[Bug 277103] Re: [intrepid] freeradius modules are missing

2008-10-03 Thread Christian Roessner
After a night of less sleep, I got the radius server running. If I may
speak honestly, I would suggest to create modules-available and modules-
enabled for modules derived from the old freeradius 1.x modules {}
section, i.e. ldap, pap, mschap, ...

The modules-section as about 1180 lines (including many comments), so to
not have the folder and some sample config snippets, users have exactly
to know, what they have to configure here.

A second point is the pidfile handling. The paths in radiusd.conf should
be:

run_dir = ${localstatedir}/run/freeradius
pidfile = ${run_dir}/freeradius.pid

otherwise freeradius won't start nor stop the service.

[Bug 162389] Re: ntp check is worse than useless

2008-10-03 Thread James Troup
I can't reproduce this on my desktop machine or on my nagios server.

I can; with up-to-date hardy:

# /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_ntp -H 127.0.0.1; echo $?
NTP OK: Offset unknown|
0
# ntpq -p
No association ID's returned
#

What version are you running (check_ntp -V)?

# /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_ntp -V
check_ntp v1861 (nagios-plugins 1.4.11)
#

(And what does ntpdate -ud 127.0.0.1 show when you run it? If you
don't have a running NTP server, it should say 127.0.0.1: Server
dropped: no data somewhere in its output.)

# ntpdate -ud 127.0.0.1
 3 Oct 17:17:56 ntpdate[28773]: ntpdate [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fri Mar 7 20:36:59
UTC 2008 (1)

[...]

3 Oct 17:17:56 ntpdate[28773]: no server suitable for synchronization found
#

Also, the newer versions of nagios-plugins (in Hardy or later) are
supposed to use check_ntp_peer (for seeing if an NTP server is up)
 and check_ntp_time (for seeing if the server's time is accurate);
 check_ntp is currently deprecated.

If it's deprecated and broken (which it is), surely it should be
removed?

[Bug 277704] [NEW] ssh fails with xmalloc: zero size

2008-10-03 Thread Jeff Hanson
Public bug reported:

The latest openssh client in Intrepid (1:5.1p1-1ubuntu2) fails to
connect to certain hosts such as HP ProCurve switches and dd-wrt
routers. Attempting to connect to one of these systems (and possible
other system types) results in the following error:

$ ssh [EMAIL PROTECTED]
xmalloc: zero size
$

This is a known bug that has been fixed upstream:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=497026

The fix is in 5.1p1-3 (see the above bug report.)

Would it be possible to get this update in for Intrepid? Currently the
only workaround is to downgrade to 4.7p1-8ubuntu1

[Bug 277416] [NEW] [intrepid beta] Firefox settings import DURING INSTALLATION did not work

2008-10-03 Thread weboide
Public bug reported:

I have Intrepid 8.10 beta.

During installation I chose to import my settings from Firefox (Ubuntu, Hardy
Heron, 8.04) and right after installation, booting into new system, the import
didn't work, Firefox doesn't have any bookmarks or passwords...
But firefox starts gracefully, just like brand new, though.
I atteched my profiles.ini in case it helps.

There has been an Ubuntu upload of libx11 2:1.1.5-1ubuntu1 in the

freeze exception, but you'll need to do a merge now rather than a sync.

[Bug 179797] Re: intel GM965 (X3100) no TV-Out (S-Video)

2008-10-03 Thread Visitor.Q
From the latest Intrepid liveCD, svideo does work, however, the image on
the television is in black/white. Standard mode is mirroring, I switched
to an extended desktop using the screen resolution tool. I then logged
in (as user ubuntu) again, and it hang when I switched the locations of
the screens (left to right and vice versa), so unfortunately no xorg
information here...

If I have time I'll install it and test it more rigorously.

[Bug 277419] [NEW] [intrepid beta] Jockey-gtk doesn't install drivers, it does nothing

2008-10-03 Thread weboide
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: jockey-gtk

After installation of intrepid 8.10 beta, I wanted to install hardware drivers.
I started the jockey gtk, using the system/administration menu, and clicking
hardware drivers.
I chose the nvidia 177 drivers, clicked activate, and entered my password, I
see a quick window with 0% for 1 second, then it just returned back to the
window with the drivers list. No update... at all.

[Bug 277426] [NEW] partitioner in 8.10 beta indicates using entire drive when using free space

2008-10-03 Thread gray
Public bug reported:

My drive has an

* XP partition,
* an ntfs backup partition
* and around 60 gigs as a test bed space available for test installations of
Ubuntu.

