[Bug 280390] Re: transmission doesn't minimize to the taskbar

2008-10-18 Thread Pablo Marchant
It seems very strange to mee, since no one ever answered this and it
seems pretty annoying. Transmission is the kind of programs you just
want to be on the tray without filling up your window selector, yet, for
some reason, this feature was removed and hasn't been fixed for a long
time now...I just wonder if they really removed the feature on purpose,
or they did something that killed it...

2008-10-18 Thread Richard Eames
@Kenan: That would be a different bug, not related to this one :)

 authentication_user =
 ignore_hosts = [localhost,127.0.0.0/8,*.local]

I should mention that I don't think I've had this problem on Intrepid, so it
could be some transition package that Intrepid didn't get.

Re: [Bug 266929] Re: metacity crashed with SIGSEGV in __libc_start_main()

2008-10-18 Thread tdflanders
Hi Thomas,

That is exactly the problem in fact. If you run dpkg-reconfigure debconf -p low
and select text mode and priority low, followed by dpkg-reconfigure -ap low you
will get configuration questions of the type: use: 1. unix authentication 2.
consolekit 3. likewise 4. ... The choices should be seperated by a space: 1 2 3
If you select everything and then change your /home folder: sudo chmod -cR 777
/home* ; sudo -cR chown -cR 1000 /home/* you will get faulty ~/.dmrc and
~/.dbus settings. Many users will do that because they cannot remove
installation files from their home folder through nautilus gui (to save space
for instance). If you start: $ sudo nautilus you can change the permissions,
but only one by one. I suspect that is the problem. Since your different
authentication methods conflict, you experience a wide variety of crashes. To
get a backtrace you should start valgrind 'previously crashed process' and then
gdb 21 | gdb-previously_crashed_process
and use gdb attach pid (check with pidof or ps -A). The problem is that most
crashes are fatal, requiring reboot and which application will crash is
unpredictable. I have not been able to backtrace this properly, I am currently
searching the proper debug symbols: 'apt-cache search packagename | grep
dbg'. Could you try this out on VirtualBox or VMWare or a dedicated testing
machine, or better yet a server with many partitions? It could work, I promise.

[Bug 285568] [NEW] [intrepid] deskjet ioerror on any output

2008-10-18 Thread Jeff Trull
Public bug reported:

Any output (including the test page) to my deskjet 932C via hplip
produces, first, an unending blinking orange light, and then, after
pressing page eject, the following errors on the page:

Error: /ioerror in --showpage--
Operand stack:
--nostringval-- 1 true
Execut (the rest is cut off)

This all works fine in Hardy. My version there is 2.8.2 and device
manager 11.0. Under Intrepid it's 2.8.7 and 14.0, respectively.

Although my printer is a 932C it has always been recognized and
successfully operated by hplip as a 930C, so I don't think that's likely
to be the problem.

[Bug 285563] [NEW] update manager unexpectedly terminated before completion of upgrade

2008-10-18 Thread PowerUser
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

Attempted to upgrade Kubuntu 8.04 x64 to 8.10.

Update manager worked, then complained about problem with Motion package
(separate bug filed). Then it continued.
However before cleanup phase it has repeated message about Motion package and
then unexpectedly terminated. It offered to send bug report - done.

Now, upgrade logs are attached. Looks like update has been mostly OK but

[Bug 285562] [NEW] xforcevesa doesn't work

2008-10-18 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Putting 'xforcevesa' on the livecd cmdline should force the driver as
vesa, but that doesn't work because of changes to the xserver-
xorg.postinst. DRIVERS_LIST is now empty on !sparc, so there are no
debconf choices to choose, and setting the key to vesa doesn't work.
This should be rather trivial to fix, but needs testing as always.

[Bug 285572] [NEW] X freezes right after login when using EXA on G45 machine

2008-10-18 Thread mnemo
Public bug reported:

So my machine with intel chipset G45 (motherboard is Gigabyte GA-EG45M-
DS2H) freezes right after boot when X.org runs in EXA mode. Upstream
have now provided a fix for this and the bug was in intel-agp.ko.
Further I have tried to apply this patch to the intrepid kernel and it
works, I can login without any hacks in xorg.conf, and I get direct
direct rendering etc.

The patch that made it work was:
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/anholt/drm-intel.git;a=blobdiff;f=drivers/char/agp/intel-agp.c;h=f1fe7490131468b40c5817e232442026d9f8ff0d;hp=016fdf0623a4ce7b5f849efc8ab099a2c5026497;hb=2052746fc8397130c120f0194a89938b0b62b6cb;hpb=b34c87315b1a2822111fc8ef744ef504f9be2f85

Even though is pretty late in the game I think this patch should be
considered for cherry picking into intrepid. Personally I will run the
git versions anyway but a lot of new users with modern intel machines
might not be able to do that.

Note:
1) This patch is very small
2) This patch is essentially says if card is Gx5 then do blah so it's lower
than usual risk

Hi,

There appears to be a problem with your installation of gconf. Could you please
attach /var/lib/gconf/defaults/%gconf-tree-tr.xml to the bvug report, and then
run sudo gconf-schemas --register /usr/share/gconf/schemas/*, and try
installing the package again.

Thanks,

[Bug 255851] Re: files copied onto a flash drive from CDROM appear empty, or unreadable

2008-10-18 Thread IanW
Does this problem happen every time your USB drive is plugged in?
Does it happen on other USB drives, or just the one?
If this problem occurs with just one (not all) USB drive, does the affected USB
drive have any other problems? What other systems (Vista, XP, OSX) does the USB
drive get used on?
Can you make the copy failure happen consistently?

[Bug 155157] Re: no video overlay on external monitor

2008-10-18 Thread Roy Kimbrell
Good news.

