[Bug 242435] [NEW] Unlock button disabled

2008-06-23 Thread Ops
Public bug reported:

Hello guys, accidentally i disabled the DBUS service via Places > Admin
> Services and now everytime in log in i have to start it manually, but
that is not the problem...

When i start it manually, i can access the Services menu again but the
unlock button is disable and i cant put my password to enable the Dbus
service again. I know i can do it via terminal, but would be easier if i
could do it via gui.

I´m using Hardy Heron

[Bug 242437] [NEW] Eye of Gnome displays 99% zoom as default view size

[Bug 242438] [NEW] compiz update 1:0.7.4-0ubuntu7 doesn't include compiz-kde update

2008-06-23 Thread Joel Berger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Using 8.04, compiz-core from hardy-updates repository.
deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ hardy main restricted

The last update to compiz bumps the version to 1:0.7.4-0ubuntu7. This
causes apt-get to remove compiz-kde as there is no corresponding update
for this package and it depends on an exact version of compiz-core
/compiz-plugins. (Latest version of compiz-kde after apt-get update is
1:0.7.4-ubuntu6, which depends on an identical version number for
compiz-core/compiz-plugins.) Compiz still operates, but the KDE look
and feel (and config integration) is gone.

[Bug 242434] [NEW] QEMU guest doesn't start with no CD in the drive

2008-06-23 Thread Sense Hofstede
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qemu

I've got a virtual Ubuntu Server installed with virt-manager. I intended
to use KVM, but I'm not sure whether KVM or QEMU is used at the moment.
My system does support KVM.

virtual CD/DVD drive, which is probably not a surprise. But now I haven't done
that anymore and the server isn't running. When I tried to start it manually in

[Bug 242010] Re: terminal will not accept my login password-ubuntu 8.04

2008-06-23 Thread mcas
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How
to report bugs effectively" [WWW]
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at [WWW]
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 242430] [NEW] Hardy: Rhythmbox hangs when moving forward in Large file

2008-06-23 Thread Sam Williams
Public bug reported:

I have a Hardy Heron installation that is kept updated on a near daily
basis. Since moving to Hardy I have been experiencing this problem where
fast-forwarding into a podcast file ( mp3 / ogg ) causes the player to
hang and need to ultimately be killed.

DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=8.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=hardy
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 8.04"

Package: rhythmbox
Status: install ok installed
Priority: optional
Section: gnome
Version: 0.11.5-0ubuntu8

I have attached a copy of an strace listing showing what was going on at
the time the program froze. The program was 54 minutes long and when I
move the slider bar to 31 minutes I get a hang that doesn't return. i
ultimately had to kill the player with a HUP. I have experienced the
problem with many different large audio files particularly podcasts. The
strace was taken from the latest "Fresh Ubuntu Podcast" which is in
ogg format and is approxiately 20 mbytes in size. I will also attach
this file separately as an aid to helping debug the problem.

[Bug 242431] [NEW] gnutls_check_version() does not support multiple versions

2008-06-23 Thread matt felser
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnutls-bin

I installed libgnutls26 (2.2.1) from the Debian testing repository, as I
needed to use mod_gnutls for Apache. Dependencies required me to keep
libgnutls13 (2.0.4) installed as well. When I tried to restart Apache,
I was given an error stating:

gnutls_check_version() failed. Required: gnutls-2.2.1 Found: gnutls-2.0.4
Pre-configuration failed

The function either detected the older version and failed immediately or
it failed to detect the newer version.

Currently, I cannot start Apache while using mod_gnutls. Is there a
workaround to bypass this check, or could someone correct it?

[Bug 242375] Re: firefox crashed with SIGSEGV in snd_pcm_state()

2008-06-23 Thread George Dumitrescu
Hy.

The crash is probably random, I do not know how to reproduce it yet.

I've installed flash player 10 beta because of Bug #239233 who crashes
my gnome and X.org when minimizing the browser, if i've had opened few
pages with flash in it.

The Java package is the default from Ubuntu installation. I think that
is 5.

Extensions: Firebug 1.2.0a21X ; Firefox Showcase 0.9.4.6 ; Ubuntu
Firefox modifications 0.5. They are all installed from "Get Ubuntu

[Bug 242426] [NEW] Ark hangs when file/directory name on NTFS contains a colon

2008-06-23 Thread luba
Public bug reported:

What I did:
- I installed Kubuntu 8.04 (I always update when Adept_updater suggests it) in
parallel with WinXPSP2, which is installed on NTFS partitions.
- I used Firefox to save some webpages directly on a NTFS partition. These
webpages had colons (":") in their title so FF used that as file/directory
names. I justed clicked on "save".
- I right-clicked the directory where I saved all these files an chose compress
to ZIP.
- The Ark status windows comes. It seems like it is proceeding (the rectangle
in the bar goes from the left to the right and back all the time) but the
hard-drive doesn't do anything.

