[Bug 191137] Re: Hardy boots only in recovery mode on VAIO FE41Z

2008-02-18 Thread Vladimir Meremyanin
Removed battery and unplugged power cord for a few seconds, and
2.6.24-8-generic started without any problems!

I think it should handle somehow 'wrong' (or what it was) acpi states,
since vista loaded fine without battery removal.

[Bug 185000] Re: Can't log in wihout failsafe terminal

2008-02-18 Thread Alexander Rødseth
The version of xorg is at the top of the Xorg.0.log I attached 2008-01-22.
The version of Ubuntu is Hardy. As mentioned, the kernel I used was
2.6.24-4-generic, which was the latest kernel at that time.

I'm pretty convinced that this is the fault of Autopackage, since the
error-message that appeared in connection with startx mentioned that
particular line in /etc/profile.

With the tickless kernel setting (CONFIG_NO_HZ) being set in 2.4.24.8,
one should also see (small) power savings because of less wakeup ticks
per second.

[Bug 185879] Re: loading wacom breaks server (signal 11) during start of gnome-session

2008-02-18 Thread Sven Herzberg
I do have one, but it doesn't contain the settings for the wacom devices
anymore. This used to be working out of the box quite some time ago; and
we should really push Ubuntu to support it out of the box again (eg.
with only a live-cd and no config-file changes).

It works with Ubuntu to me doesn't include manual fixes. Out of the
box, that what works means for me (and as I said: it used to work).

Thanks for your bug report and for your contribution to ubuntu. Can you
boot your computer without splash and quiet to get more detailed
outputs which cause this slow boot process? You can do this by following
these steps :

1.Press Esc during Grub boot delay to access the boot menu.
2.Select your actual Ubuntu boot line and press e to edit it.
3.Select the kernel line and press e to edit it.
   4. At the end of the line, remove splash and quiet and press enter.

[Bug 192849] [NEW] Freeze exception for session plugin

2008-02-18 Thread Michael Vogt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

I would like to ask for a freeze exception for compiz to get the new
session plugin in for hardy. This supersedes the build in session
management support in compiz and is on-par with metacity. It knowns
about size/workspace/position of the windows and puts them there again
on session restore.

This change involves a ABI bump for the plugins so new compiz/plugins-
main/plugins-extra/libcompizconfig uploads are required.

[Bug 192764] Re: nautilus crashes with anything to do with /home/user/Desktop

2008-02-18 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Will it make it into -proposed or -backports?

It will go to hardy for now. I'll see if it's suitable to request a backport to
Gutsy, but that will need backporting libcrypto++ too.

[Bug 123223] Re: page_mapcount(page) went negative

2008-02-18 Thread ChrisLees
Russ Price: You've got an Athlon X2, I've got a Core 2 Duo; yet we both

On a really hot day, when I'm video encoding without the air con turned

assume that's the incorrect temperature; the room temp is 40 degrees C

Thanks for this bug report. There is reasons why framebuffer are
disabled, however you should still be able to use console without
framebuffers. Since you can't access consoles, can you give us more
information about this particular bug?

1. Can you confirm that this bug is really usplash-related by booting
your computer without usplash? You can disable usplash one time by
following these steps :

   1. Press Esc during Grub boot delay to access the boot menu.
   2. Select your actual Ubuntu boot line and press e to edit it.
   3. Select the kernel line and press e to edit it.
   4. At the end of the line, remove splash and quiet and press enter.
   5. Type b to boot the custom boot line.

2. Can you attach the file created by this command on a terminal : lspci
-vvnn lspci-vvnn.txt

[Bug 192764] Re: nautilus crashes with anything to do with /home/user/Desktop

2008-02-18 Thread mmnz
Hi,

There is no .crash file in /var/crash.

I notice in the last line of the terminal output its says:
b5cdd000-b5d05000 r-xp 03:02 561682
/usr/lib/libgssapi_krb5.so.2.Aborted (core dumped)

core dumped? Does this mean i can find a 'core' and upload that?
Perhaps this is useful? Where are these core's dumped to?

[Bug 159739] Re: No border and jerky playback on tv-out

2008-02-18 Thread Nixus Maximus
The link is http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/125182/?highlight= , though it's
a German forum.
The problem disappeared for my configuration with the tv-out (I do not know
why, probably due to an update). I don't know if a two monitor configuration
works now as well.

Cheers,
NM

[Bug 105906] Re: [Hardy] [patch] Default font Times does not exist

2008-02-18 Thread Milan
You're right, this is stupid because ideally the default font should be chosen
by oowriter according to what fonts are present. But since the Nimbus and Free
fonts are a dependency of ubuntu-desktop, they are installed by default on all
desktops and are not likely to be removed.
OTOH, using Times is a real issue since, although you solve the hardcoding
issue, you hardcode the name of a *font* that does not exist: you're not just
saying to oowriter to use the *font family* Times. Using this trick is really
bad:
- users don't see the real name of the font: when they want to go back to this
font from another one, they look for Times and don't find it - what's this
magical font?!
- on Windows, oowriter uses a real font, Times New Roman
- Ubuntu should promote the free fonts it provides, and tell their names -
people will understand better the issues of changing layouts when going to
Windows/Office

I cannot understand your stance here: what's the point in using a
Times alias that can match several fonts? Maybe my patch is wrong, but
at least th current situation has to be solved. No other distribution is
doing this, and we need to patch Debian for that.

Cheers

[Bug 35876] Re: 'Downloading package information' and 'building dependency tree' progress dialogs steal focus

2008-02-18 Thread Olivier
I confirm the bug exists on gutsy and is realy annoying since we need to run
that application almost every day and each time it steals the focus.
update manager is key application in ubuntu so I would expect it to behave
cleanly. Currently it looks like a program from 1980 with subwindows/ dialogs
poping up everywhere and terminal output that does not event tell us when the
process is finished.
