[Bug 216465] Re: [Hardy] public Samba SMB shares cannot be accessed anonymously from Windows XP

2008-08-27 Thread oss_test_launchpad
I confirm this bug for Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 4+. Trying to connect to a
company SMB network server share. Nautilus tells me:

Could not display smb://servername/myshare$/ - Einhängen des Ortes nicht
möglich.

This worked ok when I used 8.04. However, nautilus shows the share as
mounted (gets a shortcut on the left side, as a cd would which has been
inserted into a local drive). When I press the eject (unmount) button
for this share, I sometimes get the following error message:

Could not display smb://servername/myshare$/. Fehler: DBus error
org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: Mountpoint Already registered - Bitte
wählen Sie einen anderen Betrachter und versuchen Sie es erneut.

I entered my account data the first time I tried to connect. Strangely enough,
in the properties you can see how many files there are on this share and how
much data there is all in all, but the file list cannot be displayed.

[Bug 209520] Re: SMB error: Unable to mount location when server configured with security=share

2008-08-27 Thread oss_test_launchpad

I reported this bug under

going more into it, I think this was the wrong thread to report this to.

[Bug 261809] [NEW] freeradius listen on random port

2008-08-27 Thread Antonin Vitecek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: freeradius

1) Description: Ubuntu intrepid (development branch)
Release:8.10

2) freeradius:
  Installed: 2.0.4+dfsg-4
  Candidate: 2.0.4+dfsg-4
  Version table:
 *** 2.0.4+dfsg-4 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) In radiusd.conf I have:
 listen {
type = auth
ipaddr = 127.0.0.1
port = 1812
}

or when I start freeradius manually: freeradius -i 127.0.0.1 -p 1812 -X
The daemon should be listening at specified port.

4) But what I get in log is:

Listening on authentication address * port 44972
Listening on accounting address * port 50894
Listening on proxy address * port 39648

Seems that this is the same problem
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=413250
2.0.5 version should solve it.

Re: [Bug 261698] Re: Please add UFW profile integration with postfix

2008-08-27 Thread nxvl
That's what is happening here, the profile Postfix it's what is being
enable, you also have Postfix Secure which is configured but not being
used, the idea of that is that i don't need to configure the rules by
port, but by service.

[Bug 261698] Re: Please add UFW profile integration with postfix

2008-08-27 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Package integration for ufw was discussed in UDS Prague, and you can
read about ufw's application integration in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuFirewall. The basic idea is this:

1. a package declares profiles to ufw by putting them in a file in
/etc/ufw/applications.d (*). There should only be a limited number of common
profiles from which the user can choose. Eg, a webserver might open port 80,
port 443 or both.
2. the postinst of this package runs 'ufw app update --add-new profile',
where profile is a profile which declares the ports that the application is
listening on after installation (perhaps this is decided via debconf logic,
perhaps not).

'ufw app update --add-new profile' will *not* open up any ports in the
firewall unless the administrator has changed the default application
policy. The above command does nothing if ufw is disabled. An
administrator need not use application profiles at all, so if he/she
wants to use port 2525 for postfix, then he/she can add a rule like 'ufw
allow 2525/tcp' just like always. Please see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuFirewall and 'man ufw' for details.

(*) I am actually going to change this to /etc/firewall.d for easier
inclusion into Debian

Title for Port 587 should be Submission.

I understand all that (I think). I'm arguing that having the profile
open ports that may or may not be in use (neither 465 nor 587 are
enabled by default) is not optimal. I think this should just open port
25.

means that for now there is no default profile and nothing will be

accordingly for the dpkg triggers.

[Bug 261952] [NEW] passwd does not work whith special smb.conf options (maybe a libpam-smbpass bug?)