I ran a test of the current Ubuntu 8.10 beta (Intrepid Ibex) and the
results are highly promising.

the test machine was an IBM Thinkpad X60s w/2GB RAM. I downloaded the
current Ubuntu 8.10 beta (Intrepid) from
http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/intrepid/beta on Friday, 17 October and
burned a CD with the image. I also downloaded a test video
(F-18A_Active_Aeroelastic_Wing_flight_test.ogg) onto another machine,
because I needed an open source format for the test to preclude having
to load a bunch of codecs. I wanted to use just the default Intrepid
environment.

I booted the Thinkpad with the Intrepid image and copied the test video
(via sftp) from the other machine. I then connected an external monitor
to the Thinkpad and configured it with the default application (I think
it was Screen Resolution in Preferences). I took the default desktop,
which spanned both the laptop's screen and the external monitor. I
restarted X (logged out and back in). Finally I double clicked on the
video icon. It DID DISPLAY on the external monitor.Yeah!

I shut down the laptop and rebooted it's native OS: Ubuntu 7.10, Gutsy.
(I use Gutsy because of some other problems with 8.04, Hardy.) The
external monitor was still connected. In this configuration, it
mirrored the laptop's screen. (I checked the AdministrationScreen and
Graphics and verified that that's how it was configured.) I copied the
same test video to this machine and double-clicked on it. The video
displayed on the Thinkpad screen but DID NOT DISPLAY on the external
monitor.

So there you go. This is NOT a complete test of the display
functionality, but it is certainly encouraging.

Thanks to everyone for all their hard work.

Roy

 your one.

Can you better explain what do you mean?
In any case, before the last update, Firefox was functioning well in
Italian and all other languages, so I think the problem is not on a specific
locale, but in the language module itself.

2008-10-18 Thread Kenan
@Richard: Great, it seems I am collecting bugs:).

Do you have any proposal what I should do, is it going to be possible to
upgrade in 12 days and are those bugs vanished by then?

Should I update from cd or online, or this just does not matter?

It seems I need to start to learn more about linux:).

Thanks anyway.

Kenan

2008/10/18 Richard Eames [EMAIL PROTECTED]

@Kenan: That would be a different bug, not related to this one :)

Here's my output from the gconftool:
 $ gconftool -a /system/http_proxy
  use_http_proxy = true
  use_authentication = false
  host =
  authentication_user =
  ignore_hosts = [localhost,127.0.0.0/8,*.local]
  authentication_password =
  port = 8080

I should mention that I don't think I've had this problem on Intrepid, so
it could be some transition package that Intrepid didn't get.

[Bug 88377] Re: Suspend to disk fails: image_size too small

2008-10-18 Thread Eric Davis
Interesting. Hibernation was working for me until I added the latest
ati flgrx drivers, and then I started to see the same errors as the
original poster.

Removing the xorg-driver-fglrx 2.6.17-3 driver results in me once again
being able to hibernate on my Dell 1705 laptop.

uname -a :
Linux uberlaptop 2.6.27-7-generic #1 SMP Fri Oct 17 22:24:21 UTC 2008 i686
GNU/Linux

Looking at my image sizes pre and post driver , it looks like the output
of cat /sys/power/image_size stayed the same at 524288000

but cat /proc/swaps changed by default to
/dev/sda5 partition 2377580 0 -1

I did not copy the old default value, but it was higher by default
(similar again to the original poster)

[Bug 285578] [NEW] Totally scrambled screen in Intrepid with mplayer and xserver-xorg-video-nv

2008-10-18 Thread stek79
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nv

Hi,
in Intrepid I obtained a completely scrambled and messed up screen after
having viewed a video with mplayer! The only thing left to do was to kill X
with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace, since the computer becomes unusable.

I've found a way to reproduce that error.

1) Download this HD movie (I don't know if this particular video is the
problem, but at least with that it occurs):

http://anon.nasa-global.edgesuite.net/qt.nasa-
global/ksc/ksc_061108_glast_launch_720p.mov

2) Play it with mplayer.

3) Close the video window.

Please let me know if you need more info to fix this! I've found that
with other players (VLC, totem) this do not occur.

[Bug 161083] Re: db_type is set to MYSQL even when using zabbix-server-pgsql

2008-10-18 Thread James Westby
Hi,

This appears to have been fixed in Debian, and hence ended up in
Ubuntu. Is that correct?

Thanks,

James

[Bug 285581] [NEW] Suspend in Dell Latitude LS does not work anymore as worked with Hardy

2008-10-18 Thread Evgeniy
Public bug reported:

Suspend to RAM worked in Hardy out of the box.
It does not work in beta Interpid.

echo mem /sys/power/state - this works only one time. Awakening is
bad.

/etc/acpi/sleep.sh - suspends, but after awakening there is only black
screen and cursor.

hal-device |grep can_suspend - can_suspend = bool (false).

I set hal-set-property --udi '/or.' --key power_management.can_suspend
--bool true and restart X (and gpm).
Then gnome-power-management shows the option to suspend on lid close.

But when the lid is closed, notebook does not go to sleep, immediately
showing garbled password prompt.

So there is a total mess. It worked, now it does not. Sad!

[Bug 274421] Re: Cannot download fonts, Error parsing proxy URL http://:8080/

2008-10-18 Thread Richard Eames
For your ATI/Compiz bug I'd report a new one, or try to find someone else
that's already reported it.
I can say that Intrepid does have a lot of bug fixes from hardy, so yes, some
will magically disappear, some may remain, and those you need to report so that
the developers can fix them.

As for upgrading, personally I like to update via update-manager, but I
also order a CD so that I can reinstall at any time (Which tends to
happen a lot when you use the testing versions).

The best way to learn (linux) is to fiddle with things, break them, then
find out how to fix them. ;)
