[Bug 203898] Re: slapcat broken when default apparmor profile is enabled

2008-03-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package openldap2.3 - 2.4.7-6ubuntu2

---
openldap2.3 (2.4.7-6ubuntu2) hardy; urgency=low

  * apparmor-profile workaround for Launchpad #202161
  * follow ApparmorProfileMigration and force apparmor complain mode on some
upgrades (LP: #203529)
- debian/control: Recommends apparmor = 2.1+1075-0ubuntu6
- debian/slapd.dirs: add etc/apparmor.d/force-complain
- debian/slapd.preinst: create symlink for force-complain/ on pre-feisty
upgrades, upgrades where apparmor-profiles profile is unchanged (ie
non-enforcing) and upgrades where apparmor profile does not exist
- debian/slapd.postrm: remove symlink in force-complain/ on purge
  * debian/rules, debian/slapd.links: use hard links to slapd instead of
symlinks for slap* so these applications aren't confined by apparmor
(LP: #203898)

[Bug 205079] Re: kubuntu Hardy Heron could not install libc6

2008-03-24 Thread Richard Finegold
For what it's worth, I seem to have worked around it with the following
commands:

cd /var/cache/apt/archives
sudo dpkg -i libgcc1_1%3a4.2.3-2ubuntu4_i386.deb libc6_2.7-9ubuntu2_i386.deb

Neither libc6 nor libgcc1 would install on its own; they both needed to
be installed in a single dpkg -i command.

After that, apt-get -f install was complaining about debconf. Again,
multiple packages needed to be installed simultaneously:

sudo dpkg -i debconf* liblocale-gettext-perl_* perl-base_*

And after those, apt-get -f install seemed okay. Now continuing with
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade (crossing fingers)...

[Note: I'm not, by any means, an expert or even a professional at this;
consider waiting for a second opinion before forcing installs of
packages.]

[Bug 36761] Re: Without ja_JP as default environment, Japanese font looks horrible for certain font sizes

2008-03-24 Thread Sancho
I found the same problem too in KDE since Edgy (until now: Gutsy). I've been
using Japanese in English environment. Because I just want to learn Japanese. I
found that some of the Japanese characters are unreadable. They look like some
characters is missing. But later I try this:
LC_CTYPE=ja_JP.UTF-8 kiten

The font is back again. Do I have to change my environment just to show
Japanese fonts correctly? Please see the comparison in my attachment
file.

Please fix this before Hardy is released. Thanks

[Bug 198476] Re: [REGRESSION] Impossible to change LCD brightness on Thinkpad R61/T61/X61

2008-03-24 Thread Jerone Young
This appears to only effect thinkpads using the Intel x3100 graphics.

I have a Thinkpad 61p with Nvidia Quadro and the brightness control
works (updating today's packages), using the proprietary nvidia driver.
But when I try my other Thinkpad T61 with Intel x3100 it does not work.

Also using thinkpad acpi option is a bad work around for the real issue.
This worked and then broke with an ubuntu kernel update (see my other
comments).

[Bug 40243] Re: Pressing power button hangs the system with 2.6.15-20-686

2008-03-24 Thread Gareth Fitzworthington
Jarlath,
I would suggest that you do the following:
Check your bios settings. There will likely be a setting which sets the
functionality of the power button. Try some different settings here. The usual
options are Suspend to RAM or Disk, and hold for 4 secs for hard power down,
signal to OS for soft power down (there maybe more options than this).
It maybe that that you are experiencing some sort of bug with regards to ACPI
support for your motherboard.
Try the debugging procedures here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingACPI

If none of the above helps then file a new bug report. File it against the
Linux-source-2.6.xx (depending upon which release you are using).
Please include the information as separate attachments:
 * Output of uname -a
 * Output of sudo lspci -vvnn
 * Output of sudo dmidecode
 * Try to suspend/hibernate and then restart the system and attach
/var/log/kern.log.0
 * Tarball of /proc/acpi directory. You can't just tar all files because their
content sometimes changes etc.
* cp -r /proc/acpi /tmp
* tar -cvjf ~/acpi.tar.bz /tmp/acpi
Thanks.