2008-08-27 Thread Robert Kofler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libpam-smbpass

I found out that I could not change my password (as root) with passwd when the
smb.conf options
   passdb backend = /etc/samba/smbpasswd
was set.

and:
an 'adduser username' command created an entry in /etc/shaddow but with
missing encrypted password.

this also affects login (of existing users), so I guess some libpam-
smbpass bug prevent the passwd program from correctly processing the
password input.

message from auth.log
passwd[18790]: pam_smbpass(passwd:chauthtok): unrecognized option [missingok]

maybe a similar bug:
http://osdir.com/ml/debian.packages.adduser.devel/2006-10/msg00038.html

but with the following (similar) smb.conf option things worked:
   smb passwd file = /etc/samba/smbpasswd

message for that from auth.log

[Bug 261956] [NEW] libmysqlclient15off requires mysql-common = 5.0.67-0ubuntu2

2008-08-27 Thread Martin Hignett
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mysql-common

In Kubuntu Intrepid Alpha 6, libmysqlclient15off requires mysql-common
= 5.0.67-0ubuntu2, but the latest version in the repositories is
5.0.67-0ubuntu1. In fact a lot of packages directly or indirectly depend
on this, including the KDE desktop and subversion so I think the bug is
in mysql-common not libmysqlclient15off

[Bug 261472] Re: [Gutsy][NetworkManager] No applet anymore

2008-08-27 Thread Internux
Hello,
I was about to post more informations, but the users had to use his computer.
So. here is an interesting output from .xsession-errors:

** (nm-applet:6578): WARNING **: WARN  nma_dbus_init(): could not
acquire its service. dbus_bus_acquire_service() says: 'Connection
:1.21 is not allowed to own the service
org.freedesktop.NetworkManagerInfo due to security policies in the
configuration file'

We didn't change anything on those computer, just apply ubuntu
updates It worked fine until Thursday or Friday, then no applet
anymore.

I tried to restart dbus daemon then restart nm-applet from the shell,
same error. With a sudo nm-applet it works, but we could launch it
as user, before.

In syslog, we can only see that NM daemon is started, that it works (catch
dhcp server, sets IP, DNS and so on).
It just appears to be a bit silly, as it deactivates eth0 many times before
catching network. Network cable was plugged all the time [computer boots with
it], and our network is all right (gentoo has no problem, with dhcpcd or
dhclient, it find in 5s an IP for my computer)
There are some warnings:

WARN  nm_dhcp_manager_begin_transaction(): dhcdbd not running!
[snip]
WARN  nm_spawn_process(): nm_spawn_process('/usr/sbin/nscd -i hosts'): could
not spawn process. (Failed to execute child process /usr/sbin/nscd (No such
file or directory))

But I don't think it's related to the Applet.

We find the same logs than syslog in daemon.log

So, seems something in config file has changed. Maybe a group added in
which we have to add our user so that it can access the dbus ressource ?

Hope it will help you.

Regards,

C.

it is now all OK.

Actually as Till mentioned this probably should be a function of the
Cups options for the printer, since both /etc/papersize and the locale

Status in “openoffice.org” source package in Ubuntu: Fix Released

Bug description:

openoffice.org2. When I open a new document in Writer,
Formatpagepageformat is correctly is set to letter but

[Bug 236148] Re: Nexuiz 2.4.2

2008-08-27 Thread David Masover
Not even 2.4.1 -- it's 2.4-1, which I take to mean 2.4, Ubuntu patch 1.

The problem is, even if the game is playable, there's a nag screen which
I haven't found a way to turn off short of modifying the code. By nag
screen, I mean something which flies through the screen, blocking your
view, while you're playing -- not something you can click through.

So the package, as it stands, is plainly broken -- it should either NOT
nag the player (at least for singleplayer), or it should be the current
version.

The common suggestion on the forums is to uninstall the Ubuntu package
and download the zipfile. The only other fix that I can see is to
upgrade to Intrepid -- the obvious problem being that Nexuiz will itself
likely upgrade at some point during the Intrepid cycle.

[Bug 261596] Re: fails to start

2008-08-27 Thread Benny
As a GRAMPS coder I can only say it appears to be a problem with the changes to
spell checking done in Ubuntu.
So this should be filed under pygtk/spellchecking ?

The only solution at the moment would be to deactivate the spell checking in
Gramps by editing the file src/Spell.py
That would be most unfortunated for GRAMPS however

[Bug 261757] [NEW] nautilus does not open *.svg files directly

2008-08-27 Thread danieloarso
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

In the file properties *.svg files have Inkscape marked in open with
dialog

However, when I double click I get that the dialog (maybe is bad translated to
english) Do you want to open file or wiew its content: file is a text
executable: open in a shell - show - cancel -execute
If I press execute, nothing happens.

