[Bug 202752] Re: [CVE-2008-1227] Stack-based buffer overflow causes DoS
I've uploaded a Hardy fix, and the same patch is easily applied to all previous releases. However, a comment in the Fedora bug indicates that downgrading fixed the crash, which probably means the vulnerability is mitigated by something else in previous releases (except perhaps Gutsy). There's also no known exploit, so we can't test it. [Bug 201577] Re: Gnome-settings-daemon dying
Well thats great, but when I go to /var/crash I do not see a crash file for gnome-settings-daemon. It seems that you should try and verify circumstances prior to arbitraily invalidating a problem report. The problem hasn't gone away, I just don't specifically see a crash file for the gnome-settings-daemon. Now if you can advise on how the daemon can be configured to make a crash file or configured to not try restating too many times we might have a fighting chance on this one. Also the problem existed on 03/12 then after the glibc faux pas a few days ago it was necessary for me to re-install Hardy and the problem came back with the new installation. My first guess would be something stored somewhere within my home directory, but I have no idea exactly where to look... Please provide a tad bit more advice before shutting down a problem in the future! running the command from the commandline I receive the following error and still for the record no crash file in /var/crash... :~ gnome-settings-daemon --sync The program 'gnome-settings-daemon' received an X Window System error. My previous work around had one negative side affect... with console output redirected to the serial port, unplugging my usb keyboard (which generates several lines of console output) caused the machine to hang hard. A new work around I found is to specify the kernel boot parameter no-scroll. According to the bootparam man page: This option tells the console driver not to use hardware scroll (where a scroll is effected by moving the screen origin in video memory, instead of moving the data). [Bug 202764] [NEW] Network dies when I use rsync to copy files to this machine
Public bug reported: Ubuntu hardy Alpha 6 I'm not sure where the bug lies. It could also be in openssh or any number of places. Here's what I want to happen: I'm trying to backup files from a Gutsy machine to a Hardy machine. Using rsync it should just copy the files and/or diffs across. Here's what actually happens: From an Ubuntu Gutsy machine I enter this at the command line: rsync -avz /here/ hardybox:/there It begins to copy the files from here to there. I watch for a few minutes and then the verbose output from rsync just hangs. If I try and ping the Hardy machine all the packets are dropped. [Bug 202729] Re: status text don't change
Sorry about that... In pidgin, when I change status to available (for example) there is also a text box where I am invited to customize my status with a specific message. In almost cases the text that I insert appear as a description of me. But if I try to enter a text like 765765765.no-ip.info:4111 as a description there is shown nothing instead of my text. To better understand please try this: 1. add yourself into contact list (you will see yourself in buddy list) ; 2. change status to available and type a random text into description; 3. see changes; 4. now change again status to available and type 765765765.no-ip.info:4111 as a description into input text box; 5. no changes - the status description is the old one. -- status text don't change https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/202729 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 202779] [NEW] crash in Open Office and Gedit after upgrade
Public bug reported: I use a AMD64 system (Targa). Until recently no problems. But since about a week OpenOffice Writer and Gedit crash when I try to open a file after starting the application. When I open a file by doubleclicking it, OpenOffice and Gedit start normally and I can change and save the file. But trying to opening another file causes the application to crash again. A clean install of Ubuntu 7.10 (from the Linux Magazine #87 DVD) solves the problem, until I let the system install the (about 165?) updates. After that the problem reappears. So I suppose there is something wrong in an update. I have no problem with the Gimp, but writing this I notice that the same happens with Totem media player, Sound juicer cd ripper doesn't start at all, F-spot doesn't seem to give any problems. I attach a Valgrind log from last thursday while trying to open a file with gedit. By the way, I have no trouble on my Intel Centrino Duo laptop (Compaq Presario V6000), so I think it has something to do with the AMD processor. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- crash in Open Office and Gedit after upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/202779 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