[Bug 204769] Re: /etc/init.d/lirc requires TRANSMITTER_DEVICE to be set in hardware.conf

2008-03-24 Thread Mario Limonciello
I prefer the solution here to be debconf. There is some logic already
in place for how this happens, but it clearly isn't complete. Would you
mind posting an example that you are running into difficulties with this
in it's current state? Or is this more of a hypothetical just looking
to fix problems before they arise sort of thing?

[Bug 40243] Re: Pressing power button hangs the system with 2.6.15-20-686

2008-03-24 Thread Gareth Fitzworthington
This bug is due to be closed as the default behaviour is to disable ACPI
support on old motherboards. Gutsy warns about this at boot time and suggests
that acpi=force be used if the system has some form of ACPI functionality.
Will leave open for a while longer to allow for comment.

[Bug 191446] Re: rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV

2008-03-24 Thread mithro
If I get this crash again I will re-open the bug and add a new coredump.

On a side note, it might be useful to be a little bit more descriptive
in your templates - IE We where unable to retrace the uploaded files so
are unable to get useful information. or something. It will make the
comments less dismissive and hence people will be more likely to report
bugs in the future.

Gene,

On Mon, Mar 24, 2008 at 04:30:48AM -, Gene Caldwell wrote:
I strongly DISAGREE ! this bug is one bug only.

Well yes, that's certainly how it's being treated in the bug report, and
that's what I'm explaining is a problem. There are many discrete bugs being
discussed in this one bug report - to be able to make headway on any of
them, the developers need to be able to track, work on, and propose fixes
for each of these bugs individually, otherwise it's impossible to know when
we're making progress (and impossible to divide up the work between
developers, even when the bugs have unrelated causes).

I'm not just being contrary here, I'm speaking as a developer who is trying
to wade through the many unrelated comments in this report and extract some
semblance of order to be able to help the people who have commented to get
their various bugs fixed - because ultimately that /is/ what I'm trying to
do. Treating each bug separately helps us do that. Lumping all the
unrelated or distantly related bugs into a single bug report does not; it
just makes it more likely that some of the problems will be overlooked.

By trying to open a new bug report for each chipset hides the fact that
no one can connect to a hidden SSID

This is not a fact. With the current versions of the kernel and
network-manager, there are many users who *can* connect to hidden SSIDs, and
the remaining issues need to be handled on a per-chipset basis.

As I have seen icedtea-java7-bin seems to be disappered in Hardy and I

At the moment I am upgrading 5 more systems to 8.04 beta and I will see
if this was a problem only on this system. Three systems have just

[Bug 114605] Re: Network Manager cannot connect to a WEP 128 network

2008-03-24 Thread Michael Lustfield
BAM - Exactly the bug I want to report.

First of all, I need to note that the afore mentioned method of
connecting to the wireless network via command line worked 100% for me
and I want to kiss you for it because this is a mission critical system.

Secondly, I want to note that I needed to disconnect the wired and then
perform the commands for a successful connection.

Third, the good stuff:

06:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN
Network Connection (rev 61)
Linux eaglei 2.6.24-12-generic #1 SMP Wed Mar 12 22:31:43 UTC 2008 x86_64
GNU/Linux

Connection to my home WPA2 connection seems to usually work fine.
Trying to connect to my universities wireless which is WEP w/ a 10 char hex key
lead me here.

Don't know how much help this is - but I was happy to find a work around
and will be happy to help get this moving along.

this has gone away in firefox 3b4 I can now access BB no matter the state of
java. It will tell me i need the gcjwebplugin but i have not found any
functionality missing from the page without it yet.