In Windows, 7zip says that it can't open that directories. However, I
can see them in the Windows Explorer but I can't rename them there. I
have to do that in Kubuntu. When I have removed the colons there by
renaming, everything works as it should.

As far as I know, NTFS internally uses a colon to seperate the (hidden)
ADS part from the rest of the filename.

I know that Linux and MS are completely different worlds, but in my opionion as
user:
- NTFS-3G shouldn't allow colons in filenames.
- Applications like Firefox shouldn't suggest names with colons (or should have
at least an option in the settings to change that)
- Ark should abort trying to open these files and notify me.

[Bug 201205] Re: screenlets-manager.py crashed with IOError in lookup_daemon_autostart()

2008-06-23 Thread Kjell Braden
Thanks for taking your time to report this bug.
In case this still happens to you, can you please provide the output of the
following command:

Did you run the screenlets-daemon with sudo?

Thanks

[Bug 185311] Re: hardy, locking assertion failure, xorg/libsdl

2008-06-23 Thread Aleksander Demko
I've also tested Bryce's non-xcb libs and they also fix my Matlab
issues completely. They also fix my Maple issues, which is reasonable as
both packages share a Java foundation in their GUI. I bet this fixes
bugs with many other software packages too.

I hope the non-xcb backed X11 libraries go back into Hardy, especially
as it's a LTS release. Installing Hardy and finding many packages break
is quite disconcerting. I'm not sure how many applications use xcb and
X11 together, but surely sacrificing the stability of older applications
isn't worth it just to run a few xcb+x11 mixed programs.

[Bug 195982] Re: Shift key (and caps lock) stop working when using VMWare

2008-06-23 Thread Brian Murray
I have no config file in my ~/.vmware directory. Should create one
using the information from comment 133 or would I need more information
in it?

** Description changed:

After a day or so of running the shift key mysteriously stops working as
does the cap lock. In other words I cannot enter shifted characters of
any kind. The keyboard is connected to a KVM and all other systems
respond to it properly. In additional any VMWare sessions I have open
respond correctly. So I have the condition where all non-vmware
applications in Ubuntu Hardy (all updates applied as of 2008-02-26 at
12:43 UTC) fail to recognize the shift key BUT applications within an
active (a paused/restarted session also works) VMWare sessions running
  DO recognize the key.

When this condition occurs ALL applications (except those within a
VMWare session) are also unstable and will usually crash within a few
keystrokes. If I continue to operate in this mode. I cannot pinpoint
what, if any, application triggers this. It has always happened while
working within terminal/browser/vmware sessions and NOT when opening a
new application. It could be related to the KVM switch, but none of my
other systems (2 Mandriva, 1 Windows) are affected by this.

This bug has been present on my system for a number of days across daily
updates and reboots (if the update requested it) and I think since I
  installed Hardy Alpha 1.

A work around: log off and back on. A reboot/restart does not appear to
  be needed.

Error logs show some unusual activity.

  --- MARK
  ...
  ... kernel ... rtc lost 7 interrupts ...
  --- MARK ---

Plus some segfaults indicating which application crashed as I tried to
type into it (mouse works fine).

System: HP dv9743cl (which otherwise works lovely)
  Ubuntu: Hardy 8.04 (from lsb-release)
+
+
+ TEST CASE:
+ 1. Click inside the VM and

+ 2. Hold any of the Ctrl, Alt and/or shift keys while releasing the
keyboard/mouse to the host OS (which you obviously do when you press Crtl-Alt
to revert back to windowed mode, as the cursor is then released from the VM).
+
+ WORKAROUND:
+ After this happens to recover your keyboard execute 'setxkbmap' in a terminal

[Bug 215499] Re: Nautilus not preserving timestamps

2008-06-23 Thread Graeme Harrison
I think it is REALLY URGENT that a general fix get out there for all Ubuntu
users. I (and everyone else) am wildly promoting 8.04 as the Vista
alternative... and it strikes me as plain silly to not fix this problem pronto.
It is so off-putting to use an OS that cannot keep file dates correct that
I'd suggest fixing it in Nautilus if needs be, and if/when lower level modules
are fixed to no longer cause the problem, THEN remove the workaround in
Nautilus.
The suggestion that it has anything to do with 'design decisions' is a
FURPHY... There is NO JUSTIFICATION for 'touching' (ie redating) a set of files
simply because they are copied unaltered to another location (esp on same
computer). The bug is presumably that, as permissions are added to files not
in *nix file system, someone decided to 're-date' file, as if someone had
edited something but it will always be just a bug. The Russian commentator
was right - when you have two copies of a file (unaltered) you have two
instances of the one file and NOT two files of different dates!
The fact that you can't 'reliably' copy photos from your camera, or files off a
removable drive etc is a SEVERE error for any user. Yes, you can use Archive
Manager to do a tar.gz zip file of them and then Extract them on the target
drive... but it slows down a file copy 50x. The error is so severe as to
prevent average users from using the OS... so it is critical that it be fixed
FOR ALL USERS quickly.

