[Bug 268974] Re: MySQL Socket Sharing in OpenVZ

2008-10-01 Thread jyio
Ouch.

It looks like a kernel bug. Apparently, it's also present in the 2.6.26
development version, but not in 2.6.18 (in the stable Debian Etch
repos).

Hi Mathias,

I installed the slapd package with apt-get install slapd and did no
further modifications on the package. This was in a clean VM to test
package upgrades. It looks like this is the same bug as #276606.

If you still need the (unmodified) hardy slapd.conf, please let me know.

[Bug 192594] Re: unplug - plug again network cable

2008-10-01 Thread Thierry Carrez
As suggested on the upstream bug, likewise-open does come back from
unplugged-mode, after winbind cache time seconds (default is 900).
Setting this to a lower value will make it reconnect faster, though it
might not be needed, as using cache credentials is perfectly valid if
its not permanent.

Keeping this open as a wishlist item, since it would be nice to have a
winbind reconnect timeout that doesn't depend on the cache time so
that we can set it to a lower default value than 900 seconds.

[Bug 270899] Re: /etc/init.d/apache2 restart fails on busy webservers

2008-10-01 Thread Stefan Fritsch
Since 2.2.9-2, /etc/init.d/apache2 restart does a hard (non-graceful)
restart again, so this should already be fixed in Intrepid.

James, do you also experience hangs with the default action
/etc/init.d/apache2 reload during logrotate? If the problem is only
with restart, you could just get the init script from Intrepid.

As some sponsors have recently been telling me to not fix trivial
packaging issues originating from Debian in my uploads, here is a
minimal debdiff, only adding the patch and not fixing packaging issues
(Standards Version, watch file, or homepage field). Take your pick
sponsors...

[Bug 276591] Re: Running dolphin as root: folders view is blank exhibits bizarre behavior

2008-10-01 Thread 1cewolf
No, I don't.

However, this problem seems to have fixed itself. I'm not sure what
exactly was causing Dolphin to exhibit such strange behavior or why it's
no longer an issue, but I tried running it as root just now and the
Folders view functioned as it should.

[Bug 272832] Re: new design still not implemented

2008-10-01 Thread Eduardo Cereto
I think it's very confusing the fact that the art-team is not
responsible for the official theme.

Who is then?

We have plenty nice themes out there that would replace current human
theme. Dark themes are nice to have as alternate but sure not a good
idea to have as a main theme.

Why don't we run a contest to choose a new theme based on one of the
many available out there?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better.
I cannot reproduce this error.
Can you please try again with the most recent updates of intrepid, and report
back to me if the problem still occurs?
If you can reproduce it, please provide details on how to do so.

Re: [Bug 19033] Re: systemwide default startup homepage ignored

2008-10-01 Thread Jordan Erickson
What's interesting, IIRC, is that this bug doesn't exist in Debian.
Maybe someone can verify this and track it down that way?

Philippe Seewer wrote:

Philippe, it's great to have workarounds but let's not treat this as a
solution - the problem lies in that /etc/firefox-3.0/pref/firefox.js
(which has always been the default global config for Firefox, regardless
of Xulrunner) does not honor the browser.startup.homepage pref.

Jordan, I wholeheartedly agree. My workaround is not a solution, it's
just a workaround until we have a solution which will probably be around
 2011 or so.

Seriously, I've tried hunting down that bug a few times over the last
few years with no success. Any ideas are appreciated.

 Regards,
 Philippe

[Bug 276880] [NEW] When Akregator tray icon is clicked when Akregator is open, it does not minimize

2008-10-01 Thread 1cewolf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: akregator

I'm running Kubuntu Intrepid.

I believe that the tray icon for Akregator is incorrectly configured. In
other applications which have a tray icon, clicking the tray icon when
the application is open minimizes the application. When I do this for
Akregator, the window disappears for a split-second and then re-appears
again. I believe that this behavior may be the result of Akregator
trying to restore the window again rather than minimize it.

