[Bug 200869] [NEW] expo splits across screens in twinview
Public bug reported: When I use expo with twinview in the latest updated Hardy release, it's split across both of my monitors, making it really hard to see, rather than just in my primary monitor. My xorg.conf was largely generated by nvidia-settings. Most things seem to work just fine, including scale and moving workspaces (the workspace display block appears in the center of the primary monitor). ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- expo splits across screens in twinview https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/200869 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 145887] Re: Gutsy Beta: Tablet Notebook's Stylus Not Working
All you need to do is uncomment those lines in xorg.conf and it works, so why not just do that? Or, why not just go back to what Feisty did, since it worked? On Mon, Mar 10, 2008 at 10:45 PM, Bryce Harrington [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Upstream's input-hotplug+HAL was not stable enough for Hardy so we've postponed the work until Hardy+1. Additionally, I'm not certain the wacom driver was updated to take advantage of input hotplug anyway. Anyway, this bug cannot be solved for hardy, so we need to postpone it. If wacom input-hotplug is still not ready in hardy+1, an alternative would be to create an xorg.conf modification utility (similar to displayconfig-gtk but for general changes including input devices). Re: [Bug 196429] Re: evince/evolution/gtk-print-dialog printing and system-config-printer fail when using client.conf with IP address for which there is no reverse look-up available
On Sat, Mar 08, 2008 at 03:05:09PM -, Sebastien Bacher wrote: Could you describe easy steps to create the issue? I assume you have some sort of non-network printer being served by a cups server on machine 192.168.1.16 (any IP will do). On a client machine edit /etc/cups/client.conf so it reads ServerName 192.168.1.16 Arrange for there to be no reverse DNS mapping for 192.168.1.16 on your client machine. That would mean make sure it is not defined in /etc/hosts, and that your DNS server has no reverse resolution for 192.168.1.16. I would suggest getting rid of any forward resolution if you want to be extra sure. Make sure there are no caching DNS data tables laying about on the client machine. Basically you want this command % host 192.168.1.16 to return Host 16.1.186.192.in-addr.arpa not found: 3(NXDOMAIN) on the client machine. restart cupsys on the client machine. Use the GTK print dialog from evince or the system menu print configurator. The GTK print dialog will show a greyed out print button. The print configurator will report an error reaching cups. I was working with a network printer and it worked via lpr and in fact any tool that did not rely on the GTK print dialog. Evince and evolution were clearly broken. As was the system printer configurator via the menu. It kept dying after reporting an error connecting to cups. I could use xpdf instead of evince and print fine. I could also use the GTK dialog to print to a file and then send the file to the printer using any non-GTK tool. In /etc/cups/client.conf I had put ServerName 192.168.1.16 In the end the problem was that I did not have an entry in /etc/hosts for 192.168.1.16. If I add an entry like 192.168.1.16 printer.mydomain.tld printer then everything works well including evince and evolution. Without that entry or a similar one in /etc/hosts, all the programs that use the GTK print dialog malfunction and the system print configurator dies. -- evince/evolution/gtk-print-dialog printing and system-config-printer fail when using client.conf with IP address for which there is no reverse look-up available https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/196429 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: The Gnome Screenshot application, gnome-screenshot, doesn't show an entry in the lower task bar and isn't reachable via ALT+TAB. [Bug 200874] [NEW] Sound Card disabled in BIOS being used
Public bug reported: I have disabled my on-board VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 60) on my KT600 motherboard, yet it's still showing up on lspci and is selected as the default device despite my PCI C-Media CM8738 being the one I need to use. Windows does not pick up on the sound device when I disable it via the BIOS, Linux really shouldn't either. This might be an upstream problem, but this is a very potentially confusing issue for those with a disabled sound card. [Bug 200875] [NEW] firefox 3 + compiz window decoration oddities
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz I'm not sure if this is a Firefox 3 or compiz issue so I won't set the package just yet. As I move to different pages in Firefox 3 on the latest up to date Hardy (as of March 11 at 2:29 AM EST), the top title bar/window decoration does a few weird things from time to time. A gray stripe will sometimes blank out the top of the window decoration, with the lower half acting normally, and sometimes the entire top window decoration turns gray as if the window lost focus, but the title bar text is also gone. This seems to be compiz related but I'm not positive. Other applications don't seem to be having the issue, so it may also have some Firefox 3 roots. I'm not positive but this looks like it might only happen while in full screen. Also of important note is that I'm using twinview on a nvidia 6600 with moderate desktop effects enabled via the Appearance tab. This might have something to do with partial transparencies in Window decorations. Sorry I can't be more helpful, but let me know how I can help. [Bug 199030] Re: Can't close SCIM
This bug has been resolved in the latest scim, scim-bridge and language-selector packages. Also, the current daily live CD image is fine. This bug only affects those folks who are using Hardy for a longer time already and updated frequently. The proper way to disable scim is: 1. System - Administration - Language Support 2. uncheck the 'Enable support to enter complex characters' checkbox 3. restart your X session by logout/re-login or if this doesn't do the trick, reboot. If this still does not do the trick, the following will definitely do: Open a terminal window and type: sudo im-switch -z all_ALL -s none After that, restart your X session. Explanation: scim is running as daemon under the control of im-switch. To allow scim to grab the keyboard input, a bunch of environment variables need to be set within the X session. Toggeling the checkbox in Language Support will set/unset those variables. To get the changes into effect, a restart of the running X session is required. Background: For scim to work correctly in Ubuntu, the combination of im-switch, scim and language-selector is required, as well as several optional scim-modules for the actual input methods. Before Hardy, the im-switch package was not seeded into the default desktop (and therefor into the live CD), which made it impossible to get scim working on the live CD without installing the language support packages for one of the CJK languages. As scim is also used by many other non-CJK users who don't have appropriate keyboard layouts available for their desired languages, we decided to seed im-switch, so that it can be used on the Live CD as well. Some time in the past (during the Hardy development cycle), the function in Language Support to set/unset he environment variables, stopped working correctly and the environment variables got enabled by default for everyone. With the seeding of im-switch, this led to the behaviour which you experienced, but which was not intentional. As we cannot detect who intentionally enabled scim support in their non-CJK locales and who didn't, we cannot solve this by script and manual interaction is required to disable scim support for those who don't want it. And a comment to the 'Close' function in the scim gtk frontend: This one only works when scim is started as a foreground process, but has no effect when scim is running in daemon mode. And one more comment: As this is a development version, such breakage may occur. For those of you who need a stable and reliable system, please use the current stable release. ** Changed in: scim (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Fix Released -- Can't close SCIM https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/199030 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 90434] Re: please enable dontzap by default
Perhaps... but I don't think there is an easy solution to this that will make everyone satisfied. I could imagine those who support keeping the shortcut would dislike it no longer working immediately, whereas people who don't want to have X exit from inadvertent keystrokes may prefer to see the function disabled entirely, not just delayed. [Bug 42678] Re: Logitech MX500 mouse forward/back buttons not detected
Xorg upstream is indeed focused on solving this via input-hotplug, which we expect to hit Ubuntu in a stable enough form by Hardy+1. We had evaluated input-hotplug for Hardy, but after spending a good bit of time found it just was not mature enough - it actually made configuring non-default input settings *harder* than doing it in xorg.conf, so opted to stick with the devil we know. A GUI for adjusting settings to something other than defaults is definitely needed, and being discussed upstream with gnome-control-center (see gnomecc mailing list for discussion).