IT policy, on team of five which developed first electronic spreadsheet -
Visicalc - at Harvard Business School in 1978, etc)

Since gedit has long since migrated to the new printing dialog, which
now supports reverse printing. I see no reason why this bug can't die
now. I don't know what the proper procedure is for terminating this
kind of bug (the bug was never fixed, but the code it inhabited was
replaced with a better alternative, thereby making the bug irrelevant),
but the devs can do whatever they want with this bug report to clean up

[Bug 242419] [NEW] systray icon disapears when mouse cursor moves over it.

[Bug 242418] [NEW] while importing a photo, F-spot should ask for overwrite or ignore for one or all photos

2008-06-23 Thread Cyrille Grosdemange
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

Actually, I import photos from my iPhone (Apple).
I use a special directory to stock my iPhone photos and I don't want to delete
them from the iPhone. So importing photos with F-spot looks like a
synchronisation...

When I try to import my photos, a few of them are already in the directory, so
I have a message box from F-spot like :
---
Win32 IO returned ERROR_ALREADY_EXISTS. Path
/home/cyrille/Photos/iPhone/img_048.jpg
[...]
[ Erreur lors du transfert de fichier ] (french for : File transfer
error)
---

and then, we can choose :
- retry (fail because the photo is still here...)
- ignore (I must do that for ALL the photos :/ )
- cancel (quit F-spot)

F-spot should REALLY allow us to :
- overwrite / overwrite all
- ignore / ignore all

because when you have for example, 250 photos already imported and you
want to reimport them with 20 new photos (all the photos stocked in the
device, without choosing which one you must import or not...), it takes
a long time...

[Bug 238163] Re: keyfile doesn't work in initramfs

2008-06-23 Thread Nikolaus Rath
Ok, after I recovered my system, the intrepid cryptsetup works
partially. Unfortunately I can't really tell what the important change
was. I booted from a rescue system, reinstalled the hardy cryptsetup,
used the opportunity to change some of my device labels and cleaned up
/etc/fstab, /etc/cryptsetup and /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume.

What happens now is that I can boot my system normally with intrepid
cryptsetup using a keyfile for all partitions except /. However, I am
unable to resume. If I hibernate the system, then afterwards it starts
up normally and only brings up the swap device together with the other
partitions later in the boot process instead of right after the root fs
in the initramdisk. The hibernation works fine though, when the swap is
activated I get a warning that it contains a valid resume signature.

[Bug 242412] [NEW] Slow gtk filechooser

2008-06-23 Thread Kitt Tientanopajai
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgtk2.0-0

I'm now using libgtk2.0-0 version 2.12.9-3ubuntu4. I got about 20 sec.
stall every time I open/save/save as through gtk filechooser.

I'm not sure if this bug is duplicated/related to:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/189494
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/218230
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/229539

However, the result from strace suggests that it's about my bookmarks:

  22:42:24.002490 open("/home/kitt/.gtk-bookmarks", O_RDONLY|O_LARGEFILE) = 8
<0.36>
  ...
  22:42:24.010359 poll([{fd=8, events=POLLIN}], 1, 25000) = 0 <24.999541>

I've found that my bookmarks contain network locations (i.e., sftp, and
smb). Removing those locations solves the problem.

[Bug 43932] Re: Suspend does not work in Sony Vaio (FS810 /W)

2008-06-23 Thread Sebastian Gaul
Hallo,

I have no idea if my vaio fe-48e is the same, but suspend doesn't work
in any way under gutsy and hardy using gnome desktop. Sometimes the
first suspend works and it comes out again, but trying again leads to a
black screen freeze with running fans etc.

Some days ago I tried Archlinux with KDE and was wondering that suspend
to RAM works very fine without any problems. Of course I tried Gnome
with Archlinux, but there the problem is the same like on ubuntu. So it
looks like there's a problem with Gnome and my laptop.

Does this help to find a solution for my suspend problem?

[Bug 211644] Re: [hardy] Sound card hda Intel doesn't work with kernel 2.6.24 series

2008-06-23 Thread Greenery
I have problem with sound ever since the upgrade to Hardy. The sound
comes and goes from the speaker but on my headphone it plays smoothly,
no loss of sound. I am really annoyed with sound playing intermittently
on the speaker. All the kernel 2.6.24.XX version still gives sound
problem. Now updating the kernel to the latest one and see if the
problem still persists.

Output of lspci -vvnn is attached.
