[Bug 199304] Re: [wishlist] Please integrate fglrx 8.03

2008-03-09 Thread nclm
This is a critical bugfix release that solves a lot of problems
especially with firegl / workstations graphics and resolutions mod 64 !=
0

For me that means that in catalyst 8.02 3D didn't worked at all, it was
corrupted, and the gnome screensaver flickered. I'm using a Mobility
FireGL V3200 with SXGA+ on a Thinkpad T43p.

[Bug 135574] Re: installing kde-systemsettings in GNOME spams menu

2008-03-09 Thread Pelladi Gabor
Hardy is now close to it's release, it will be the last Kubuntu to ship
KDE 3, and it won't be an LTS like Ubuntu. If this bug doesn't have a
trivial fix, then I think it is not worth spending time on this issue.
There are much more serious problems to care for. KDE 4 is working as
expected, that is more important for the future.

[Bug 125687] Re: Samba does not start on boot.

2008-03-09 Thread Steve Langasek
Upstream has made some adjustments to nmbd in samba 3.0.28a so that it
will wait when the interfaces have gone away, but I don't know if this
affects the behavior on startup.

If it doesn't, then I think what we want here is an if-up.d script to
try to start nmbd whenever the network comes back.

The big difference that I am seeing between the 2 versions is that the KDE 3
version is using .menu files whereas the KDE 4 version is using .desktop files.
I am not 100% on how Gnome reacts with the .menu files, but still, we need to
look into this as KDE 3 isn't going anywhere any time soon. Thanks for the

[Bug 200081] [NEW] loadkeys mangles key redefinitions

2008-03-09 Thread frotz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: console-tools

This problem affects console-tools 0.2.3 installed from apt on Ubuntu
8.04 (Hardy Heron) Alpha 6.

I want to redefine the console caps-lock to control, so I follow this[1]
tried-and-true procedure:

Here's the keymapping before the change:
  $ dumpkeys |grep -i keycode  58
  keycode  58 = Caps_Lock

Here's the command to change the caps-lock key to control:
  $ echo keycode 58 = Control |loadkeys -

Now, here it is afterwards
  $ dumpkeys |grep -i keycode  58
  keycode  58 = Control  Caps_LockCaps_LockCaps_Lock
Caps_LockCaps_LockCaps_LockCaps_Lock
Caps_LockCaps_LockCaps_LockCaps_Lock
Caps_LockCaps_LockCaps_LockCaps_Lock

With keycode 58 set like this, the new control key behaves erratically.
At first it behaves like a control key, then it sometimes toggles caps-
lock, then sometimes emits random control characters, usually ^S and ^D.

[Bug 110246] Re: Firefox main window losing focus performing certain tasks on gmail

2008-03-09 Thread Mike Lundy
I can confirm that there are focus problems with firefox 3 and gmail.
Easiest way to reproduce problem:
1) Go to Gmail settings, turn on keyboard shortcuts (make sure to save changes)
2) Go to https://mail.google.com (it's important to trigger a full reload- just
going back to the inbox isn't good enough)
3) Hit j. Expected behavior is to move the arrow down. It does not.
4) Click to the right of the 'refresh' button (clicking into the mail frame)
5) Hit j. Arrow now moves down as expected

Alternate way to fix it:
4) Hit shift-tab 4 times, moving the focus backward though the list until it
lands on the right frame.
5) Hit j, Arrow now moves down as expected

Various gmail operations will land the focus into an odd state. For
instance, doing a search seems to put the focus one item beyond where it
should be (shift-tab once will fix it).

Hopefully that'll provide a place to start. If you have more questions,
I'll respond :)

[Bug 200065] Re: My big bug report

2008-03-09 Thread kripkenstein
Hi jacob,

Thanks for finding bugs. However, putting them all in a single big file
in this way is not the usual procedure, most likely this will be
unnoticed due to the large number of more correctly, formally filed
bugs.

If you want to mention bugs informally in one big file, as you did, then
let me suggest that you do so in the Hardy Heron Forum on Ubuntuforums,

http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=305

This isn't as good as filing bugs formally, but perhaps informal
discussion there will clarify things and lead to formal bug filing (by
you or by others). On the upside it can be fun and you generally get
quick responses (in minutes or hours) by other users.

Alternatively, you can file a separate bug, using the normal manner,
here on Launchpad, one for each bug. See e.g.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs for guidelines on doing
so, also, you can take a look at other filed bugs to see what the
conventions are.

[Bug 199886] Re: Audioscrobbler errors

2008-03-09 Thread Dominik Boehi
The basic upload works.

But as I found out, the problem with this error is not the upload,
but the Now listenting function.Usually I can see the song currently playing
marked as now listening on the last.fm site on my profile (see screenshot).
But sometimes I get the error message I posted and I can't see it on last.fm
(marked as now listening).

[Bug 128170] Re: No 1:1 dimensions on screen (WYSIWYG)

2008-03-09 Thread M. Pauschel
Use the word-processor you like, open a new file, set the page-size to
the one which matches with the sheets stashed in your printer, take one
leaf out and hold this real piece of paper (which is 21 cm wide in case
of DIN A4) at the one displayed on the screen. Both must be congruent.

My labtop's screen was even wrongly detected then, the correct values are:
$ xdpyinfo | grep -B1 dot /dimensions:1280x800 pixels (303x190
millimeters)/resolution:107x107 dots per inch --
107dpi means, that 1 inch span contains 107 dots. I can take a ruler and 1 on
screen is exactly what my ruler measures as well.

