test. I know both network cards work fine (at list when used with their local root filesystem). As for your last question I am not sure I understand you. These machines only have one network card and the device is called eth0 everywhere. I never used eth1, eth2 in any step of the diskless procedure. The client is doing a pxe lan boot enabled in its bios. anyway i am going to try your suggestion and include the nic module in the initrams. I guess I have to make the inclusion before I copy the whole filesystem on /nfsroot, isn't it? anyway could you please explain why the stuff now present on the server in the nfs dir (which i call /nfsroot) works fine for local boot on the client and requires this inclusion to work via nfs from the server? once the client receives his ip address and loads the vmlinuz end initrrd file I thought it also loaded the root filesystem, the same which worked fine as a local filesystem! -- problem about diskless booting https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/181258 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This looks like a really bad hack, requiring specific numbers where symbolic names like /dev/hda1 are appropriate. Some comment from the net: UUID must rank as one of the butt-ugliest new 'features'. It makes the once simple fstab almost impossible to read and is causing all sorts of support ... ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- swap not mounted after repartitioning https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/181726 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 178494] Re: Gutsy Install Does Not Ask for User Id
base-installer already warns you as follows: Proceed with installation to unclean target? The target file system contains files from a past installation. These files could cause problems with the installation process, and if you proceed, some of the existing files may be overwritten. You are encountering some of these problems. AW: Re: [Bug 147440] Re: cannot make lirc_i2c kernel module
If it doesn't work with other kernels then it is still a bug :). Can you make sure that the corresponding linux-ubuntu-modules packages are installed for the broken kernel versions? If yes, please file a bug and add the following information: output of dmesg, lsmod, lircd entries in /var/log/daemon.log and /etc/lirc/hardware.conf. Please also create a new bug report for your build problem with lirc- modules-source. -- cannot make lirc_i2c kernel module https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/147440 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