This was not a problem for me with firefox 2 in feisty and because firefox
3b4 is now default in hardy i don't see any further problem.

[Bug 205887] [NEW] Network Manager cannot connect to a WEP 128 network

2008-03-24 Thread Michael Lustfield
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

This bug (114605) is being marked as a duplicate of this because it is
clearly in the wrong area but I don't have a clue how to clean this up.
Sorry for any hassle I cause anybody, I just feel this is important to
Ubuntu and should be looked into a little more.

Original post by Daniel Lombraña
When I try to connect with the Network Manager application to the 128 WEP
network I get always a pop up asking me the passphrase. The truth is that the
key is correct and if I do it by hand with the next commands I get connection:

iwconfig eth1 essid ID key KEY restricted
dhclient eth1

I don't know why NM cannot get an IP from the network.

Post by Stanleyid
I had tested in two computers in to others APs. I got the same bug.

My personal post

BAM - Exactly the bug I want to report.

First of all, I need to note that the afore mentioned method of
connecting to the wireless network via command line worked 100% for me
and I want to kiss you for it because this is a mission critical system.

Secondly, I want to note that I needed to disconnect the wired and then
perform the commands for a successful connection.

Third, the good stuff:

GNU/Linux

Connection to my home WPA2 connection seems to usually work fine.
Trying to connect to my universities wireless which is WEP w/ a 10 char hex key
lead me here.

Don't know how much help this is - but I was happy to find a work around
and will be happy to help get this moving along.

[Bug 50214] Re: can't connect to hidden network

2008-03-24 Thread Steve Langasek
A look at the kernel sources gives me the following list of drivers that
implement scan_capa:

ipw2200
hostap
mac80211, which is used by:
 - rt2x00usb
 - rt73usb
 - rt2x00pci
 - rt2500pci
 - rt2400pci
 - rt61pci
 - rt2500usb
 - b43
 - p54pci
 - b43legacy
 - p54usb
 - rtl8187
 - adm8211

This means that, as far as I'm able to determine from the kernel, all of
these drivers should be able to connect to hidden SSIDs with Linux
2.6.24-12 and network-manager 0.6.6-0ubuntu3. Gene, this list seems to
cover your chipset; can you please confirm that you're running the
current versions of these packages, or if not, upgrade and report the
results?

David, ndiswrapper is clearly not in this list, so does not support the
scan_capa functionality; handling this driver will probably require
addition of another quirk in network-manager along with the existing
quirk for atheros drivers. On the other hand, it's possible that
ndiswrapper does support the necessary interfaces when they're supported
by the underlying wrapped driver, so this could be a regression for some
other ndiswrapper users... on the gripping hand, it looks like it should
only be a performance regression rather than a regression in
functionality. So we're probably ok to go ahead with a change like your
patch for ndiswrapper; it's probably best if Alexander comments on it
first, though, since he knows this code far better than I do.

2008-03-24 Thread iosonofabio
I'm using Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy and keyjnote 0.10.0-1 .

I installed keyjnote from the repos and couldn't get it work. I
installed patch from the repos and applied the patch of Tim using Martin
Zuther's commands, but I got the following error message:

NameError: global name 'RealPage' is not defined

Then, following bug #178429 in keyjnote, created by Siep Kroonenberg, I
opened keyjnote.py with gedit and substituted RealPage with page
(without ) on line 1050.

Now it works for me. I still had some rendering problems which I
resolved by using parameter -e. My synthax is thus:

and everything's ok!

Identifier Configured Video Device
Driver nv
Option AccelMethod EXA
Option AddARGBVisualsTrue
Option AddARGBGLXVisuals True
Option NoLogoTrue
EndSection

[Bug 173966] Re: java plugin not working in firefox 3 on ubuntu 8.04

2008-03-24 Thread StratosL
The first time you visit a java site, firefox asks for the plugin.
After installing the plugin, firefox does not ask for it, but still nothing is
happening.
After making the symlink as well, it works..
