[Bug 234732] [NEW] Upgrade gutsy - hardy, faled for packages: samba-common, smbclient, ubuntu-desktop, bash-completion

2008-05-25 Thread deniv
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

While upgrading from Gutsy 64x to Hardy, Distribution Upgrade hangs at packages
samba-common and bash-completion. The top command indicates extensive CPU and
swap usage by ucf. After I press Ctrl-C the upgrade continues. Please see
also screen-shots and system log files attached with this report.
This problem is reproduced each time I try to run an upgrade (from fresh
installation of Gutsy). When I try to install Hardy 64x directly, rather than
running an upgrade, the installation hangs as well but there's less
possibilities to gather system information.

[Bug 156049] Re: ssh-copy-id doesn't actually change permissions

2008-05-25 Thread Colin Watson
I think it probably makes sense to change the manual page. After all, if
there's already (e.g.) a .ssh directory with the wrong modes, ssh-copy-
id won't be able to log in to copy the key over! It only makes sense to
worry about this when creating these entries to start with.

[Bug 207072] Re: nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network.

2008-05-25 Thread John Kuang
I swapped in the smb-browse binary from comment 28. Seems to work, but
the only thing is it doesn't do is to save the passwords into the
keyring. Another big problem I discovered was that if you bookmark any
windows server (eg. smb://server ) that requires password in nautilus,
you will SLOW DOWN your save/save as/open dialogs in programs such as
gimp, openoffice, and practically any gtk programs. It will take around
5 seconds for the dialog to appear. When I removed those bookmarks, the
save/save as/open file dialogs became zippy again. Having the actual
share bookmarked (eg. smb://server/share) doesnt slow things down.
Anyone else experiencing this?

[Bug 234711] [NEW] Print-preview pop-up fails to disappear

2008-05-25 Thread thobbs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

Ubuntu 8.04
Gedit 2.22.1

When viewing a print preview of a plain text file, if the cursor remains
stationary for a few seconds, a small yellow pop-up appears, stating
Page 2 of 5, or something similar. However, after the cursor is moved,
the pop-up fails to disappear as expected. It remains there until you
left-click on the preview or move the cursor off of the application.
Although I doubt this is done on purpose, it is annoying. Nothing big,

[Bug 202089] Re: Pulseaudio is blocking normal sound after resume

2008-05-25 Thread TheFlyingPengwyn
I had a similar problem while coding an openAL program. I found a simple
fix by using asoundconf

asoundconf set-pulseaudio

This makes alsa go via the long route, through pulseaudio, rather than
straight to the sound devices. Works fine so far. I haven't restarted
yet, but assume that won't be a problem.

[Bug 201638] Re: torcs-bin crashed with SIGSEGV

2008-05-25 Thread nzadLithium
I think i may have the same problem. At first i thought it was just
crashing about 10 seconds in. Then i realised it was when i hit another
car that it crashed (for example drove into the car to push it out of
way :p ). Is this the same thing as you? I'm using nvidia driver. You
can get debugging symbols for torcs from synaptic after adding this
repository: deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com gutsy main universe

I have debugging symbols now but I cant figure out how to get gdb to
debug it :S When i was trying to debug it i found that the bin file its
accessing is a script that initiates torcs and tells it where all the
libs are etc. In that same file it said something about debugging torcs
with -d option. So i did that and I'm adding output as attachment. Maybe
it has the backtrace you want?

The bit near the bottom looks like a backtrace to me? but I don't know I
don't have much experience in debugging (I've only ever written
extremely basic programs and only needed to debug once).

[Bug 216727] Re: T61p suspend not resuming with 2.6.24.16 generic

Switching from nv to the nvidia-glx restricted driver seemed to make

I'd really rather use the free driver: I hope the information helps the

[Bug 135548] Re: [Gutsy] Action on critical battery isn't triggered - regression

2008-05-25 Thread Roberto Scelzo
The other day I tried a debug as often suggested here and I found that g-p-m
was configured to trigger the critical action when 2 minutes was left but
g-p-m keeps on showing 5 minutes even when acpi tells that the battery
percentage is 0%
So I adjusted the thresholds to fit what I think is correct for my
battery/laptop and now, when I have less than 5 minutes remaining my machine
gets hibernated.

