[Bug 202508] Re: ssh -X no longer works

2008-04-05 Thread kmon
On the server machine:

netstat -a -n --program | grep 2

shows nothing, so the port doesn't seem to be in use before launching
sshd.

I don't understand why sshd complains about:
Bind to port 2 on 0.0.0.0 failed: Address already in use. (in the sshd
output)

Thanks

[Bug 212088] [NEW] [CVE-2008-1467] remote command execution via crafted URL

Public security bug reported:

** DISPUTED ** CenterIM 4.22.3 and earlier allows user-assisted remote

[Bug 208576] Re: krb5 ldap backend not built

2008-04-05 Thread dorian
It appears that this runs deeper than just specifying a new plug-in
package. When I tried to do exactly what you suggest, I found that
libldap2-dev is 2.1.30 while slapd is 2.3.35 (gutsy).

If --with-ldap is switched on in the configure parameters, the build
fails due to some #defines set in
src/plugins/kdb/ldap/libkdb_ldap/kdb_ldap.h (49) which constrains the
version to 2.2.24 or higher.

I tried a workaround, which was to specify -DBUILD_WITH_BROKEN_LDAP in
the CFLAGS. Unfortunately, changes in the data types from OpenLDAP
2.1.30 (which ship with Gutsy) appear to be significantly different
enough to prohibit the build. I haven't investigated farther than this,
however.

My proposed course of action is to figure out why OpenLDAP's headers are
two points behind its binaries, and ithen/i to implement the LDAP
plug-in package.

[Bug 199476] Re: Pinnacle Dazzle DVB-T USB stick is not being recognized by Kaffeine.

2008-04-05 Thread John Carragher
I've been experimenting with Ubuntu's support for TV through 7.04, 7.10
and now 8.04 Beta. I had limited success under 7.04 and have had no
success since then.

I have licensed Sage TV and had TV working with Sage TV, MythTV and
TVTime under 7.04 with a TwinHaan PCI card. Since then I have tried
using a Fusion 4 card (twin tuners), an ASUS TV card, a Fusion USB
dongle, a Compro USB dongle and a Pinnacle dongle. Every one of these
works immediately on XP or Vista machines. Ubuntu sort of recognised
them - even though I had to do ridiculous things for the new Fusion PCI
card - but after 7.04 no TV software showed TV.

I now test using TVTime as it is the quickest way of finding out whether the TV
hardware has been detected and support implemented.

I'm impressed with the progress that has been made via Ubuntu and have spent
many hours today trying to get my notebook using Ubuntu and being able to do
all the things I want it to do. The Pinnacle TV card seems to be based on a
Phillips chipset and on the preceding desktop tests was recognised to some
extent. Hence I've done my testing on an ACER Aspire 5720 using this USB dongle.

The kde-hal-device-manager thinks the Pinnacle USB dongle is a 2881
device. TVTime doesn't believe there are any devices it can use.

Whatever is standing in the way now is probably minor compared to what
has been achieved. The huge amount of effort expended to provide the TV
driver support is worthless if even the simple applications like TVTime
can't deliver.

[Bug 212098] [NEW] easy file sharing not notifying about logout/restart

2008-04-05 Thread Tor Harald Thorland
Public bug reported:

On Hardy Beta
When trying to share a folder in nautilus it notifies that the samba package is
not installed.
It then installs the package.
When you then try to share the folder again it notifies you that you do not
have privilegies to share files and that you have to contact your
administrator...

This is not really true... The problem is that the user IS already added
to the sambashare user group... but the computer has not been logged out
or restarted... thus it does not notice that you really are allowed to
do this.

A warning that you have to restart or log out should be displayed, and
NOT that you dont have the privilegies.

I'm not that optimistic here. The fix did not show on the daily live
CDs by now (04/03). The feature has been switched off (i.e. you get the
default 25 lines display), but if you try vga=0x318 on the kernel
command line then you will still get just the blinking cursor.

