[Bug 192061] [NEW] [Gutsy] Print tray icon should be visible only when there is a printing job

2008-02-15 Thread François Ingelrest
Public bug reported:

The first time I print something in the current session, the print tray
icon appears in the notification area. Then, instead of being removed
when the job is done, it becomes gray and stays in the notification area
instead of being removed. If I right-click on it, I can select the
hide command, but then it will never appear again in that session.

The icon should appear each time the user starts a printing job, and it
should disappear when the job is done.

I don't have a floppy drive in my own computer, so I could not test it,

  if [ `mount | grep /media/floppy0 | wc -l` -eq 0 ]
  then
 mount /media/floppy0 nautilus /media/floppy0

 nautilus /media/floppy0

Place this in e.g. /usr/bin and place a shortcut on the desktop. This

[Bug 118223] Re: workspace switcher applet

2008-02-15 Thread pescio
Hi, yes it is still an issue. When I switch from a desktop with no 3d effects
to a 3d-normal effects one, I start having problems with the switcher. In
particular:
1. all applications in desktops 2, 3, 4... are positioned to the first one.
Having usually a lot of applications opened I had to manually move them to
their desktops.
2. In 3d-mode Even if I move a window for example from desk 1 to desk 3, I
cannot see the preview in switcher applet, which prevent me from knowing what's
in there.
3. In 3d-mode Changing number of desktops does not work at all. They always
remain the same number.

I'm on a gutsy with latest updates.
thanks and regards

[Bug 192065] [NEW] spam images don't display

2008-02-15 Thread Anton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

This is actually a suggestion, not a bug. (But maybe its a bug :) )

When the thunderbird shows spam mail, it sometimes does not filter out
all images. Would it be possible to configure the Thunderbird in such a
way, that the images are not shown for mail that are considered tobe
spam?

This is important for me, since i have to recheck all the mail, to make shure
that they are indeed spam.
But some mail have inappropriate images, that i would not like to see. So, and
option, that turns off imges would be great.

Thanks

This was fixed the day following the release. a new install all setups
automatic updates. It's part of the update. I had and 8 hour period
from the time i reported the but till the patch was released. IMHO,
that's incredible turn around time, especially when considering the
alternative (Vista) the still haven't release their patches.

Agreed, but its the *buntu way of doing things -- no new software without
the work of installing a full new OS, reinstalling your apps, reconfiguring
everything It makes the LTS releases that much less appealing, IMHO.

[Bug 178558] Re: Firefox 3.0 makes everything annoyingly huge

2008-02-15 Thread Guillermo Pérez
Still this happens with FF beta 3. Fonts are rendered normal (same as
other gnome apps) but icons on the interface are doubled.

This is bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=394103 on
firefox's bugzilla.

I still suggest that:
- The interface should not be scalled. Text is rendered right now same size as
the gnome desktop. Icons should be the same size that the rest of the gnome
desktop.
- Scaling on the page contents could be useful for some people. But usually
people with high dpi screen wants the things small and have a lot of contents
on the screen.
   Posible solutions:
  - Scale only in *really* high dpi screens:
After scaling x2 in a 147dpi screen as mine the base resolution is 147/2= 73
dpi. That's *really* huge. I would consider scaling only when base resolution
is 120-150 dpi when the human eye does not see the separate pixels. i.e. in a
300 dpi screen a x2 zoom would have base resolution of 150 dpi and things will
look pretty. 73 dpi blurried x2 scaled image pixels are not pretty.
  - Ask the user for his preference:
Show a dialog like this:
You screen has been detected to have very high resolution and the pages will be
shown tiny (XX% the normal size on other screens). You can enable a default
page zoom adequate to you screen in the preferences settings.

[Bug 151145] Re: Evince print fails with Postscript driver

2008-02-15 Thread Alex Mandel
Agreed this should get bumped up. I noticed issues before gusty,
anything in evince or kghostview with graphics results in an Error
Operand stack message being printed. Just tried Kpdf on a Gnome install
and it took a while but worked with the BR3 script driver and the
foomatic postscript ppd.

Definitely an issue in the gnome/cups print stack.

Simple reinstallation isn't enough, you need to purge it and then
reinstall. The main issue here was most likely the usage of envy, but
hardy will make envyng officially supported and it works better.