[Bug 75635] Re: Vaio PCG-SRX51P/B has two graphics problems

2008-05-25 Thread Russel Winder
The title of this bug report Vaio PCG-SRX51P/B has two graphics
problems does rather give the game away that this is not a Dell machine
;-)

The BIOS on this SRX51P/B is very limited in options, there is nothing I
can see about video memory buffers. As it is a laptop, this doesn't
surprise me as the hardware is all fixed and known at laptop
construction time.

Three messages coming up one for each file -- I wonder when Lauchpad
will allow multiple files per message?

[Bug 234690] Re: 54jde.el registers wrong java version

2008-05-25 Thread Reinhard Tartler
On my system, `/usr/sbin/update-java-alternatives --list` gives the
following output:

java-6-openjdk 1061 /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk
java-6-sun 63 /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun
java-7-icedtea 1060 /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-icedtea

So using the 2nd coloumn for this is not a good indicator for the
version. However calling $found_jdk/bin/java -version takes more time
than acceptable. I'm out of ideas here how to fix it properly. I'd
therefore suggest to take out this convenience function. Its intention
is of course to help new users. However, it doesn't help when its
broken.

[Bug 228299] Re: libvirt-bin with QEMU ignores KQEMU

2008-05-25 Thread msiebuhr
It seems this isn't a bug, but an error on my behalf; I read the
documentation on most homepages and guides for creating new virtual
machines using virt-install implies that the --accelerate flag requires
KVM to work - but reading the man-page, it enables *any* acceleration it
may find, being KVM, KQEMU or none at all. If you leave it out, it
explicitly forces the virtual machine not to use any acceleration at all
(i.e. setting the '-no-kqemu' argument).

[Bug 234725] [NEW] mpd failes to start after a reboot: error parsing state file /var/lib/mpd/state

2008-05-25 Thread no!chance
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mpd

I am using Ubuntu 8.04 (upgraded from dapper) and mpd-version
0.13.1-3ubuntu1.

When I restart mpd (/etc/init.d/mpd restart), all works fine, but when I reboot
the machine, mpd failes to start. For a test, I startet mpd by hand: sudo mpd
--stdout, which gave me the following output:

No audio_output defined in config file
Attempt to detect audio output device
Attempting to detect a alsa audio device
Successfully detected a alsa audio device
error parsing state file /var/lib/mpd/state

The file /var/lib/mpd/state lookes like this:
---
audio_device_state:1:default detected output
state: play
current: 2901
time: 213
random: 1
repeat: 0
crossfade: 3
playlist_begin
---

if I add a line playlist_end at the end of the file, mpd starts.

It is a little bit confusing, because the boot process should only
execute the mpd init script. I checked my init.d directory, if there is
another script left (from original dapper installation), which
interferes with /etc/init.d/mpd, but i found none.

Regards,
Ralf

[Bug 151576] Re: Gnome Thinks Home Directory Is Desktop

2008-05-25 Thread Jan Moolman
Hi All;
I installed a little app by the name of Ubuntu Tweak (
http://www.ubuntugeek.com/howto-tweak-ubuntu.html )
This is for use with Gnome. After tweaking a bit and trying to avoid the
obvious pitfalls as noted by the app creator in the app, I logged out and,
voila, I had the above problem of Home being displayed on the desktop.

The tool allows to set the path to the Desktop folder, which after
selecting this option, all was correct again.

Summary: Those who can't find the above mentioned ~/.config/users.dirs.dirs
or anything refering to it, try using Ubuntu tweak
Cheers

Finally evolution crashed with those messages:

[Bug 193970] Re: iwl3945 | iwl4965: Wireless can't be activated after disabling kill switch

2008-05-25 Thread Verstraete Linard
@Pihhan: So if I understand correctly: If you install hardy with the
2.6.24 kernel without adding anything (like mine), there is no problem.
But if you install hardy with 2.6.25 you do have the problem? So we are
speaking of regression from the 2.6.24 to the 2.6.25?

[Bug 123955] Re: Can't drag menu items into the root System menu

2008-05-25 Thread Walter
Happens to me as well in Hardy.

What is really happening, is that alacarte is not updating the screen
properly. You can add an item, but it won't show it. After I added a New
Seperator, all of a sudden all my newly added items magically appeared.
Since then, alacarte seems to behave again.