I don't know if Kubuntu has fixed the bug, because I use another distro
meanwhile.

[Bug 197064] Re: Hibernate fails on Centrino-laptop

2008-03-09 Thread Simon Kagstrom
I'm also seeing this on my X41 laptop. However, the attached patch makes
hibernation shutdown my computer correctly (and also starts up
afterwards). The patch is taken from this thread on LKML:

  http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.kernel.suspend.devel/4575

In particular this mail from Rafael J. Wysocki:

http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.kernel.suspend.devel/4575/focus=4620

It applies with some fuzz on 2.6.24-3 (the kernel source version when I
built it). I saw in the kernel changelogs that 2.6.24-10.16 had this
message:

linux (2.6.24-10.16) hardy; urgency=low
  [...]
  * Update drm and i915 drm driver to fix suspend issues.
- LP: #189260

and I'm not sure what that particular part really means, it seems to be
related to this error.

It would be nice if someone else could try this patch and it would be great if
a fix for this problem could be included in the hardy release. Thanks!

I can easily reproduce the klauncher[4754]: segfault at b7f4b2e4 eip b738725e

1. /opt/kvm/bin/qemu-system-x86_64 -net nic -net tap,ifname=tap0 -m 512
kubuntu.qcow2
2. after login klaunch and xorg will crash
3. workaround:
reduce screen resolution, so i edited sudo vim /etc/X11/xorg.conf and set
Depth 16

Ubuntu with Gnome do not have this issue with biger resolution.

[Bug 200085] [NEW] Tracker-applet can't be translated

2008-03-09 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tracker-search-tool

The tracker-search-tool utility (which appears when you right-click on
the magnifying glass icon in the GNOME notification area) appear in
English in my Spanish desktop, and can't be translated because its
strings aren't in its Launchpad template:

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/hardy/+source/tracker/+pots/tracker/es/+translate

Some untranslated (and untranslatable) strings are:

_Pause All Indexing
_Search
_Re-index
_Preferences
_Indexer Preferences
_About

When you click on Preferences, a dialog box appears with the following
untranslated  untranslatable strings:

Applet Preferences (the dialog box title)
Animation
Animate _icon when indexing
Visibility
_Hide Icon (except when displaying messages to user)
Smart Pausing
_Off
_Automatically pause all indexing when computer is in active use
Automatically _pause if indexing may degrade performance of other applications

[Bug 33649] Re: root raid installs have bad grub config

2008-03-09 Thread Max Waterman
I think I just saw this problem when I installed gutsy from the
alternate cd.

I have an existing RAID5 array on /dev/hd[cegi] and /dev/[cbef] which is
/dev/md2, and installed to /dev/sd[ab]1, with swap on /dev/sd[ab]5.

The installation went pretty much as expected (considering I had a
previous FC6 RAID1 installation on there), but the reboot failed.

To make it work, I had to edit boot from hd(4,0) to hd(0,0).

That this works has me confused since the /boot/grub/device.map has
/dev/sdb as hd(4,0), so hd(4,0) is the correct device and should work.

[Bug 185551] Re: hardy, krita-kde4 doesn't start, complains about .desktop files not found

2008-03-09 Thread Christian Schuerer
Some more information on this bug.

I installed krita-kde4 and tried to start it in my kde3-session, which
leads to the above stated error message. If I open an kde4-session,
krita-kde4 starts without any problem. When I switch back to the
kde3-session, I can start krita-kde4 without any error message.

So I think there are some processes not running or some initialisation
is missing if you try to run krita-kde4 within a kde3 session.

Could anyone verify if this is the same behaviour on other computers
too, please?

[Bug 197064] Re: Hibernate fails on Centrino-laptop

2008-03-09 Thread Simon Kagstrom
Sorry about the noise, but I think the final patch for this issue is
this:

  http://lkml.org/lkml/2008/2/23/269

It's apparently not directly caused by i915, and I suppose what was
testing before might have been this (from kernel/power/disk.c):

int hibernation_platform_enter(void)
{
[...]
local_irq_disable();
error = device_power_down(PMSG_SUSPEND);
if (!error) {
hibernation_ops-enter();
/* We should never get here */
while (1);
}
local_irq_enable();

At least it looks like an infinite loop to me (being stuck and heating
up with the fan running etc).

[Bug 69085] Re: System Settings changes configuration files (makes fonts blurry) even without me applying any changes

2008-03-09 Thread Frank Siegert
I cannot test on the same laptop as before, and with my new laptop I don't see
blurry fonts anymore on 7.10.
But the system settings still write out .fonts.conf and .fonts/ even if I
don't change or apply anything (you should be able to confirm that?). I don't
know, whether this can still screw up somebody's setup. So if you are sure that
this does not hurt, and nobody else sees blurry fonts, go ahead and close this
bug.

[Bug 200092] [NEW] Untranslatable string in policykit authentication dialog box

[Bug 178431] Re: version 2.0.8 has been released

2008-03-09 Thread A86yes
I add my vote to get 2.0.8 in Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Hardy)! On March 13 (in a
few days), there's something happening called Beta Freeze
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardyReleaseSchedule), so maybe it's too late.

It would be very good to have 2.0.8 in Ubuntu, because, as far as I
know, now it officially supports the recently approved OpenPGP standard
allowing the new type of DSA signatures. Also, it supports the
generation of these signatures (2.0.7 doesn't).

It would be a big pity if this LTS release was stuck with not only an
outdated version, but also a version that supports an old, superseded
version of an important standard -- and at the same time the new version
is in Debian -- http://packages.debian.org/sid/gnupg2
