Hi, I discovered that my problem was indeed different. While experimenting with various settings, I had accidentally left System setting as checked. When clearing that checkmark, my connection starts working. Why does this affect the connection? If I understood correctly, this means that by checking System setting, the connection should by made without user login. It seems that my Virtualbox folder share was removed on install. I downloaded Gsambad, then added the share that had gone missing, even though Nautilus showed it as a share. Gsambad also told me that it couldn't find smb.conf. After that I reinstalled nautilus-share. For the record, you need to set the use kerberos keytab and realm options of smb.conf. Duh. Steve: I see that the latest smbfs package in hardy-proposed does not have the backported cifs.spnego that you have in your PPA. What are your plan in the short/medium term? Sorry for the spamminess of my posting, but I discovered that the problem wasn't fixed. Apparently, the upgrade obliterated my old /etc/samba/smb.conf file. When I restored the smb.conf file from backup, my settings were back, including my Windows network as well as my shared printer. So this is a bug in the upgrade that overwrites the smb.conf file. [Bug 241361] [NEW] KDE apt GUI versions crashes, Can't install SWAT for Samba
You have been subscribed to a public bug:
Linux/Linux MCE (LMCE), not picking up network home network on a
netgear router to which linux box conected to by cable, tried to use
Samba but zconfig network browser not picking up machines on network,
not sure if I have or how to disable DHCP on the linux side. Trying to
install a network management package is a challenge. apt-get install
SWAT installs but bombs out on completing the install. Log to follow
with next post of problem. Package manager GUI of apt crashes
frequently.
Computer: basic 2.4Ghz with 256 Mb RAM
Running LMCE on kubuntu 7.04
I expected a complete install if SWAT which would allow me to direct the
LMCE box to the netgear home network and be able to see the other
computers (3 windows machines 1# Vista and 2*XP)

[Bug 271229] [NEW] electricsheep broken in intrepid with compiz
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: electricsheep electricsheep won't run for me in fullscreen mode as a screensaver in Ubuntu Intrepid with an ATI X800 All In Wonder video card with compiz enabled and running (using open driver). I run a widescreen Dell LCD monitor at 1680x1050. I don't know whether the bug is actually in electricsheep, compiz, or some Xorg related package. I can run it from a terminal prompt to have it come up in a window: electricsheep --root 0 and it's fine. The installed desktop file launches it like this: electricsheep --root 1 --zoom 1 With or without zoom, the --root 1 option kills it. If in gnome-screensaver I can preview the screensaver perfectly with no problems but when it trys to run it flashes to black and then immediately quits, putting you back on your desktop. Disabling compiz temporarily and switching back to metacity instead and electricsheep works perfectly fine. I read a bit and (with compiz enabled) tried turning the setting Unredirect fullscreen windows both on and off with no effect on electricsheep. I also downloaded mplayer and tried running electricsheep like this: electricsheep --mplayer 1 Interestingly enough, that works with the version of electricsheep currently in the repo somewhat... it blacks out the screen, but runs in 4:3 resolution in my widescreen monitor whereas running electricsheep normally without mplayer (and compiz disabled) fills the entire screen. I've ALSO tried the latest PPA 's from here: https://launchpad.net/~flam3/+archive Same effects... runs great without compiz or windowed but won't run as my screensaver... and this version from the PPA won't accept either the --zoom 1 or --mplayer 1 command line options. I'd appreciate any help.