So I always have to open these files with secondary click, open with.
But moreover, Inkscape is not in the 5 program first list, so I have to
select open with another app (where Inkscape is 3rd in the long list)

If I mark *.pdf files open with Inkscape, it opens the pdf in Inkscape
directly

Dan

[Bug 259041] Re: 0.7 nokia 3109c not detected as GPRS modem by NetworkManager

2008-08-27 Thread Jarmo Ilonen
One more Nokia phone not detected (and probably a hundred models to go)

I wonder if it is sane to add a bug and make a separate edit in
10-modem.fdi for each of them, or if some other data from hal could be
used for matching the phones... No new phones after the release will
work this way, and I doubt if even half of the old ones will be
supported either before intrepid is released.

[Bug 244670] Re: [hardy] Request of update of aMule to 2.2.1 final release

2008-08-27 Thread Fabio Pedretti
This bug refers to update amule in Ubuntu 8.04, not in intrepid, because
the current SVN version is obsolete and don't work with other ed2k
software.

Also it was decided to update to 2.2.2 which fixes some security
problems in the protocol.

** Changed in: amule (Ubuntu)
   Status: Fix Released = Confirmed

** Summary changed:

- [hardy] Request of update of aMule to 2.2.1 final release
+ [hardy] Request of update of aMule to 2.2.2 final release

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: amule

  Hi all! :D

The current version of aMule in Ubuntu 8.04 is not a stable version
(2.2.0~svn20080218-0ubuntu4, it is a svn snapshot). Yet at the time was
more stable than 2.1.3 so it was included.

- Now it has published the final version 2.2.1 that can be considered stable
(at least more than a snapshot svn)
+ Now it has published the final version 2.2.2 that can be considered stable
(at least more than a snapshot svn)

The main reasons (ARE NOT ALL. I continued looking for specific errors) why I
am requesting that the upgrade program are as follows:

  * High importance:
+
+ - Version 2.2.2 has fixes to defy routing attacks

  - The extended version of the Kademlia network, Kad2, wasn't complete
in the svn ubuntu has. That was Bad (tm), to the extent of damaging the
network, especially when dealing with firewalled users, but also when
indexing files 4GB. that's serious, from the network perspective. (from
  Kry, aMule dev)

  - Also the new network code reinforces the security of the network
about attacks to its nodes, and it's important not to have old clients
  around. (from Kry, aMule dev)

  - In the connection process amulegui exchanges some information with
the target, including some 'protocol version'. If the client and server
don't agree on this number the connection is rejected. The number
interchanged is different in the SVN version. In the function
  ExternalConn::Authenticate it states that

// For release versions, we don't want to allow connections from any
  arbitrary SVN client.

It seems that a SVN version gui cannot communicate with a 'release'
  version daemon. (LP: #206648)

  * Medium importance:

  - It solves many problems of stability of svn that caused unexpected falls.
  + Also (LP: #230015) (LP: #213586) (LP: #207178)

  * Low importance:

  - Copy ED2K link to clipboard works strange (LP: #244670)
  - aMule makes bad hashlinks (ed2k://) (LP: #94231)
  - amule have by default konqueror browser in ubuntu (LP: #209810)
  - Shared files priority don't get updated on amulegui
  - 100% of CPU used by amuleweb
  - broken log view
  - disable upnp in preferences if library loading fails

  Possible bugs to be solved:

  (LP: #234422)

  Old reasons (Not so Disabled):

* This release could be considered a bugfix release since most of the new
features of aMule 2.2.1 are already included in the latest svn. Indeed! Some
features are incomplete in the svn snapshot
* Version 2.2.1, to be an official launch, can be reported hypothetical
errors in the program. A snapshot is svn, from the standpoint of developers, a
lot of provisional code and that is no longer present at the launch stable.
* Ubuntu 8.04 is a LTS release so it will be in use at least 3 years for
desktops. I do not think it good maintain a snapshot svn for 3 years since svn
snapshot is not synonymous of stability.
* At least in the forum of aMule have been reported numerous problems with
the svn snapshot where developers can only advise compile a stable version or
an svn latest snapshot. The end user should avoid the process of compiling
whenever possible.

