[Bug 194953] Re: gnome-system-monitor resources graphs unstable on window resize

2008-02-26 Thread Andrew Bowers
This may be related to bug #187383, ...That looks like slow cairo
rendering and like and xorg or driver limitation. I can confirm that
Xorg is using all the CPU. Changing the System Monitor resources update
interval makes no difference, however.

I have tried the problem with the default driver, and with nvidia-glx
installed. No difference.

Where do I find Xorg.0.log ?

2008-02-26 Thread Sergio Zanchetta
Thank you very much for the feedback.

Unfortunately I don't think to have necessary skills to do this yet.

Is there someone out there interested in doing the work about conexant
modem driver?

I hope someone answer my call.

2008/2/26, Steve Langasek [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
As a freeze exception candidate, this is fine; the kernel team have
reasonable autonomy to add drivers to enable hardware that would
otherwise be unsupported by Ubuntu. But that doesn't mean anyone has
volunteered to do the work to get this into hardy. Freeze exception
requests should come from developers who are willing to do the work.

Re: [Bug 124797] Re: CPU Frequency Scaling Monitor applet on dual-core doesn't work after resume

2008-02-26 Thread Russell Sears
I've been running 2.6.24-? on gutsy for weeks with no real problems. If
you're worried, make sure it doesn't pull too much hardy stuff in...
Last I checked, 2.6.24 didn't require very many (any?) package upgrades.
(I haven't had a chance to play with the most recent one...)

The old kernel should show up in grub, so you can still boot into it
after installing 2.6.24.

Re: [Bug 63565] Re: kscreensaver shows garbage in dual screen mode in the area which is not 3d (opengl) capable.

2008-02-26 Thread Moreno Bartalucci
Yes, the bug is still fully there.
Tried this morning with Kubuntu Hardy updated recently (a few days ago).

I tried it on a laptop Compaq/HP nw8000 (the same one I was using at the bug
report time).

Now the configuration of the dual head is changed (MergedFB is no more active,
I had to figure out how to use xrandr).

Furthermore, the screensaver GL i used for the test is almost unusable because
it's extremely slow (if I remember well it wasn't so slow with Dapper), but
this behaviour could be due to some other settings.
The screen saver I tried is Euphoria.

In the meantime I changed notebook but I still have the old one for
testing.

[Bug 195700] [NEW] [xine-lib] [CVE-2008-0486] possible buffer overflow in the FLAC audio demuxer

2008-02-26 Thread hk47
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

References:
MDVSA-2008:046
(http://www.mandriva.com/en/security/advisories?name=MDVSA-2008:046)
MDVSA-2008:046-1
(http://www.mandriva.com/en/security/advisories?name=MDVSA-2008:046-1)

Quoting MDVSA-2008:046:
An array index vulnerability found in the FLAC audio demuxer might
allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted FLAC
tag, which triggers a buffer overflow. Although originally an MPlayer
issue, it also affects xine-lib due to code similarity.

Quoting MDVSA-2008:046-1:
[...] The previous update used a bad patch which made Amarok interface
very unresponsive while playing FLAC files. This new update fixes
the security issue with a better patch.

** Affects: xine-lib (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Visibility changed to: Public

** CVE added: http://www.cve.mitre.org/cgi-

HI. I'm on Hardy.

2008-02-26 Thread Mark A. Hershberger
I had this problem after doing a fresh installation of Gutsy and then
running aptititude dist-upgrade with a local copy of the Ubuntu
repository.

To resolve it, I uninstalled ubuntu-desktop (and everything that it
automatically pulls in) and then re-installed it. I got some errors
(related to dbus or udev?) about power-manager settings but those are
gone now.

an Pentium3 with 1GHz and 512MB Ram. So i have 256 for the Host-System
and 256 for the Guest-System (it's not what i would call fast, but it
works). I just start the Hardy-Alpha in the VM and the first thing i do
is, i start the update-manager an nothing happens. The update-manger
doesn't proceed because he's waiting for gksu. So i have to kill the
gksu-process, wait for the update-manager and press the install update-

It'd be nice if you could adhere to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebianMaintainerField (update-maintainer of the
ubuntu-dev-tools package should do it automatically for you).

