[Bug 90681] Re: resolv.conf overwritten using VPN/PPP etc...
I suppose some people might have problems if their VPN solution completely replaces /etc/resolv.conf. That might require a more sophisticated solution This is the case for me. My resolv.conf gets replaced whenever I connect to my vpn. This is to avoid doing dns resolution on an untrusted network (e.g., free wifi at coffee shop). Also in cases where the network I'm on is sandboxed, such as the wireless segment of my lan, there is limited DNS resolution available. In this case, full dns resolution must be done at the trusted end of the tunnel. When the dhcp renewal blows away my trusted resolv.conf, then the result is either that DNS resolution moves to the untrusted network, or DNS resolution breaks because resolv.conf now points to the sandbox DNS address. -- resolv.conf overwritten using VPN/PPP etc... https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/90681 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dhcp3 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 245493] Re: sharing a folder reports permission issues in Hardy Heron (32 bit)
mcas, I think the behavoir I described about the folder sharing is a real bug or, however, there is a bug in the steps that bring to make a share as an unexperienced user couldn't create a share the first time (as Ubuntu didn't tell to him to restart X or the system as whole) and he should spent much time to find a reason to solve the problem (maybe if he came from Windows he should try to reboot anyway :-) I think that, until to find a better solution, proposing a restart (like the system already do in the notification bar after installing new kernels) could be an immediate, functionally, and maybe simple to implement, solution to solve this bug. -- sharing a folder reports permission issues in Hardy Heron (32 bit) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/245493 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 120375] Re: cannot boot raid1 with only one disk
I have been fighting installing a RAID setup with 8.04 + GRUB for about 20 hours. My old setup used a CF card mounted as /boot but I can't get that to work with some newer hardware and with grub and 8.04. This worked fine under 6.x and 7.x... So I give up and set up a md RAID 1 partition as ext2 as /boot at the start of my disk, I get grub installed on both drives no problem and now I hit this. It took a long time to figure out what was going on as I thought it was hanging because the scripts take so long to time out... it needs to say something like waiting for root device to spin up if it hits the part of the script looking for a removable root device so you can quickly identify what is going on. I find it amazing that it has been going for a full year. The issue I have is that I am using RAID and redundant disks for my boot/root partition so that I can be hardware agnostic and not have to worry about getting the system up and going if I think my hardware RAID card is flaking out. If I can't boot the thing with a failed disk without having to google up the commands to get the array going it's just about worthless. If someone participating in this bug has a good description of how to get it to work automatically with 8.04 I would really appreciate it if they could post either the modified initramfs scripts or whatever it takes to get it working. -- cannot boot raid1 with only one disk https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/120375 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is a subscriber of a duplicate bug. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 234368] Re: Secondary keyboard layouts invalid after Reboot
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 23762 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/23762 Further use suggests that when Gnome's keyboard preferences applet changes keyboard layouts, it only changes the keys mentioned directly in a configuration file, rather than those included by reference. Perhaps the program should chdir() to the correct location before calling xkb? I assume that Gnome's keyboard preferences uses XKB behind the scenes. XKB stores its configuration files in /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols, and allows symbol tables to be include other symbol tables by reference. The 'gb(dvorak)' layout includes 'us(dvorak)' then just redefines half a dozen keys. Similarly, 'gb(intl)' includes 'latin' and 'level3(ralt_switch)', and defines eight keys itself. Have a look at /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/gb to see what I'm talking about. I have my XkbLayout set to gb(dvorak) in /etc/X11/xorg.conf, and two layouts defined in keyboard preferences: UK Dvorak and UK international. When I change layouts from Dvorak to international, the keys specified directly in gb(intl) change to their expected meanings, but the other keys remain those of gb(dvorak). In other words, the settings that should be included from 'latin' and 'level3(ralt_switch)' are ignored. It seems very much as if the 'include' commands in the Xkb configuration file are being ignored. ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 23762 Gnome Keyboard layout changes are lost after reboot/-start -- Secondary keyboard layouts invalid after Reboot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/234368 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 219587] Re: 03-turn_on_buggy-repeat_handling.dpatch causes slowdown in Evolution
Evolution now scrolls somewhat faster, but the scrollbar now severely lags, which means it is only updated with approx. 1 fps (so the email view scrolls but the scrollbar itself stays at the old position for some ms and then pops to the right place). Plus I have the opposite behaviour of Gustavo Carneiro, gmail is NOW scrolling very slow, I believe it used to scroll fast before this update. firefox seems to scroll a bit faster on other pages, though, but causes X to consume 50% cpu (this was the same before the update). Re: [Bug 179750] Re: Document Properties error - wrong data
Hi Chris, thanks for looking into this. I was thinking about it and the way I usually make a new invoice is to open an old, existing invoice, and then save as with the new invoice number, and then change the contents. Then I do a normal save when it's complete and ready to send. And I suspect the document properties remain the same as the original invoice I've used, when they should perhaps (?) reset as though it has never been printed. I've never tried to do this in Windows to test its behaviour so I'm not sure what the best solution is. It isn't a big issue, but it is nice to be able to refer to when a document was printed when auditing paperwork months later. Please find an attached document which shows the issue. [Bug 186448] Re: Firefox/Thunderbird Preferences Window too short
How to select/access invisible parts in Thunderbird (Firefox) when window is cut off! If this issue is still relevant to anybody...while I haven`t found a bug fix, the easiest way to access non visible parts in Thunderbird Account Settings etc. is using your PC`s TAB key...click on the uppermost visible part in the settings window, then start pressing the TAB key and it will either highlight or dotframe selected settings in succession...if the next visible part is not highlighted or dotframed, then you know you have hit an invisible setting, press Enter...and there you go. -- Firefox/Thunderbird Preferences Window too short https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/186448 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 226641] Re: Mouse not working right
Top-level question: Is this issue p-DoS related? ( See permanent Denial- of-Service thread(s) ) Questions by order of scale and relevancy: Mouse fails to move window when trying to click and drag. (A) Is the mouse communicating with /dev/psaux or /dev/usbdev*? Mabe in relation to this i also cannot select group of files from desktop into another folder (B) If A is true, then are all relevant GNOME, KDE3-4, XFCE4 or XWindows shared libraries and all other logistics- and operation-required files aware that that mouse is communicating with the device files previously mentioned? Mouse mabe in relation again will select and de-select buttons and or text at random. (C) If A and B are true, then are both the XHTML-compliant Web browser and machine copy/paste histories functioning properly? ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid ** bug changed to question: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+question/38186 -- Mouse not working right https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/226641 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