[Bug 204748] Re: Cannot boot using Kernel version cannot boot using kernel 2.6.24-12

2008-04-05 Thread Ravindran K
Hi Leann,

I'm yet to test with 2.6.24-14 kernel. But today I recieved an update
for 2.6.24-15-generic kernel and it is working perfectly. So I think
you can close this. BTW, just a quick question if it is relevant. Is
there a kernel in hardy for support of RAM 64 ? I have newer custom
kernels (2.6.25-rc5), but no working one in 2.4.24.x .. thanks for any
advise.

[Bug 114331] Re: xserver starts but display is corrupt (i830M,845G)

2008-04-05 Thread Bryce Harrington
Alright, I think we can probably close this one. Several fixes have
gone in upstream which I believe are all included in the version we have
in Hardy (released feb 23rd.) For some of the other cases the reporters
are unfortunately unable to test, but hopefully the upstreamed fixes
cover them too. There's been no recent comments, which I guess is a
good sign.

Anyway, if anyone is still experiencing this issue, please feel free to
reopen this bug (although maybe it'd be better to open a new bug).
Include your Xorg.0.log and a photo or screenshot showing the
corruption.

[Bug 197959] Re: [Hardy]Recent kernel update to 2.6.24-11 breaks b43 (with bcm4312)

2008-04-05 Thread alexrudd
I have been updating faithfully through several kernel revisions waiting for a
fix now.
As of the very latest version (linux-image-2.6.24-15-generic), b43 is still not
working for me.

Installing b43fwcutter (or using dpkg-reconfigure) claims that it will
get the drivers, but then exits with no further output. modprobe b43
does nothing apparent. The wireless light does not come on, and
NetworkManager does not show anything at all. When booting, there is a
long delay (30s) at Loading hardware drivers.

This is marked as Fix Released but I have noticed nothing in the
changelogs about b43 either.

Re: [Bug 184920] Re: import numpy fails after Py_Finalize in embedded python

2008-04-05 Thread lcampagn
I've attached two files:
- pythontest.cpp - just initializes python, imports numpy, and
finalizes, then repeats. On my machine (running hardy), the second run
through causes a segfault.
- build - a short script I used to build the executable

Here's the backtrace when I run:

I forgot to mention -- I first saw this in 2.6.24-14, I never tried
2.6.24-13, but it was OK in 2.6.24-12.

The issue persists in 2.6.24-15

Yes, do what it says there, other solution I used when I didn't know
what to do, was to change the panel to the upper part of the monitor and
then back down.

I'm not that optimistic here. The fix did not show on the daily live

default 25 lines display), but if you try vga=0x318 on the kernel
command line then you will still get just the blinking cursor.

Here I have the 2.6.24-15 kernel, which was included in a recent update,
and it appears to be working fine with vga=791. The console switching
works, and the framebuffer seems to be as expected. Do you have
linux-generic and/or linux-image-generic installed? You need the modules
as well as the kernel itself, and those metapackages will pull in what is
needed.

For example:

2008-04-05 Thread John at Canterbury
I have only been able to try Alpha 6. I cannot get a display on the
attached TV via S-Video. Chipset is Intel GM965 (X3100 gfx). The
commands I run are the same as listed in the duplicate bug report (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
intel/+bug/179797 ) and I get the same results. I live in the UK so the
TV signal requirement is PAL. Trying to set the output mode to PAL
causes an error so maybe its this?

[Bug 152782] Re: Black and White display on NEC projector with Gusty

2008-04-05 Thread Bryce Harrington
Closing as out of date, due to lack of response.

I also have an E1505 and have tested it quite a bit with various
projectors (maybe not exactly the same model as you) and have found it
works pretty much problem free with projectors, so I *think* the issue
is resolved.

In any case, if you still experience the problem, feel free to reopen
this bug with some additional information.

[Bug 212110] [NEW] Browser loading page error

2008-04-05 Thread tony
Public bug reported:

I have a spare Dell C521 PC running the latest Hardy beta. After
Fridays updates I could not view a webpage. The error page Cannot
establish a connection to server was displayed. What is strange the
PC allowed me to download and install Opera to see if it was a Firefox
issue Opera couldn't load pages either. E-Mail also works on
this machine...

My main custom built PC also running Hardy Beta is unaffected?