Also it'd be great if you could list this bug in debian/changelog too,
that way it'll be automatically closed on upload.

  * Bug fix upload (LP: #195540)
   - Fixed incorrect error saving image (LP: #195113)
   - Fixed random problems importing PDF (LP: #195416)
   - Set default frontend (LP: #195417)
   - Fixed about dialog (LP: #195418)
  * debian/control: adhere to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebianMaintainerField

is something I'd suggest.

hangs when I try to unplug my cdrom-drive or harddrive from the ultrabay
on hardy alpha5 with current updates. They are, of course, not mounted.
Normally, this should create an acpi-event which gets handled by acpid
(?) (which was not the case in 7.10 - event occured but nothing
happened; no crash). I recognize that this bug is not ubuntu-specific
since it also happens in the vanilla kernel (2.6.24.x) and it should
also not be thinkpad-acpi related since it does not handle the bay-
events by default any more. I think the bug is in the bay-handler in the
2.6.24-tree of the kernel. I don't know what logfiles to post since my
system totally locks up when the problem occures but feel free to ask me
for some.

Status in Source Package mythtv in Ubuntu: Fix Released

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: mythtv

I upgraded from Gutsy to Hardy, I now can not play highDef through MythTv.
I just get a black screen. I can not escape from it, but Have to kill the
process in a terminal to get out of it. I am able to watch them in vlc,
but it doesn't play as smooth as it did in Hardy.

It will show up normally on your mirror in the next day or so.

using a 1920x1200 resolution (I am also using this resolution).

[Bug 195704] [NEW] [needs-packaging] LilyKDE

2008-02-26 Thread Wouter Stomp
Public bug reported:

LilyKDE

This is a set of tools to integrate the very fine LilyPond music
typesetter into KDE.

It currently consists of:

* a Kate plugin that can run LilyPond for you, embedding a PDF preview
right into Kate and other nice things.
* A textedit service so you can click on the notes in the preview (or any
other PDF viewer) and have Kate jump to the correct position. You can also
click on error messages in the log window to jump to the correct place.
* Powerful LilyPond syntax highlighting (already part of KDE)
* An icon and mimetype for .ly files

[Bug 194013] Re: [Hardy] font rendering in openoffice not consistent with other applications

2008-02-26 Thread Jan Rathmann
I investigated a little further and I think OpenOffice uses the same
font for the user interface as normal gnome applications, since Use
system font for user interface in the OpenOffice configuration is
enabled by default (Tools - Options - OpenOffice.org - View).

It seems to have an influence which hinting method is selected in System
- Appearance - Fonts. By default Best shapes is selected which means
hinting is set to medium (if you click on Details). If you select
Best contrast instead, hinting is set to full which doesn't make a
visible difference to normal gnome-application compared to Best
shape. But the OpenOffice interface looks now the same than gnome
applications (if you restart OO).

You can see the different of the look of OO in the two screenshots
attached below. What I found interesting is that also the (default)
document font is rendered differently, as you can see, to me the
document text looks better from a subjective point of view with medium
hinting.

Kind regards,
Jan

[Bug 121653] Re: [gutsy] fglrx breaks over suspend/resume

2008-02-26 Thread Yan Li
Shoofy, I understand your situation. Suspend/hibernation is a very
complex function and highly hardware-related. On my own machine I have
to do some hacks to make it work flawless.

What I meant is that the problem mentioned in _this_ bug report is
fixed. The problem here is that suspend breaks on all machine running
Ubuntu due to kernel/driver incompatibility. So as to my understanding,
if the work on kernel side is done, with latest ATI driver shipped, that
makes the suspend/hibernation on some users' machine possible, we can
close this bug.

And I'm sure there's many other people's computer still can't
suspend/hibernation with the latest kernel, then I think the best way to
solve their problems is to *fill bugs for each special hardware* so they
can talk with people with similar hardware and the problem would be
handled in a more efficient and reproducible way. Like suspend doesn't
work on IBM ThinkPad X60 or suspend doesn't work on Dell E1505.

HTH.