[Bug 71837] Re: Fatal error on Palm during synchronization with Evolution

2008-05-25 Thread Kai Sandoval
I am experiencing a similar issue with my Sony CLie PEG-SJ30/U.
I am unable to synchronize my PDA upon initial set up.
Steps: 1) Configure Gnome-Pilot Settings
Add MyPDA with owner Name and ID Number.
Device Settings: Cradle, USB, Time out: 2, Device: /dev/pilot, Speed: 9600
And I set up the conduits:
all to Synchronize and One TIme Action to Copy from PDA.

I leave the Sendmail and TIme settings disabled.

and when I press the sync option on my Clie, the Clie is unable to
establish a connection with my laptop or my desktop.

However, if I open a terminal window and enter
sudo modprobe visor
and enter my root password,
then I can sync FINE, no problem.

I have to enter sudo modprobe visor each time I power up my system if I
want to be able to synchronize my PDA to my laptop and the same for my
desktop.

Re: [Bug 218000] Re: XRandR Rotation with -intel doesn't work with compiz [x3100]

2008-05-25 Thread Andrew Stromme
I don't think this is the case. I have the same problem running
kwin-kde4 with the graphical effects turned on. It's possible that
there could be a bug in both, but I get the exact same behavior and
that makes me again think to the driver.

With that said, a workaround might be to rotate the screen with compiz
instead of with xrandr, but that has a lot of overhead.

On 5/25/08, Kieran Fleming [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
I've had the same problem, and decided it was a compiz bug. If you can
manage to get a terminal up, try running:
 compiz --replace
and see if that fixes your problem. If it does, then I would suggest
 reassigning this bug to compiz.

[Bug 71837] Re: Fatal error on Palm during synchronization with Evolution

2008-05-25 Thread Kai Sandoval
Ms.Kai
Complete details.
Bug #108512, first reported on 2007-04-2
This is the bug I am talking about, and it is occurring on Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy
Heron 05-25-2008.

This is on a fresh install of the Hardy Heron final release with all
upgrades. I'm connecting my Sony Clie to my computer via cradle and usb.

In Hardy the gnome-pilot device settings tried:

/dev/pilot
/dev/ttyUSB0
/dev/ttyUSB1
/dev/ttyS0
and /dev/ttyS1

/dev/ttyUSB0 and /dev/ttyUSB1.

In Hardy I get no connection when I press the sync button on the cradle
(although the info appears in System-Preferences-Hardware Manager just
fine). Instead, I receive the following error dialog:

Failed to connect using device `cradle', on port `/dev/ttyUSB0'.
Check your configuration, as you requested old-style usbserial
`ttyUSB' syncing, but do not have the usbserial `visor' kernel
module loaded. You may need to select a `usb:' device.

I can see in gnome-pilot-Devices-Edit-Device where I can select
usb:, but using this setting fails to make any connection at all.

Before starting gnome-pilot, open a terminal and type:

sudo modprobe visor

to load the visor module. Then start gnome-pilot and initiate sync from
the cradle, as usual, and everything should work (it did for me).

[Bug 234737] [NEW] Nagios-mysql installation fails unless gcc is installed

2008-05-25 Thread Hiran Chaudhuri
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nagios-mysql

Just yesterday I tried to install nagios-mysql. The installation failed, and
some files were missing. A manual fix required to find out what is required.
Reading the nagios manuals I found out that nagios requires gcc to be installed
- the ubuntu package does not. I was able to fix that with uninstall
nagios-mysql and related packages, install gcc and install nagios-mysql.

BTW, the nagios that gets installed is v1.4 while the nagios homepage
offers 3.0. This seems to be a big gap.

[Bug 213535] Re: gnochm - cannot read text after large images - no vertical scrollbar

2008-05-25 Thread Nabuchodonozor
Same here, on Hardy, GnoCHM (0.9.11-1~getdeb1) cuts off the document
under the fold, so that you can read only the first screen from a given
page. The content is still there, you just can't scroll to see it. In
other viewers it's displayed ok.

2008-05-25 Thread Aaron Whitehouse
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

I am using Hardy. I have plugged in two Canon cameras at different
times. Both bring up a list of two cameras of the correct name. The USB
port that it says the two cameras are plugged into are two different
ports. Please see attached picture.