That's not quite true, the packages are installed by default

[Bug 192041] Re: Please sponsor f-spot 0.4.2 into hardy main

2008-02-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package f-spot - 0.4.2-0ubuntu1

---
f-spot (0.4.2-0ubuntu1) hardy; urgency=low

  * New upstream release. (LP: #192041)
  * Dropped patches originally from older upstream SVN:
- 20_refresh-menus-on-extensions.dpatch
- 25_delete-from-disk-throw-exception.dpatch
- 30_fix-infinite-loop.dpatch
- 35_validate-gallery-names.dpatch
- 40_flickr-export-crash.dpatch
- 45_about-dialog.dpatch
  * Dropped detect_and_upgrade_sqlite2_database.dpatch, merged upstream.
  * Dropped 50-fix-missing-G_GNUC_FUNCTION.dpatch, upstream has reworked
the code to remove G_GNUC_FUNCTION.
  * Deleted unused patches that have been since deleted in Debian SVN:
- 01_build-system.dpatch
- 10_cs-changes.dpatch
  * Updated patches for this release:
- forward_port_to_flickrnet_2.1.5.dpatch
- link_system_libs.dpatch
- unlink_nunit.dpatch
  * Updated debian/update_src_to_use_system_libs.sh to correctly substitute
FlickrNet paths.
  * Added galleryexport_rm.dpatch:
- Delete makefile command attempting to
  rm -f /usr/lib/f-spot/extensions/GalleryExport.addin.xml
  * Added disable_bundled_flickrnet_build.dpatch:
- Prevent bundled Mono.Addins and FlickrNet from building (separated from
link_system_libs for ease of maintenance as that patch is autogenerated).

To get your fix included in Ubuntu, it would help if you tried
transforming it into a debdiff

for review (http://wiki.ubuntu.com/SponsorshipProcess). If you prefer
somebody else to do that, that's fine - please just indicate if you're

That's not quite true, the packages are installed by default
unconditionally. The same will happen with dmraid.

When I installed Hardy Alpha 4 from scratch (but with existing LVM

Desktop installer, I don't know if you're talking about the Alternate or

[Bug 187969] Re: Cannot select default keyboard layout in gnome-keyboard-properties

2008-02-15 Thread Vytas
Default only has sense when you have checked separate layout for each window.
It is the default layout for newly appearing windows. If you have global layout
(like I see you do), you start your session with the language first in the list
(USA in your case), that's it.
Maybe it's a minor issue that you cannot move layouts up/down add/just remove
them, but for me this bug seems fixed as such

Confirming this issue on Gutsy Gibbon with FGLRX 8.02 (released 13th Feb 08).
Running with KDM, so I've tried with the following remedies (which did not do
it for me):
 * TerminateServer=true in kdmrc
 * Option  AGPMask0x0005 # Disable 1x and 4x
 * Option  UseInternalAGPGART no

However, I _am_ able to shift to console mode using Ctrl-Alt-Fx and back
to X with no problems, but log outs and Ctrl-Alt-Backspace freezes the
machine so that Caps Lock/Num Lock no longer can be toggled - but SysRq
works.

[Bug 192072] [NEW] nautilus makes files disapear visually

2008-02-15 Thread Oliver Joos
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I use Feisty (7.04) with nautilus 2.18.1-0ubuntu1. But Hardy (8.04) beta
3 live CD is still affected.

Steps to reproduce:
With nautilus open a folder in a list-viewed window which has a non-empty
folder F in it. Unfold folder F by clicking small arrow in front of it. Now
rename folder F without pressing enter or clicking outside afterwards. Instead
click on an object inside folder F to leave renaming. The clicked object
disappears visually!

It works with left and right clicks, on files and subfolders. By
repeating it, further objects may get disappeared. Clicking small arrow
twice does not help. Even pressing F5 to refresh does not help always.
Fortunately, reopening the nautilus window always brings objects back to
existence.

Kind regards,
Oliver

[Bug 191921] Re: Strange UI for Firefox 3.0b3

2008-02-15 Thread eTM
tab and spaces where mixed. Now it should be clearer.

1) the engine needs more cleanup, I can also port it to pango if this is
desired/ensures that it stays.
2) the themes need some (careful) color changes, see first shot, so that input
fields not disappear on white webpages.

[Bug 187969] Re: Cannot select default keyboard layout in gnome-keyboard-properties

2008-02-15 Thread Marc D.
Vytas: thanks for the info. I tried dragging my desired layout to the
top and that seemed to work. It would be more logical though if one
could just select it as the default, even in a global layout but that's
a minor thing indeed.

[Bug 192078] [NEW] installation impossible: Dell USB-keyboard doesn't work

2008-02-15 Thread Lieven
Public bug reported:

When trying to install hardy alpha 4 using the alternate install CD, the
keyboard stops working once I see the ubuntu-logo (when the screen says
install in text mode, OEM install, install a command-line system, and so
on).

It's impossible to start the installation, because I simply can't press
enter on install in text mode. In fact, I can do nothing but watch the
screen. I've tried reconnecting the keyboard, even to another USB-port,
but no luck.

I'm using a Dell Dimension 9150 with a Dell USB-keyboard. I can not use
a PS2 keyboard, because there are no such connectors in the system.