I downloaded the 8.10 beta iso and started the install.

The partitioner indicator at the top showed the partitions correctly - 3
sections, as I mention above

When deciding how to partition the drive I chose use free space. The
2nd partitioner indicator then showed the entire drive in the colour one
would assume is being used for Ubuntu - blue. The indicator makes me
think the entire drive is going to be wiped - especially as this
indication is the same as for use entire disk

This should be changed so that only the free space used is blue, and the
rest remains green as per the 1st partitioner indicator.

Thanks

[Bug 222421] Re: initrd not configured in menu.lst after upgrade from Ubuntu 7.10 to 8.04

2008-10-03 Thread Ante Karamatić
I can confirm this happend on 8.04-8.10Beta. I did upgrade with update-
manager. Initrd was generated, but grub didn't pick it up. It looks like
grub is configured before initrd was created:

2008-10-03 02:04:09 configure grub 0.97-29ubuntu36 0.97-29ubuntu36
...
2008-10-03 02:11:07 status triggers-pending initramfs-tools 0.92bubuntu13

...
2008-10-03 02:13:32 status installed initramfs-tools 0.92bubuntu13

An easy fix would be to run 'update-grub' on the end of upgrade :/

[Bug 277428] [NEW] netcat hangs when tries to process input of a shell script as UDP server

2008-10-03 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Public bug reported:

Package: netcat
Version: 1.10-33

Netcat hangs when it acts as UDP server and receives the input on a
shell script and tries to process it.

This is the simplest bash script to test it:

$ cat test.sh
#! /bin/bash
read v
echo $v

Using netcat:

Server: nc -u -l -p -e /home/user/test.sh

Client: printf %b something\n | nc -u localhost

Log: sudo /usr/sbin/tcpdump -s 0 -xX udp -i lo

As you can see, there is no response from server.

However, we get the expected result trying the same test with netcat6,
version 1.0-1.

Server: nc6 -u -l -p -e /home/user/test.sh

[Bug 277431] [NEW] [Intrepid] Distribution Upgrade gets stuck on libapache2-mod-php5

2008-10-03 Thread ANDREA
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

Hi
Yesterday/today I tried to upgrade to Intrepid using the distrubution-upgrader.
Well comparing to previous upgrades it worked very well up - up to the point
where libapache3-mod-php5 tried to install. For some reason it simply got
stuck, apparently it's because it tried to present a dialog that never showed
up. I then killed the background process associated with it and of course other
upgrades failed thereafter. I've run sudo dpkg --configure -a now so that
should fix it.

Another application - virtualbox - asked me right in the console if I
wanted to upgrade it. I think not everybody would check the console as a
lot of people - such as myself - walk away during the upgrade. A
possible improvement might be to skip certain upgrades that require user
attention until the very end ... and then ask them together (or make a
check beforehand) That way you can actually make an almost unattended
upgrade :-)

Ok here's the promised console output:

Setting up php5-common (5.2.6-2ubuntu3) ...
Installing new version of config file /etc/cron.d/php5 ...
Setting up libapache2-mod-php5 (5.2.6-2ubuntu3) ...
debconf: unable to initialize frontend: Kde
debconf: (--- No method to call for :)
debconf: falling back to frontend: Dialog
debconf: unable to initialize frontend: Dialog
debconf: (Dialog frontend will not work on a dumb terminal, an emacs shell
buffer, or without a controlling terminal.)
debconf: falling back to frontend: Readline
Modified configuration file
---

looking forward to your responses and as usual if there are any
questions don't hesitate to ask!

[Bug 152555] displayconfig-gtk is deprecated

2008-10-03 Thread Bryce Harrington
Thank you for reporting this bug and for your efforts to make
Ubuntu better. As Xorg has improved this past year, an unfortunate side
effect of these improvements is that it has rendered several design
assumptions in displayconfig-gtk obsolete. So, starting with Hardy we
are no longer putting displayconfig-gtk forth as a primary configuration
tool, and are putting our development focus into the Screen Resolution
applet. As a result, we do not plan to fix this bug and thus are closing
it.

[Bug 245583] displayconfig-gtk is deprecated

2008-10-03 Thread Bryce Harrington
Thank you for reporting this bug and for your efforts to make
Ubuntu better. As Xorg has improved this past year, an unfortunate side
effect of these improvements is that it has rendered several design
assumptions in displayconfig-gtk obsolete. So, starting with Hardy we
are no longer putting displayconfig-gtk forth as a primary configuration
tool, and are putting our development focus into the Screen Resolution
applet. As a result, we do not plan to fix this bug and thus are closing
it.
