[Bug 224061] Re: package samba-common 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade:

2008-08-17 Thread Steve Langasek
Part of the problem is that the following two English choices:

show the differences between the versions
show a side-by-side difference between the versions

in ucf are translated as follows into Italian:

mostrare le differenze tra le versioni
mostrare le differenze tra le versioni

This obviously gives the user no way to distinguish between the two.

The other problem is that choosing 'show the differences' is apparently
not displaying the differences in the debconf UI, like it's supposed to.
This is probably another bug in ucf, but I'm not sure where the bug
lies. ZioNemo, can you send a copy of your /etc/samba/smb.conf file
from this failure?

[Bug 224317] Re: Minimal rights samba share

2008-08-17 Thread Steve Langasek
I don't believe that the uid and gid options should have any effect
here; the problem is not in the ownership of the file, but that the
permissions of the created file as shown on the client are not
consistent with the share configuration and mount options. This
indicates that the kernel client is somehow caching what it believes the
file permissions to be, and believes them to be other than what is set
with the file_mode and dir_mode options.

This precise behavior is reproducible only when using unix extensions =
no on the server side. On the client side, here is the minimal set of
mount options needed to reproduce:

  mount -tcifs //server/public_share /mnt/tmp -o
file_mode=0777,guest,sec=none

(Note that the lfs option is a no-op for cifs, and the codepage option
is a no-op for any server that supports Unicode.)

I'm reassigning this to the linux package, since the implementation of
cifs is in the kernel.

markba, as a workaround you can add the 'noperm' mount option to
completely bypass the buggy client permissions behavior.

[Bug 228619] Re: samba group share not writable by group members

2008-08-17 Thread Steve Langasek
as explained in the smb.conf manpage that has been cited here, the
'create mask' will only ever /restrict/ the permissions set on files, it
will not /add/ to the permissions; so to force group permissions on, you
should use 'force create mode = 060'.

Since there is a follow-up noting that this does work, I'm closing this
bug as invalid.

[Bug 235959] Re: smbclient -L gives NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE

2008-08-17 Thread Steve Langasek
Hi airween,

What is the server that you're connecting against?

The presence of ANSI and Unicode password fields at /all/ in your packet
trace suggests that the server is using plaintext password
authentication. This is disabled by default in 8.04 for security
reasons; to enable it, you would set 'client plaintext auth = yes' in
the [global] section of /etc/samba/smb.conf. However, if this is the
cause of the failure then there should also be an error message saying:

Server requested plaintext password but 'client use plaintext auth' is
disabled

which you don't have here; so maybe getting information about your
server would help diagnose this further.

[Bug 247771] Re: Dell Inspiron 8000 Hardware graphics adapter support ATI Mobility M4 Display corruption rendering fault-Split display

2008-08-17 Thread darrylhadfield
I've got an identical machine that I wanted to load Ubuntu onto - and
had the same issue.

Specifically, during install the screen goes to full-screen mode,
800x600, and the screen 'folds' over itself so to speak - and the
installation boxes do not fully view.

I downloaded the 8.10 live CD, and it did the same thing.

I then proceeded to install in safe-graphics mode and it displays as
desired, but in 800x600 mode but not using the entire screen...

Thought you might like to know. I've done a hardware test and will
upload the results shortly.

I'd like to disagree with the latter part of that comment (the focus in

It irritated me too. Colour simply helps when you are scanning the

does work now.

As for tovidgui, it shouldn't fail - it was patched to find the
utilities where they are. If it does fail (and if you're sure that both
tovidgui and the utilities are from the Hardy package), then it _is_ a
bug - but I can't reproduce it.

[Bug 200379] Re: [KDE4] hardy, khtml/kdecore, konqueror crashed during regular use

2008-08-17 Thread Mikael Gerdin
I've experienced crashes on this assertion several times with Konqueror 4.1 in
Hardy using the kubuntu-members-kde4 ppa. It happens irregularly when i close
Konqueror (which is not so strange as it's KHTMLFactory's destructor that calls
KHTMLGlobal::finalCheck() which contains the assertion.)
Right now I can't reproduce it (obviously ;P) but I know that it still happens
with 4.1.

[Bug 219555] Re: Svg image loading makes webbrowser crash - undefined symbol: cairo_path_extents

2008-08-17 Thread Hew McLachlan
*-dbgsym packages can be ignored. You have libcairo2-dev, which the
original reporter of the bug also had. I installed this package, but
still do not experience the issue.

The problem seems to be that you have:
libcairo.so.2 = /usr/local/lib/libcairo.so.2
rather than:
libcairo.so.2 = /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2

Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since
this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work,
I'm going to mark it as triaged and let them handle it from here. Thanks
for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!

[Bug 258731] [NEW] Cannot perform concurrent push to different branches in the same Subversion

2008-08-17 Thread Russel Winder
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bzr-svn

A Subversion repository comprises many branches whereas each Bazaar
branch is independent -- obvious fact, but there are consequences. In
particular, two Bazaar branches related to the same Subversion
repository are data coupled in a way that is counter-intuitive -- the
branches are independent and all local operations can be carried out
concurrently, but any operations involving the Subversion repository
must be serialized. Yet this is not obvious as the Bazaar branches are
independent entities, the user has to remember that they are in fact
associated with the same Subversion store.

Moreover the error message reported when a problem occurs is not the
right error message, this is not a Bazaar failure except insofar that
the error message is wrong and Bazaar should be dealing with this a lot
better than it currently does. I propose that when a lock is
encountered there is a message output and then the process backs off for
a retry rather than just failing with a catastrophic error such as:

 Using saved location: svn+https://svn.codehaus.org/gant/gant/branches/1.4.x
The svn+ syntax is deprecated, use
https://svn.codehaus.org/gant/gant/branches/1.4.x instead.

[Bug 239917] Re: [intrepid] emacs windows don ’t display after compiz 0.7.6 upgrade

2008-08-17 Thread Anders Kaseorg
Aha. After starting an invisible emacs window, you can make it be
displayed with Ctrl+Alt+Tab, which is bound to the Static Application
Switcher’s “Next window (All windows)”. This suggests that the window
is not actually invisible but is initially opened very far off the
screen.

Compiz’s default “Smart” window placement algorithm seems to be at
fault. If you set ccsm → Place Windows → Placement Mode to anything
other than “Smart”, the emacs windows are displayed.

[Bug 216043] Re: compiz.real crashed with SIGSEGV

2008-08-17 Thread Ian Gordon
Read mail and played solitaire in Heron. No problems. Booted and logged
into Intrepid and entered mahjongg and made a few moves. Then the error.
The effect I'm interested in is fading a window to see what's
underneath.