[Bug 195703] Re: Thinkpad Ultrabay produces a fatal hang when unplugging devices on a T61

2008-02-26 Thread Christian Lachner
Ok, I switched to a terminal an removed my cdrom-drive. The last thing I get on
my console is:
  [ 554.587280] ata1: exception Emask 0x10 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0xa frozen
  [ 554.587505] ata1: ACPI event
After that the systems hangs. Of course there is a great chance for a data loss.

I recognize that I didn't post in hardy but in general ubuntu... Can
someone please move the topic over to hardy?

thanks in advance!

Thanks for these precious informations. Since you can't access consoles
even without usplash and that this bug happens with the Radeon 9200 pro
graphic card, I set this bug report as a duplicate of bug 81206. further
discussions should take place on that bug report. If you see that
there's some missing informations on that bug report that you can
provide, I invite you to do so. Concerning your comptuer #2, if you can
also reproduce the problem on a fresh install of ubuntu Gutsy, I suggest
you to open another bug report with a detailed description, the name of
your graphic card and your lspci-nnvv.txt file for this computer. Thanks
again for all the time you spent on that bug.

2008-02-26 Thread aregr
Actually sqsh didn't crash. So its not an error. It only a question of bad
error reporting and a confusing (unrelated) warning message.

Try starting

sqsh -S localhost

and you will probably have a better errormessage ...

[Bug 195705] [NEW] Hardy Alpha5: Totem crashes when switching between streams (radio channels )

2008-02-26 Thread moma
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I have some Norwegian radio channels which I listen to via the Totem
media player. Sometimes Totem crashes when I switch to a new radio
channel (stream).

I normally use the Streamtuner application to keep track of radio channel names
their URLs. Streamtuner also starts the Totem media player to play the stream
when I select a channel.
See picture picture_1: http://www.futuredesktop.org/images/gutsy/picture_8c.jpg
and picture_2: http://www.edbl.no/tmp/hardy/alpha5/streamtuner.png

The error is:
Totem crashes when I switch from radio URL NRK Alltid Nyheter (
http://radio.hiof.no/nrk-alltid-nyheter-172.ogg ) to Kanal 24 (
mms://live.alleredge.com/AE_Kanal24_High ). If I restart the Kanal 24 couple
of times, Totem will most likely crash and disappears from the desktop. It
just quits without error message.

Streamtuner is totally irrelevant here. So I created a tiny shell script
that feeds two URLs to the Totem media player. It makes Totem crash
repeatedly (every time).

Here is the script: http://www.edbl.no/tmp/hardy/alpha5/radio1.sh

Get it:
$ wget http://www.edbl.no/tmp/hardy/alpha5/radio1.sh

Run it
$ sh radio1.sh

Totem will most likely crash when the script sends it the URLs.
The question is: Why does not Totem tolerate fast switching from one stream
URL to another?

This is a very tiny bug (if bug at all), but it still needs an explanation ;-)

Additional information:

Here is my streamtuner settings (files) with some radio streams to test with.
Do
$ sudo apt-get install streamtuner streamripper
$ cd $HOME
$ wget http://www.edbl.no/tmp/hardy/alpha5/streamtuner.tar
$ tar -xvf streamtuner.tar

Start it
$ streamtuner
# Note: Streamtuner is old and hardly maintained anymore.

BTW: A collection of all world's radio channels. Enjoy.

[Bug 195679] Re: pidgin does not have Save button to save browser preferences

2008-02-26 Thread Parthan
It is indeed about pidgin. All online service related applications have
a browser settings which specified the default browser for the
application to use for opening links in the text. In still laymen terms,
when you send a link to your friend on IM and when the friend clicks on
the link, the link is opened in the browser as specified in the browser
settings. If there is no option for browser settings then the
application might use the default browser of the desktop environment
(which is set using preferred applications). If there is a browser
settings, then it is used as the preferred browser to open the links.

I will check Pidgin in Hardy and confirm (or fix released) this bug
asap.

[Bug 195707] [NEW] Please upgrade Nvidia binary driver to 169.09

2008-02-26 Thread Sebastien Vajda
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22-14-generic

In Gutsy, the version of the binary Nvidia driver is still 100.14.19.
This version was released in September last year.

I have now a new NVIDIA GPU whose model is not supported by the old
driver.

Could you please update the driver to the latest version available, 169.09.
This new version is a bug fix on 169.07 which introduced support for the
following new GPU:
