[Bug 235265] [NEW] Update FreeRADIUS Version to 2.0.4

2008-05-27 Thread specialKevin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: freeradius

The current version of FreeRADIUS in Hardy is version 1.1.7 and that
version is no longer maintained upstream as of January 2008. Please
update to version 2.0.4 or some other version on the 2.0.x branch, since
those are currently maintained upstream.

[Bug 230030] Re: php segfaults with readline

2008-05-27 Thread Adam Conrad
For the record, libedit is pretty much known-broken in many ways, though
it's our only option (we can't legally link PHP with libreadline, thanks
to license conflicts).

If we intend to keep PHP linkes with libedit (I always had readline
support disabled in the past, for this very reason), we should really
look at tidying up libedit's numerous bugs.

2008-05-27 Thread Chuck Short
Hi,

I really dont think its a kernel problem either basically you have a
process on your machine that is chewing up all of your memory and you
really have to nail it down to see why that is. The reason why you are
getting OOM because its not that smart and it killed the first. You
might want to consider try a different version of apache (other than
mpm-worker) as well. From what you have given us so far I cant really
tell which is eating up all of your memory.

[Bug 234927] Re: delay php script execution on cli

2008-05-27 Thread Adam Sommer
So I started installing each of the modules you listed which I didn't
have, and I think clamavlib is the culprit. What happens, I believe, is
that php5-libclamav will load the signature database when PHP is called
from the command line. I think the library was written to be used with
Apache which should load the db only when Apache starts or the db is
updated programatically.

Anyway, can you test this by commenting the following lines in
/etc/php5/cli/php.ini:
  #extension=clamav.so
  #[clamav]
  #clamav.dbpath=/var/lib/clamav
  #clamav.maxreclevel=0
  #clamav.maxfiles=0
  #clamav.archivememlim=0
  #clamav.maxfilesize=0
  #clamav.maxratio=0

Then rerun the script from the CLI? When I commented the lines the test
script you posted above executed at normal speed.

Thanks

I created the database like this:

[Bug 234901] Re: Please apply upstream patch for dpkg-buildsource

2008-05-27 Thread ITO Nobuaki
Thanks for your comment. I got two points from your message.

1. Using linker flag -Bsymbolic-functions for building library is your
policy.

Certainly it's not bad idea. It makes shared libraries more robust, so it
seems to be good manner indeed.
(But ... I wonder why not -Bsymbolic instead of -Bsymbolic-functions.
Could you tell me the reason?)

2. In some conditions, Samba might not work well if it is built with
-Bsymbolic-functions.

In further update, the flag -Bsymbolic-functions would be removed from
Samba package.

Still now I have to say my opinion:
- The linker flag -Bsymbolic(-functions) is for build-time usage principally.
- Do not force developers to use the flag who link their program against those
libraries.

As you have already written, dpkg itself doesn't need to be modified.
On the other hand, some of *-config scripts apply build-time LDFLAGS
for --libs configuration. That make unfortunate consequences.

Upon my little investigation, following programs incorrectly state
-Bsymbolic-functions when they are called with --libs or --ldflags
argument.

- krb5-config in krb5
- cups-config in cupsys
- net-snmp-config in net-snmp
- mysql_config in mysql-dfsg (see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-dfsg-5.0/+bug/225741)

More affected packages may exist. There are many many packages in
Ubuntu, so I could not cover them all. I think these packages would be
modified.

Not all of packages (having *-config script) are affected. Some programs (ex.
pth-config in pth) don't have -Bsymbolic-functions (but was built with
-Bsymbolic-functions). And some packages which support pkg-config (ex.
libssl) have -Bsymbolic-functions in Libs.private, not in Libs. Good.

[Bug 235378] [NEW] hardy samba critically slow

2008-05-27 Thread Mark A Gerads
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba-common

I can copy files from a windows share at 600KBs, but only copy to the share at
70KBs.
I marked this as a samba-common bug because I can copy without the 'samba'
package installed, and I suspect it to be samba-common, because when I have
'samba' installed, serving files is slow, averaging 61KBs, and it is supposed
th use the 'samba-common' for stuff. this is why I suspect samba-common.

This is slow on every machine I've installed hardy on, but I haven't
been around Ubuntu enough to know if the pre-hardies are slow.

If anyone knows what changes were made to the samba source that make it
so slow, please revert them(samba is fast on slackware).

[v=spf1]v=spf1 This identifies the TXT record as an SPF string.

Messages that are not sent from an approved server should still be accepted as

Note the a: is allowed to be an IP address. It is not an error. And,
it is marked as a soft fail (?all), so it should have allowed the e-mail

[Bug 235253] [NEW] rename on delete, possibly causing invalid paths

2008-05-27 Thread nailor
Public bug reported:

i split bug 235045 in two parts, one being:

hardy introduces a new trash-system. if you move a file with an
incredibly long path (just under max path length) into trash you cannot
empty the trash. a message tells Error removing file: Directory not
empty. debian shows the same bug, but presents a path too long, could
not rename file message, suggesting that the files is about to be
renamed before deletion and this fails.

removing the file from command line works as expected. my installation
of hardy moved the trash from .Trash to .local/share/Trash however...

to get a file for testing do:
$ for i in `seq 1 1000`; do mkdir Desktop; cd Desktop; done

expected behavior is: empty the trash. delete the file. dont rename it, but
recover from failure.
workaround is: display a decent error message, telling something helpful.

[Bug 235165] Re: File systems mounted via UUID does not show up on file system listings

2008-05-27 Thread Chris Coulson
Your fstab is messed up. Swap isn't mounting because the UUID specified
doesn't exist, and the UUID for your root filesystem is invalid. I can
only assume that your root filesystem is mounting due to the kernel
option specified in your menu.lst.

What is the output of 'cat /proc/cmdline'?

Thanks

[Bug 235256] [NEW] dragging Desktop from Places to Desktop fails

2008-05-27 Thread nailor
Public bug reported:

i split bug 235045 in two parts, one being:

in hardy, if you drag the Desktop entry from the Places menu and drop it to
your Desktop nasty things happen. nautilus happily starts to copy files without
caring for endless recursion too much. this leads either to:
- loads of junk on your desktop until disk is full (if loads of data on desktop)
- an amazingly long error dialog saying that dir Desktop could not be
created, plus your desktop as a fractal repeating itself over and over again
until max. filename length is reached (if no/few data on desktop)

expected behavior: ask me what I really want to do, offering senseful
things like link here/create launcher or copy here (avoid recursion)
or oops... nothing, really

[Bug 235259] [NEW] Second display not discovered by Xorg -configure

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Xorg -configure creates a new Xorg Configuration with just one monitor. The
Screen gets cloned on two monitors.

As attachment there are several different hardware configurations which

I expect Xorg to find all available monitors and adds them to the configuration
file.
Right now, only one monitor is properly configured in xorg.conf.new - propably
the primary monitor.

[Bug 235258] [NEW] routes ignored advertised in ipv6 router advertisement packets

2008-05-27 Thread AZ
Public bug reported:

I'm using ipv6 on a tun device. My router (a debian system) sends out router
advertisements using radvd which are received by my ubuntu machine and used for
address generation.
Although the ra's include route information, this is ignored.
The interface uses the fec1::/64 prefix and routing is advertised for fec0::/64.
I cannot add this route to /etc/network/interfaces, as it comes up after vpn is
started.

2008-05-27 Thread Datadog
Just a follow-up. Installing the 'xserver-xgl' package solved the window
border problem for me. I don't see this as a 'solution' to the issue, as
this issue didn't present itself when I was running Gutsy and I was not
running xserver-xgl before today. However, this 'solution' has presented
another problem. Running glxgears now crashes X for me, with the following

[Bug 87661] Re: [apport] polytopes crashed with SIGILL in _mesa_x86_64_transform_points4_perspective()

2008-05-27 Thread Mikael Gerdin
Setting MESA_NO_ASM stops the crashes for me, I agree that this is a much nicer
work-around but it would be even better if mesa could do runtime-checks as it
does on IA32.
Perhaps mesa's postinst-script could check cpu vendor and add MESA_NO_ASM=1 to
/etc/environment?

[Bug 173652] Re: unable to adjust screen brightness on recent Sony Vaio notebooks

2008-05-27 Thread Michael Doube
** Description changed:

Fn keys don't work for dimming the screen, though they do stimulate the
  sonybright.sh script.

xbacklight works if the notebook has an Intel 965 (x3100) display
adapter, but is subject to bug #176888 (won't work on Hardy, bad XRandR
  setting).

There is no known method for setting the LED backlight on newer Vaios
with nVidia GeForce 8 series adapters, though it is possible to pseudo-
dim by making the LCD blacker (this unfortunately doesn't help with
  power-saving).

  There are 2 problems here:
  1) The Vaio's LED screen is really very bright when burning at 100% and is
hard to look at for any period
  2) Battery life suffers

Pretty much all the newer Vaios (2007 onwards) have some combination of
these graphics adapters so this bug should be widespread (and much

[Bug 235263] [NEW] Xorg -configure is just configuring primary monitor

2008-05-27 Thread Bastian Wissler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

Xorg -configure creates a new Xorg Configuration with just one
monitor. The Screen gets cloned on two monitors.

As attachment there are several different hardware configurations which
have this problem - with the latest xorg-ati-driver shipped with ubuntu

I expect Xorg to find all available monitors and adds them to the configuration

Right now, only one monitor is properly configured in xorg.conf.new - propably

[Bug 235254] Re: a: should allow IPv4 addresses

2008-05-27 Thread Scott Kitterman
The a: mechanism is not allowed to be an IP address. Arguably this was
a poor design decision, but that is what's codified in RFC 4408. See
http://www.openspf.org/RFC_4408#mech-a (and the rest of the ABNF) for
details. Whenever feasible, the package design follows RFC 4408. Note
that the wizard you are using is an old one. The current one is
available on http://www.openspf.org/Project_Overview.

If you prefer not to reject on permanent errors (and this is a permanent
error), my recommendation is to switch to postfix-policyd-spf-python
(that's the name in the current release, it had a different name in
earlier releases). It does not reject on permerror by default. It also
is configurable in the package configuration file.