[Bug 270123] Re: Wrong battery status

2008-10-01 Thread Chris Coulson
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: acpi

  Hi there

I have a Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo u9200, and it seems nearly all acpi
stuff works: suspend, hibernate, events when closing the lid and gnome-
power manager knows when the laptop is running on battery, when it's
charging or when it is pluged in with missing battery or fully charged.

But there's one thing that bothers me: while gnome-power-manager 'seems'
to be working correctly, the battery applet doesn't. It always shows the
laptop being on running on ac power. In terminal, acpi -a -b shows the
  following:

  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ acpi -b -a
   Battery 1: charged, 41%
   AC Adapter 1: off-line

This happens with both ubuntu stock kernel and a .26 kernel. I suspect
it could be some BIOS stuff, but I'm not sure. I've read the DSDT and it
points to different places wether it's a linux OS, windows XP, windows
XP SP1, SP2 or Vista. I've tried to recompile it pointing linux to the
same place as all other options, but it still shows the same.

  Any ideas?

  [EDIT by Chris Coulson]

The battery status indicated in /proc/acpi and sysfs (and therefore HAL)
- is incorrect. With the AC adapter present, the battery status is
- 'charged' or 'charging', which is correct. Without the AC adapter, the
- battery status stays at 'charged', when it should be 'discharging'. The
- side effect of this is that the gnome-power-manager icon does not
- display when it should do, and the battery status icon (which uses data
- from /proc/acpi) always shows the laptop as running on AC power.

[Bug 274854] Re: spufs filesystem not mounted on boot

2008-10-01 Thread Dan Munckton
Ok I think I know what the problem is here:

domount() in /lib/init/mount-functions.sh checks in /proc/filesystems to
see if it can match the requested filesystem type if it doesn't find one
it reports Filesystem type '$1' is not supported. Skipping mount.

However because spufs is a module it won't have been loaded at this
point so it won't be listed in /proc/filesystems.

Running the actual mount command would cause the kernel itself to search
for and auto load the spufs module. Is domount being too careful?

I'll try to cook up a fix.

[Bug 276885] [NEW] (Kubuntu Intrepid) When Adept is run, two tray entries appear

2008-10-01 Thread 1cewolf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: adept

When I run the Adept package manager or installer, two tray entries for
it appear. They both have the application's name correctly. One has the
appropriate Adept icon and the other has the icon of a page with a
question mark.

The tray entry with the appropriate Adept icon appears to be non-
functional. After a delay of approximately 30-40 seconds, it disappears
and the other tray entry, which IS functional, remains.

I've attached a screen shot of this behavior.

[Bug 276884] [NEW] can't add printer in Turkish locale (rejecting attr has no value)

2008-10-01 Thread Kyle Nitzsche
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: system-config-printer

In system-config-printer.py, the new printer's rejecting attribute is
read, but has no value, so program crashes with python errors.

Attached patch fixes this by testing for attribute's existence with try,
and if exception, providing a value of False with catch clause.

[Bug 276887] [NEW] Input to TTYs goes to X after returning

2008-10-01 Thread Mike Rooney
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Binary package hint: xkeyboard-config

After using to a TTY and returning to X, some or all of the input
performed in the TTY gets sent to X.

Case 1:
1. Put your cursor over a non-maximized window.
2. Press Ctrl+Alt+F1 to go to TTY1.
3. Log-in.
4. Press Alt+F7 to return.

What happens:
1. At least in Compiz, the window is in Move mode, so mouse movement moves
the window. You must click to get out of this mode.
2. The help will be invoked of whatever application handled it, presumably
because you pressed F1 to use TTY1.

What should happen:
You should be return to X in the state you left it, and no input involved in
going to/from, or using the TTY, should later make it to X

Case 2:
1. Open a text editor.
2. Press Ctrl+Alt+F2 to go to TTY2
3. Type your username and press enter.
4. Press Alt+F7 to return.

What happens:
After clicking or otherwise exiting from move mode, the username is echoed in
the text editor.

What should happen:
See first case.