I am unsure if the bug is related to the hardware in the Dell machine or not.

Teeleef

[Bug 65164] Edit fstab

2008-04-05 Thread Ragavendra
Now I am able to save/ download files on/ to NTFS with no issues at all

I edited etc/fstab and added the lines

/dev/sda1 /media/VOL_1ntfs
defaults,utf8,quiet,uid=root,gid=root,dmask=0022,fmask=0133 0 0
/dev/sda5 /media/VOL_2ntfs
defaults,utf8,quiet,uid=root,gid=root,dmask=0022,fmask=0133 0 0
/dev/sda6 /media/VOL_3ntfs
defaults,utf8,quiet,uid=root,gid=root,dmask=0022,fmask=0133 0 0
/dev/sda7 /media/VOL_4ntfs
defaults,utf8,quiet,uid=root,gid=root,dmask=0022,fmask=0133 0 0

The above is for my hda. One can get the above info by 'fdisk -l' and
add appropriate entries.

I guess the issue may be with the HAL daemon. It tries to detect these
partitions but not able to give write permissions to applications on
them.

[Bug 212114] [NEW] udev needs to depend on uuid-runtime

2008-04-05 Thread Colin Watson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev

The uuidgen binary has moved (again) to a uuid-runtime package. Please
change the versioned dependency on e2fsprogs to a dependency on uuid-
runtime.

lamont /usr/lib/udev/migrate-fstab-to-uuid.sh: 141: uuidgen: not found
lamont so which package gets the bug report that says uuidgen moved from
e2fsprogs to uuid-runtime?

(I added uuid-runtime to the standard seed yesterday because I couldn't
think where else to put it, but this won't quite be enough. A proper
package dependency is better anyway.)

[Bug 212113] [NEW] Group list keeps multiplying

2008-04-05 Thread zoopzoop
Public bug reported:

My groups list (System Administration Users and Groups Manage
Groups) is behaving quite peculiar. When I go in the first time,
everything is okay. Then, when I click on a random group, Properties and
OK, without changing anything, my group list has doubled! I have exactly
the same list, but twice.

Example:

My group list:

root
deamon
bin
sys
...
gdm
slocate
mysql
subversion

I click on the last entry subversion, Properties and OK, and my
group list becomes:

root
deamon
bin
sys
...
gdm
slocate
mysql
[ subversion ]
root
deamon
bin
sys
...
gdm
slocate
mysql
subversion

The cursor is still on the group subversion but the list has doubled!

My /etc/passwd file looks okay, although the group list contains many
more groups.

[Bug 212000] Re: python-mechanize submission problem

2008-04-05 Thread Markos Chandras
Ok, I wrote a script on python

I guess there is no need to have an account on voipbuster to test it

It runs fine on Gentoo but not on ubuntu

The url that returns in the end is different in ubuntu than other
distros

This means that Submit function doesnt work as it should :)

[Bug 212029] Re: do not know how to transfer music files to microchip in usb port

2008-04-05 Thread Iulian Udrea
Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be
a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the
support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it
would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support
tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if
they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs

Thank you.

[Bug 211977] Re: cpufreq ondemand governor causes kernel panics with 2.6.24-12-generic x86_64

2008-04-05 Thread arachnist
Ok, neither setting the scaling governor to performance, nor appending nohz=off
to kernel arguments seems to help.
Attaching /var/log/messages, maybe it'll give a hint about the cause of these
lockups to someone.

[Bug 212118] [NEW] Hardy Beta Shutdown Doesn't Power Off (xubuntu-8.04-beta-desktop-i386 LiveCD)

2008-04-05 Thread Jarno Suni
Public bug reported:

Power off did work by 6.06 LiveCD. With 8.04-beta it is different: After
I remove the CD and press enter, (at least) a hard disk powers off, but
the screen remains the same and fans keep spinning. Keyboard does not
respond then.

Hardware is relatively old, Compaq Deskpro using Intel Pentium III.
When I start linux from the LiveCD, I get the following kind of message:
[ 0.00] ACPI: BIOS age (1999) fails cutoff (2000), acpi=force is
required to enable ACPI

I'll report the logs according to instructions here:
