[Bug 231060] Re: packages dnsmasq and libvirt-bin conflict with each other

2008-06-20 Thread Soren Hansen
dnsmasq is a general purpose dns (and DHCP, but let's ignore this for the
purpose of this conversation) server.
The dnsmasq package installs itself and starts listening on all interfaces.
That seems like a reasonable default behaviour for a general purpose caching
dns server to me.
libvirt uses dnsmasq (the binary, not the service) to provide dns and dhcp
services to virtual networks. If you're installing dnsmasq and libvirt-bin
alongside each other, you have to work out the conflicts yourself. I'm not
convinced there is a reasonable default fix for this case.

Can anyone else confirm this?

[Bug 240519] Re: sybase_* functions missing in php5-sybase for hardy

2008-06-20 Thread Chuck Short
Hardy introduced a regression that prevents sybase users from using
php5-sybase on hardy. This is due to a change in the packaging between
hardy and gutsy. Attached to this bug report is the patch that fixes the
issue.

TEST CASE:

1. Install php5-sybase with a sybase database.
2. Try to use php5-sybase with an actual sybase database.

Please note it would be easier for people who have sybase already
installed to test this SRU.

I have attached the patch that fixes this issue. If you have any
questions please let me know.

[Bug 227178] Re: [SRU] Slave slapd crashes when doing syncrepl

2008-06-20 Thread Anderson
Sorry, I didn't saw your packages before, because of version numbering.
I had installed packages from Chuck's PPA, with version
2.4.9-1ubuntu1~ppa1 and packages from hardy-proposed has version
2.4.9-0ubuntu0.8.04.

In order to allow automatic installation of hardy-proposed packages with
a standard dist-upgrade, can version numbering be changed?

I have fully upgraded it except for samba (samba, samba-client,

to upgrade samba and test, but obviously, it should fail (I'm doing it

Good luck! And please, post a fix.

[Bug 241802] [NEW] mysql clients ignore port specification when connecting to localhost

2008-06-20 Thread Derek Price
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mysql-admin

I can duplicate this with all of mysql, mysqldump, and the mysql-admin
GUI on 8.04LTS. This is not the behavior I am used to from the same
applications on 6.06LTS or the Windows ports of the same applications.

I normally create an SSH tunnel to a remote (6.06LTS) server where I run
a MySQL server (via `ssh -L localhost:33060:localhost:3306'). I also
run a local (8.04LTS) MySQL server.

When I specify a host of localhost and a port of 33060 to any of
mysql, mysqldump, or mysql-admin, the client will attach to the local
instance of MySQL server instead of the tunnel to the remote instance,
yet when I connect directly to 127.0.0.1, the connection works (I can
also work around this by defining some other alias for 127.0.0.1 in
/etc/hosts and using it). In the following transcript, note the local
MySQL instance is hardy's version 5.051a-3ubuntu5.1 and the remote
instance is dapper's version 5.0.22-Debian_0ubuntu6.06.9-log.

[Bug 241802] Re: mysql clients ignore port specification when connecting to localhost

2008-06-20 Thread Derek Price
Thanks for the link. I added a comment to the MySQL not-a-bug. I had
to agree with one of the previous posters that the current behavior is
quite insane.

It does sound like a work-around for at least some clients is to put
protocol=tcp in the [client] section of my.cnf (I confirmed that this
works for mysql mysql-admin, but the mysql bug mentions that some PHP
clients won't notice that). I think it would be much better to push
this upstream if the MySQL team regains its senses, but for now, maybe
adding that line to the Ubuntu my.cnf would be a good idea? My feeling
is that it is better not to cause connection errors and let the
performance tuners figure out that they should specify the socket
protocol for connections to localhost.

[Bug 57789] Re: Crossfading option causes skipping

2008-06-20 Thread Ramon Casha
Confirmed: Kubuntu 8.04, crossfading, Amarok 1.4.9.1
Xine output

I think it might have something to do with how busy the computer is at
the time - possibly in disk I/O. Could it be that if a disk-intensive
task is active when the track starts playing, Amarok thinks there's a
problem with the file itself and auto-skips to the next track?

[Bug 241546] [NEW] Drag and drop files from gmobilemedia to nautilus causes crash in Nautilus

2008-06-20 Thread Gergely J.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Steps to reproduce:

1) Install gmobilemedia package (and wammu)
2) Connect my Sony Ericsson K300i
3) Start gmobilemedia
4) Toolbar--“Connect” which connects to my cellphone
5) navigate to a Pictures directory
6) Click on a picture (in the background, the picture is downloaded into the
~/.gmobilemedia/cache directory)
7) Drag the picture from the gmobilemedia window in the ~/ nautilus window
8) Nautilus crashes.

Unfortunately I cannot find nautilus-debug-log.txt
Although there are some errors in gmobilemedia-error-log.txt, it is able to
list the directory of my phone and download files from it, so I don’t think
it’s a gmobilemedia bug. I filed the bug as a nautilus bug, because
gmobilemedia does not crash, only nautilus. How can I enable logging so that I
can attach a nautilus error log?

[Bug 241547] [NEW] [patch] Makefile race condition can lead to ndiswrapper build failure

2008-06-20 Thread Anders Kaseorg
Public bug reported:

ubuntu/ndiswrapper/Makefile has underspecified dependencies on the
generated $(EXPORTS) headers, leading to a race condition when building
in parallel. This race is most easily triggered by adding sleep 10 to
the top of ubuntu/ndiswrapper/mkexport.sh and
ubuntu/ndiswrapper/mkstubs.sh.

[Bug 239358] Re: Update Manager hangs in 8.04 LTS

2008-06-20 Thread yello
A single update this morning (libpq5) hung. I know straight away whether
it's going to work or not because if it's going to work I get asked for
the root password. If I don't get asked, it hangs.

Personally, my feeling is perhaps the problem is not in the update
manager itself (hence most people being fine) but something to do with
what it's updating; either the packages it's loading OR the system it's
updating.

Given that we're verifying Kubuntu's Guidance Power Manger in this bug,
I think it's not at all suprising that the KDE change didn't fix the

considerable improvement from this fix and I don't actually have the
problematic hardware. I think it's a definite improvement.

I get this problem with only 1 user. The computer crashes at random - no

The error started to appear after I installed a new SATA2-drive

yesterday I hadn't found any clues in the logs but yesterday my
computer crashed twice and on both occasions the following log entries

[Bug 241551] [NEW] Ubuntu 8.04 fails to resume from hibernation

2008-06-20 Thread ar-jar
Public bug reported:

When returning from hibernation, I get two different erroneous behaviors
depending on the graphics driver:
- With the NVidia native driver I eventually get a blank white screen where
there actually is a password textbox but I can only find it by moving the
cursor around (since everything is white). When typing in my password the
system resumes with a blank message box down to the right. I can't see what it
says but I guess it is a message box as it can be closed when (again blindly)
hitting the close icon.
- With the default graphics driver the system first shows the Ubuntu logo with
the boot progress bar end then hangs with an enlarged and down-shifted Ubunto
logo on the screen.

I'm running an AMD Phenom 9750 Quad-Core 2.4 GHz on a Gigabyte GA-MA770-DS3
motherboard with a Gigabyte GeForce 8600GT graphics board.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance. I'm new to the Ubuntu
world but fairly computer-literate in general.
I'm running all the latest updates as of June 20, 9.29AM. No software in
addition to the standard 8.04 desktop distribution has been added to the
machine as of yet.

[Bug 215902] Re: dashed line type pdf problem

2008-06-20 Thread Ketil Malde
I see exactly this behavior (as described by the initial poster) with current
Inkscape/Cairo from Hardy.
More specifically:

  - print or save as PDF/PS via Cairo makes dashed lines unbounded at one end
  - print via the print preview fails to render (some?) transparent objects at
all
  - save as (non-cairo) PS makes transparent objects solid

(In the end, I replaced all my dashed lines with solid ones, and used
Cairo)

[Bug 241546] Re: Drag and drop files from gmobilemedia to nautilus causes crash in Nautilus

2008-06-20 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 5973] Re: GnuCash doesn't support HBCI

2008-06-20 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Updated packages are available at
https://launchpad.net/~gnucash/+archive. The name seems to suggest
there is a version of gnucash 2.2.4 with hbci support available. But
the relevant menu entries are missing. I compiled gnucash on my own and
can happily report that hbci is working rather nicely with aqbanking3.
We should be seeing some progress here, soon.

Thanks, Micha.

[Bug 197156] Re: DNS problems when running VPN connections

2008-06-20 Thread Henning Eggers
Is network manager aware of resolvconf at all? On installation
resolvconf hooks itself into /etc/network, /etc/ppp and others. It seems
like network manager and resolvconf interfere with each others'
modifications on /etc/resolv.conf.

So the solution might be to either mark those two packages as mutually
exclusive or make the two aware of each other.