Some of these problems are in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/amule/+bug/230015/comments/3

And these are just one example (if I am put a full list would be too
large). Such is the problem with this svn snapshot that aMule devs are
  already tired of Ubuntu.

  http://forum.amule.org/index.php?topic=15259.0

  Discussion here: http://forum.amule.org/index.php?topic=15317.0

They blame the Ubuntu patches in wxGTK and crypto + + packages. But in
my opinion, Ubuntu users reports of bugs never stopped and was in this
svn when the devs are tired.

I do not say that 2.2.1 is a panacea but at least is a stable version.
I am using self since he left and it seems to be more stable than
  version repositories

my answer:
1-i have no patience,
2-sometime it is better to have a production system, to be able to see
bugs and let them fixed. bugs are fixed faster in development period.

[Bug 216159] Re: New Kernel problems

2008-08-27 Thread Bruce R
Hi Leann - Sorry for not adding a comment earlier, but my old Northwood
PC failed in the heatwave of a month ago and I am still configuring its
E4700 replacement, together with a 24 wide-screen replacement for the
PC's also ailing Viewsonic 20 display.

I had found that kernel 2.6.24-19-generic had fixed problems reported by this
bug report, especially when freshly installed using the LiveDVD rather than
the LiveCD for 8.04.1
As a member of the MicroMart forum, I can report a definite pattern of Updates
from earlier versions of Ubuntu to 8.04.1 or from early versions of 8.04 itself
having problems that have then been fixed by fresh installs solely based on the
2.6.24-19-generic kernel.

So, please close this Bug Report.

Looking forward to the 8.04.2 release, I hadn't been trying out
Intrepid releases but will now do so, but only after checking out other
outstanding bug reports for 8.04 and after making sure that I have an
up-to-date image of 8.04.1 that I can restore for everyday use.

[Bug 244670] Re: [hardy] Request of update of aMule to 2.2.2 final release

2008-08-27 Thread Fabio Pedretti
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: amule

  Hi all! :D

The current version of aMule in Ubuntu 8.04 is not a stable version
(2.2.0~svn20080218-0ubuntu4, it is a svn snapshot). Yet at the time was
more stable than 2.1.3 so it was included.

Now it has published the final version 2.2.2 that can be considered stable
(at least more than a snapshot svn)

The main reasons (ARE NOT ALL. I continued looking for specific errors) why I
am requesting that the upgrade program are as follows:

  * High importance:

  - Version 2.2.2 has fixes to defy routing attacks

  ExternalConn::Authenticate it states that

// For release versions, we don't want to allow connections from any
  arbitrary SVN client.

It seems that a SVN version gui cannot communicate with a 'release'
- version daemon. (LP: #206648)
+ version daemon. (bug #206648)

  * Medium importance:

  - It solves many problems of stability of svn that caused unexpected falls.
- + Also (LP: #230015) (LP: #213586) (LP: #207178)
+ + Also bug #230015, bug #213586, bug #207178
+ + in 2.2.2: bug #242220

  * Low importance:

- - Copy ED2K link to clipboard works strange (LP: #244670)
- - aMule makes bad hashlinks (ed2k://) (LP: #94231)
- - amule have by default konqueror browser in ubuntu (LP: #209810)
+ - Copy ED2K link to clipboard works strange (bug #244670)
+ - aMule makes bad hashlinks (ed2k://) (bug #94231)
+ - amule have by default konqueror browser in ubuntu (bug #209810)
  - Shared files priority don't get updated on amulegui
  - 100% of CPU used by amuleweb
  - broken log view
  - disable upnp in preferences if library loading fails

  Possible bugs to be solved:

- (LP: #234422)
+ (bug #234422)

[Bug 46853] Re: grub install fails on EFI Intel Macs

2008-08-27 Thread oss_test_launchpad
Installing Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 4 on a MacBook Pro rev. 3, you still have
to wait more than 30 seconds until GRUB starts booting. Does this issue
have something to do with this bug?
